As long ThaiBev does not reduce its massive debt, it will always be a concern for many investors.  Time for Sustainability in Financial Management.  Since 2021 for them to list its beer businesses and par down its debt. They must have some arrangements with banks for loans.  We must raise this up with management again about Prudent Financial management of company.  No or little debt. Got big cash pile and Generate good Cash flow from Operations.    |

Chanced upon this good documentary by CNA out 2 days ago which highlighted the deepening debt situation in Thailand, particularly among the middle class. It was quite surprising (at least to me) that 2/3 of the nation debt came from consumption and credit cards. The country would very much need more foreign tourists to visit and drive the economic recovery for the broader industry players to capture growth. Sharing in case of interest. https://youtu.be/_hpCpEm6PeE?si=U0wb3SxiQfcGhKbs |

If this is truly undervalued, then maybe a portion will be allocated here and keep for long term/collect dividends. See Whether will it spook shortists and close theirs short positions?

Shorting & Borrowing should totally be Banned to revive the market valuation.    Those who want to short have to use other options like CFD.

Shorting should only apply to the big 3 in SG stocks. There are the only ones that actually move the needle in SGX. | ||||

"Key Highlights of the Revisions
(1) Short Selling Regulations The eligibility criteria for short-sellable securities have been revised. Short selling will now be allowed only for securities listed in the SET100 index, whereas previously, it was permitted for SET100 and certain large, highly liquid non-SET100 stocks. (Previously, eligible non-SET100 stocks needed to have an average 3-month market capitalization of at least THB 7.5 billion, a 12-month average monthly turnover of at least 2%, and a free float of at least 20% of paid-up capital.) The Uptick Rule will apply only when necessary. Under normal circumstances, short selling will follow the Zero-Plus Tick Rule. However, if a security?s price declines by a specified percentage (e.g., ≥ X% from the previous day?s closing price), short selling of that security will be subject to the Uptick Rule on the following trading day. (2) High-Frequency Trading (HFT) Regulations Registered High-Frequency Trading (HFT) investors will only be allowed to trade securities within the SET100 index. This restriction does not apply to market makers and certain types of securities. (3) Relaxation of Measures Introduced in 2024 The Minimum Resting Time requirement, which mandated a minimum duration before an order could be canceled, will be removed. The implementation of Phase 2 of the Dynamic Price Band, which sets individual stock price fluctuation limits, will be postponed. To ensure policy consistency and market confidence, the SET will maintain both the existing and newly revised measures in place continuously. A further review of these measures is scheduled for 2026." https://www.kaohooninternational.com/markets/552806#:~:text=Key%20Highlights%20of,scheduled%20for%202026.

https://www.kaohooninternational.com/markets/552806 SG should scrutinize all the short selling too. Make shorters come out using the same resources as investors dollar for dollar instead of x5 ultra short kind of trade. |

Thailand to curb short selling, high-speed trades amid selloff
By  Anuchit Nguyen  /  Bloomberg
19 Feb 2025, 07:46 pm
![]() Stock Exchange of Thailand president Asadej Kongsiri: We hope that the stricter rules will lessen any excessive swings in the share prices. (Feb 19): Thailand&rsquo s stock exchange will tighten curbs on short selling and high-frequency trading as it attempts to revive investor confidence in the world&rsquo s worst performing equity market. Short selling and high-frequency trading will be limited to stocks forming the part of SET100 Index, Asadej Kongsiri, president of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, told a press briefing Wednesday. The course currently allows short selling of stocks in SET100 Index and other securities with some conditions, while there are currently no limits set on high-speed trades, according to Asadej. The crackdown on trades popular with hedge funds and day-traders is the latest attempt by Thai regulators to restore confidence in a market that&rsquo s seen foreign investors pull about US$10 billion (RM44.42 billion) in the past two years. The benchmark SET stock index has slid about 10% this year, making it the biggest loser among the world&rsquo s major indexes, as listed companies report poor earnings amid sluggish economic outlook.
&ldquo We hope that the stricter rules will lessen any excessive swings in the share prices,&rdquo Asadej said. &ldquo This will stabilise the market and revive investor confidence.&rdquo The exchange last year ordered high-frequency traders to register before they can place orders in a bid to stabilise the market that was battered by concerns over the impact of illegal short selling, program trading and corporate scandals. Authorities have also fast-tracked probes into fraud allegations at companies including Energy Absolute Pcl and Stark Corp. The bourse will hold public hearing before seeking the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission and implementing the new rules. The tighter curbs are expected to be implemented in the second quarter, according to Asadej. Short-selling transactions on the Thai stock market were valued at about 240 billion baht (US$7.1 billion or RM31.63 billion) since Aug 19, when the stock exchange began publicly publishing the information, according to its website. That accounted for about 4% of total trading turnover.
