A friend married a celebrity. He spent a bomb on the socialite wedding event. The wife is an alumni of the best primary school in the east, so the hubby thought of selling their $2000psf condo in town to switch to a $1000psf condo near the primary school (and double the floor space so that kids have their own room). Instead, the celebrity demanded that they upgrade to a larger unit in town because an address in town is more prestigous for her career. No point driving around in town because of ERP and close promixity to everything. The wife went on to demand my friend that he should buy a car to ferry their kids to school. Then i sent him this picture. ![]() Seriously, I think my friend should find himself a mistress. |

Yesterday, i went to a local hospital and ran into an old doctor who attended by relative for several years. A few years ago, she left the hospital and she went into private practices and some volunteer clinics in Asia. I salute her for her kindness. We had a short chat and she mentioned that she is back to coach a few juniors. She is a adjunct-professor by now. I told her that I believe that the govt hospital will treasure her more now, given her overseas experience and her professorship at a medical school. Surprisingly she denied, and told me that she left earlier because the hospital wants to get rid of local senior doctors like her. She said the HR hinted to her that for her pay, they can hire three Indian doctors or three junior medical officers. Wow, She really confided in me like an old friend who saw her progressing from an associate consultant (junior clincial specialist) till a professor now. Yes, i had came across Pakistani and Indian doctors  whom knows nuts about their job and I got to correct them during the medical consultation. Sorry for my sheer arrogance I just feel unjust for the professor, Imagine our local-born prof can tell me such things. How pathetic the situation is. When Dr Goh Keng Swee was around, the priority was jobs for Singaporeans. ![]() Singapore is no longer the place I used to know. Just be selfish, protect yourself and your loved ones. The rest you don' t care   |

It was raining a few days ago when I went to pick my child. " Why didn' t you bring an umbrella" , he said. I told him, " If you have never played or walked in the rain, you never really have a real childhood" ![]() Hahhaa, in my heart i also want to tell him, if you never skipped school, you will regret when you grow up (maybe another day) LOL

Many years ago when I was down in life and taking the MRT, deep in thought and feeling miserable, the sound of quite sobbing drifted to my ears.  I lifted up my head and saw a young girl crying in the opposite row of seats.  It was obvious she was also having problems of her own, but what amazed me was that she was still very willing to help a very old and fragile lady (I found out later that the old lady was born in 1912).  The old lady was lost and was looking to get to a clinic that was advertised in an old newspaper.  By the way, the crying girl was a Malaysian (I know from the way she talks).  One other person beside myself (both Singaporean) also chipped in to help.  The four of us alighted from the MRT as it was going in the wrong direction for the old lady.  I took stock of the situation and told the young girl (who was still visibly sad) and the young man that I can handle the situation and asked them to get along with their journey.  Another reason why I did that was to create opportunity for the young man to help console the eyes still red red girl.  So me and the old lady continued our journey to the clinic&hellip &hellip . I offered to take her in a Taxi, but she declined.  So boh bian, we took the MRT to Queenstown station together with her folded up wheel chair she used as a walking aid.  Outside the station, I again suggested that we take a taxi, but she insisted to take the shuttle.  It was a struggle to get the very old lady and her wheelchair up the small shuttle bus to Alexandra hospital.  Thankfully, the PRC driver was very nice and patient and we have help from a Filipino couple.  Along the way (walking up the hill) to the TCM clinic after alighting from the Shuttle bus, we also received help from a nurse whom I asked direction from.  We eventually arrived at the TCM clinic and got the old lady registered for treatment.  Unfortunately, I wasn&rsquo t able to stay till she was done with the treatment, so I passed S$50 to the old lady and insisted she took it and later to take a taxi back home (if I remembered correctly&hellip . Sembawang or some place north of Singapore).    The nurse (PRC) in the TCM clinic was most helpful to offered to get the cab for her later. I found out later that the Chinese looking old lady who speaks fluent Chinese was originally from Vietnam. That day was a good day, a happy day for me, being able to witness and experienced a lot of kindness and help from many people and people from different countries pitching in to help a fellow human being in need, regardless of race and nationality.   Awesome!   |

PS: By the way, don' t consider private hospitals if you have major heart problem or cancer. The best facilities and doctors for these problems are in our local hospitals, eg. National Heart Center, National Cancer centre. When you visit doctors in these govt facility, just tell them that you can afford more expensive medications and the same advanced treatment costs 80% less than private practice. Not all doctors love money. I know aust/filippino chiropractic practitioners in Singapore even offer sex for their old auntie customers to maximize her income. But we still have many good local doctors just want to do good for our society and opted to stay in govt hospital. They just want to stay focused on their research and impart skills to juniors and not get distracted by HR or rentals in private practise. With our world-class facility in NHC or NCC (most private hospitals has more primitive facilities), many advanced techniques and procedures are soley handled by the senior doctors and professors in these govt hospitals. Trust me on this. |

Retirement Planning Are you single? - read on, if you are. Visited a dying friend last night last than a year according to doctor or optimistically two. She is single, been working all her life, making 2-3k a months in recent years until she lost her ability to work. She has no dependent except the goodwill of her brother and niece. They took her in because her legs are rotting, body weight swelling because of water-retention, her kidney functions failing. Her room stinks because of her rotting swollen legs. I salute her niece for taking her in, because my friend has no mean of taking care of herself. However, the goodwill wiped off all my friend' s cash savings. Her brother and niece stayed in an old landed property. Despite having no income now, she enjoys very low subsidy for her medical bills and kidney dialysis. She pays 2-3 times more than someone from 2/3-rm HDB. Her niece' s hubby lost his job and she is a working mum. Her earnings goes into her kid' s childcare, immediate family expenses and hiring maid for her dad and aunt (my friend). The niece is technically broke. Judging a financial crisis ahead, the niece went to meet her MP (a full minister) with her father. My friend wept when she told me that her niece was sufficiently humiliated during the session. The minister asked,
Let' s take retirement planning a step further in Singapore - It is not just about saving sufficiently for your retirement, it is about MEANS TESTING - please refer to govt websites for more information. I learnt something cruel last night - No point saving that $10 or $50 dollars daily or weekly. You may have been thrifty for your whole life but because of the type of dwelling that houses you determine your social welfare, and wipes out the savings of your caregiver or yourself:

Bro, you are probably in your mid to late 30s, you can still make a come back. We crossed path on few topics and you showed your maturity as well as good knowledge, all you need is a 贵 人 and some opportunities. Having said that, when you have the $, you may not necessarily find the happiness, at least you still have a loving family now
Cheers, let's look forward for a better tomorrow |

A perpetual 4D ticket... ...Pay Once and bet until you win. If you don' t mind settling for 4D' s rate of returns, instead of Big Sweep, read on........ Background I was looking at properties and realized that I don&rsquo t have enough money and current rental yields is less than 3%pa or less than 1%pa if you include bank loan interest, maintenance and depreciation. In the midst of research, I found a substitute that requires a smaller quantum and offers the same benefits and regular income stream like property. PS: Of course buying a property is good for long-term capital appreciation, eg. 100% in 10-20 years. I am not telling you not to buy properties. But this substitute appears to be very suitable for your kids or seniors in your family to park their savings.                              City Development Preference Shares (Retail) CityDev NCCPS It was issued about 14 years ago. City Dev issued it to utilize some tax-credits. THERE IS NO REDEMPTION DATE for this Preference Share, not even a call-date (to redeem). This preference share will might never be redeemed. Then what&rsquo s the catch?                                              Benefits For every share, it gives 3.9 cents annually:
This is easier than buying a property.                                              Frequently Asked Questions 1: What if City Development redeems their preference shares at current level?   Congrats, it is a windfall.        2. What if City Development redeems their preference shares when their ordinary shares crashed?   If City Development&rsquo s ordinary shares crashed to $3.50 or below during a recession, I think a lot of blue-chips will be priced at a small-fraction of today&rsquo s value. The money from redemption payment can be used to buy other blue-chips eg. Banks, cheaply.                                              3: What if City Development don&rsquo t redeem their preference shares? - It is still a good 3.5% tax-free income (comparable with rental incomes). - In 2007, the company hinted about the redemption and the preference share shot up to $2. - In 2012, the company hinted about redemption and the preference share shot up to almost $1.20. - There are always chances to sell for a decent profit even without redemption. - The historical low is $0.80 (for only a few days). 80% of the time, this share trades at appx $1.10 level and 10-15% of the time, it trades higher than that. (Offering a profitable exit before redemption)                                              Pros: - Tax-free regular income and hassle-free with potential capital gains when redeemed - Investment grade company like our local banks, safer than Capitaland - Better than insurance. Bonus payouts for insurance happens only with our death, and we don&rsquo t need to bet our lives to enjoy a bonus payout. - This is the only financial instrument of such nature in Singapore from a reputable issuer. Most people or estates, just buy and keep with their spare cash. Cons: - City Development might never redeem it (forever) - City Development might default on the coupon (non-cumulative) but the cost of paying the interests annually is less than $13mio (chicken-feet) for City Dev. If they don&rsquo t pay preference shares dividend, all dividends for ordinary shares will automatically cease for that year. - There are only small quantity available for sale daily (good sign), you have to accumulate this counter slowly. - If you need the money urgently (to cash out), you might lose a bit of capital (or make a tiny bit).                                              DISCLAIMER: Lose money don' t blame me. I am not financially trained, broke and don' t even have a bachelor' s degree.  LOL I intend to cheat my Mother-in-law money into this counter and park my kids' s savings there Give your kids this perpetual 4D ticket. |

lose money in stocks but you have many good things in life. don' t daydream or think about the things you could have but don' t, appreciate the things you do have and love! i believe stock market most people is lose one because their temperament and mentality is not right. i believe if you already happy with what you have, its much easier to play stocks because you won' t make decisions based on what the money can bring *greed) or take away from you(fear), but only on the logical reasons why the share price will move or fall. even many successful traders also end up giving it all away in the end because of attachment to stocks and money. | ||
