Thermal cameras may be used to check students' temperatures in Callaway County

CALLAWAY COUNTY &mdash   Callaway County school districts could soon be equipped with software to take multiple students' temperatures at once.

Officials in Callaway County are looking into distributing some of the CARES Act funding they were awarded, to help school districts purchase  thermal cameras.
 

Dr. Ty Crain, Fulton Public Schools Superintendent, said the thermal cameras claim to scan thirty faces at once.  

He said this could make temperature screenings of students a faster process.

" Not necessarily be in a single file line," Crain said.

He said from there, a notification is sent to alert that there is someone with a potential temperature.

" It' ll actually be able to record the face of who that individual was and at that point, we can actually check it with an FDA approved thermometer," Crain said.

The cameras possibly being set up in all school districts in Callaway County.

" The hope would be that, our plan would be, to have these in place before we start school at the end of August," Crain said.

He said although they will never be able to stop the COVID-19 risk completely, it' s an extra layer of protection.
