GHY has rights for Jay Chou concerts in China....his Manager and Mother are substantial shareholders in GHY as wellhttps://www.straitstimes.com/life/entertainment/fancy-a-pair-of-tickets-to-watch-jay-chou-in-china-that-ll-be-27000Fancy a pair of tickets to watch Jay Chou in China? That&rsquo ll be $27,000  Tickets to watch Jay Chou&rsquo s two-hour performance are priced at 500 to 2,000 yuan.  A pair of tickets for adjacent seats at Mandopop singer Jay Chou&rsquo s concert in Tianjin are reportedly being sold by scalpers for 150,000 yuan (S$27,400). The concert, which takes place in the northern Chinese city over four days from Sept 7 to 10, was met with an overwhelming response with almost 130,000 tickets sold within the first 30 seconds when ticket sales opened on Tuesday, according to Chinese news outlet Global Times. Tickets to watch Chou&rsquo s two-hour performance are priced at 500 to 2,000 yuan on China&rsquo s leading online ticketing platform Damai, and will also be sold on rival ticketing platform Maoyan on Friday. Another scalper has advertised an asking price of 19,800 yuan for a ticket in the first-three rows of the VIP section. A check on Damai&rsquo s ticket sale portal lists the same ticket at 2,000 yuan. Fans of the Taiwan-born singer-songwriter, dubbed the King of Mandopop, are not the first to experience inflated prices and scalpers taking advantage of the overwhelming demand. Tickets for Malaysian singer Fish Leong, Taiwanese band Mayday and Singaporean singer JJ Lin have been sold for exorbitantly high prices by scalpers.  Chinese netizens, in response, have called for more action to be taken by ticketing platforms such as tagging tickets to the buyers&rsquo names.  Global Times reported that a similar situation in May when nearly 300,000 tickets for a six-day concert by Mayday were sold out in seconds. Fans at the time alleged that concert organisers had colluded with scalpers, but the organisers said the ticket buying process was open and transparent. According to China Association of Performing Arts, box office revenue from performances reached nearly 16.8 billion yuan in the first half of 2023, a near seven-fold increase over the same period in 2022 |

This paper argues that live performance is resilient to economic change, and can even enliven the economy during downtimes. With the surge in demand for Taylor Swift and Coldplay tickets in recent times despite trying economic news, I believe that Singaporean support for our favourite Chinese acts will not waver. https://www.mdpi.com/2071-1050/15/4/3611

Jay Chou mentions mixing different languages into his songs. Maybe this could mean more collaborations with artistes from other genres and countries. Could this be an expansion opportunity for GHY too?   https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/entertainment/article/3220140/jay-chou-king-mandopop-talks-about-music-his-love-fine-art-his-world-tour-and-why-hes-not-worried

Totally agree, they do have to find more big acts. But on the flipside, I think it' s important to note that the business is in China where AI is booming. GHY will probably be able to cut down on expenses a little more with AI help tools like these while they focus on finding those big names.  https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/02/companies-can-hire-a-virtual-person-for-about-14k-a-year-in-china.html

https://www.asiaone.com/entertainment/jay-chou-concert-tickets-so-valuable-man-was-allegedly-robbed-his-hong-kong Jay Chou concert tickets so valuable that a man was allegedly robbed of his in Hong Kong MAY 12, 2023 How far would you go to get concert tickets for your favourite singer? It appears that even theft is not out of the question for some, as a man going for a Jay Chou concert in Hong Kong found out yesterday (May 11). According to Hong Kong media HK01, local police allegedly received a report from the man at around 9pm about his two tickets being stolen on Tin Wah Road, while he was headed to catch Jay Chou at the Central Harbourfront Event Space in Hong Kong Central. After preliminary investigations, the case was classified as a robbery, but no arrests have been made thus far. The 44-year-old King of Mandopop is in the midst of seven shows in Hong Kong on his Carnival World Tour, with last night' s concert marking the fifth night. Tickets go from HK$580 (S$99) to HK$1,380. HK01 added there were also close to 10,000 fans loitering outside the concert venue to listen to Jay. Baohui Entertainment, the concert organiser, told Hong Kong media that they were unaware of the ticket theft until the police report was made, and believed the authorities would deal with it appropriately. They also reminded ticket holders to take a photo of their valid ticket to record their seat number, and ask contact organisers for assistance should they lose their tickets. If they did not have proof of the ticket, they added, organisers could not help them in case of ticket loss. They urged the public not to engage with scalpers trying to sell passers-by tickets, as it was impossible to know whether the tickets are valid. They also warned ticket holders of people trying to purchase tickets outside the concert venue, lest they be deceived or robbed. While literal theft of tickets is uncommon, scalping is not. |
