Soccer fans hoping to see Ronaldo in Shenzhen friendlies   https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202401/1305872.shtml Chinese soccer fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation about whether world soccer megastar Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing in friendly matches this week in Shenzhen, with his club Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia set to face two Chinese Super League (CSL) clubs.  Amid a massive crowd at Shenzhen Baoan International Airport, Al Nassr arrived in China on Sunday to begin the preparations for the two matches at the Shenzhen Universiade Stadium.  Their first match is on January 24 against CSL giants Shanghai Shenhua, and on January 28 against Zhejiang FC, third-placed finishers in the CSL last season. Initial reports suggested that Ronaldo has a muscle injury which has sidelined him from competing. But Deng Hongfei , the vice chief of the friendlies' main organizer G.H.Y Culture & Media, told the local media on Sunday that Ronaldo will feature in both matches.  However, rumors also emerged on Chinese social media on Monday that the five-time Ballon d' Or winner will be out of competition for three weeks. The organizing committee told the Global Times on Monday that there is currently no further news on Ronaldo' s condition.  The Portuguese star' s fitness is legendary in the sport, making him one of soccer' s outstanding athletes. Al Nassr' s friendlies are part of their preparations for a title bid in their domestic league. Their visit to China also comes at a time when China and Saudi Arabia are strengthening people-to-people exchanges. Following their arrival at the team' s residence, Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Shenzhen, the players engaged in a recovery training session under the supervision of Al Nassr coach Luis Castro, according to the club.  Bracing against the unusually cold winds in the Southern Chinese city in Guangdong Province, whose winter season is normally mild, Chinese fans waited outside the hotel, waving Al Nassr flags, chanting " Al Nassr" and " Ronaldo" in Chinese to show their support, and hoping to get signatures from Ronaldo and his teammates. The Al Nassr players were also given a welcoming banquet on Monday night.  Both Al Nassr and Shenhua will have a training session on Tuesday, the organizing committee said.  The visit marks Ronaldo' s eighth trip to China. His last visit was in 2019 when he was representing Serie A giants Juventus in a pre-season friendly with Inter Milan. |

Tickets for Ronaldo' s ' China Tour' sell out in hoursChinese football fans raced on Wednesday to snap up tickets to see Cristiano Ronaldo play a rare match in their home country, with multiple online platforms selling out within a few hours. Ronaldo is immensely popular in football-mad China, where many supporters have grown weary of dismal national team performances and the corruption-ridden domestic game.  The Portuguese star' s current club, Saudi Arabia' s Al-Nassr, last month announced a " China Tour" featuring friendlies against Shanghai Shenhua and Zhejiang FC in the southern city of Shenzhen on January 24 and 28 respectively. Fans frantically vied with each other as the coveted tickets went on sale online a little after 11:00 am (0300 GMT) on Wednesday, with multiple platforms showing no available tickets by the evening. Several media outlets reported that seats in all but the two most expensive categories had sold out " within seconds" . Amid a sea of disappointment on social media, some lucky buyers voiced unbridled joy. " On January 24, I will be the happiest girl in the whole world," wrote one satisfied customer on Weibo. " Whatever you think of Ronaldo, you can' t deny his greatness as a player," said another. " Today his China tickets came on sale, and I actually got one!" https://sports.inquirer.net/546280/cristiano-ronaldo-china-tour-tickets-sell-out-in-hours |

This caught my eye " The Riyadh Season Cup, a three-team round-robin tournament, is part of the team' s first international tour, which will also include stops in El Salvador and Hong Kong." GHY is working on the China exhibition matches right...seems like another money spinner for them |

Lionel Messi' s Inter Miami will play two matches in Saudi Arabia early next year including one against familiar foe Cristiano Ronaldo and his club Al-Nassr, the Major League Football team said on Monday (Dec 11). The Riyadh Season Cup, a three-team round-robin tournament, is part of the team' s first international tour, which will also include stops in El Salvador and Hong Kong. Miami are set to take on Al-Hilal at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on Jan  29 before facing Al-Nassr at the same venue on Feb  1.
" This is another major opportunity to create lasting relationships with passionate fans," Inter Miami chief business officer Xavier Asensi said in a press release. " We are excited to connect with new supporters in Saudi Arabia, and also hope people all over the world will be tuning in to see a pair of dream matches like these." Messi and Ronaldo, who have faced each other more than 30 times in their careers, have won 13 Ballon d' Or awards between them, with the Argentine leading that race eight to five. Messi received an offer to play in the Saudi league after leaving Paris St Germain but opted to sign with Miami, where he led the team to a trophy in the Leagues Cup and sent ticket prices skyrocketing.   |

Fans can now fancy chances of watching Ronaldo on Chinese turf as star joins Al Nassr Asian football has never taken center stage like this before.  Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, which was previously little known outside the country, are making headlines in world media. The team gained more than 2.5 million new followers on Instagram in less than 24 hours after announcing the signing of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. And the Riyadh-based club now has over 7.5 million followers, a nearly 10-time increase from the original number just three days ago. After agreeing to a 2.5-year contract reportedly worth more than 200 million euros ($210 million), the five-time Ballon d' Or winner became the highest-paid athlete on the planet. Although he is in the twilight of his glittering career, Ronaldo is by far the biggest star to play club football in Asia, and is sure to usher in a new era for Asian football.  The club called the deal " more than history in the making" and hopes the star can " inspire our league, our nation and future generations."   As the most popular person on social media platform Instagram with a record 520 million followers, or more than 6 percent of the whole world' s population, Ronaldo will surely bring a huge audience to Al Nassr and the Saudi Pro League. Even the AFC Champions League (ACL), the continental competition played by top clubs from Asia, will hopefully get more attention in and outside the continent.  " Finally! He is Here! Welcome to Asian football, Cristiano Ronaldo!" the ACL tweeted after Al Nassr announced the signing of Ronaldo.  And far from Saudi Arabia, on the far east side of Asia, even Chinese fans couldn' t hide their excitement about Ronaldo joining an Asia club. Many are already expecting that one Chinese Super League team will get the chance to play against Al Nassr in the ACL next season.  " So we can go to watch Ronaldo on Chinese turf" when the star and his team come to play the away fixture, excited fans wrote on social media. Some even started to look for streaming links to the Saudi league games, which was hard to imagine in the past.  Despite all the attention and influence Ronaldo brings, Asian football still has a long way to go before reaching the same height as Europe and South America.  After handing eventual winners Argentina a shocking defeat in the Qatar World Cup group stage, Saudi Arabia finished bottom of their group in the end. And Qatar became the worst-performing hosting nation in World Cup history after losing all their three group games. All the three AFC teams making it to the last 16 - Japan, South Korea and Australia - bowed out in the first round of knockouts.  And on the club level, no Asian team has won the FIFA Club World Cup in its more than 20-year history.  It' s a mission impossible to expect Ronaldo, who turns 38 in early February, to change the scenario single-handedly for Asian football. However, with his stardom and influence, there' s no doubt that more and more kids will fall in love with the sport, hopefully taking it to a new level in the future. |

GHY enters into agreement for Jay Chou concert one day added to Bangkok tour

GHY Culture & Media has entered into a new agreement with Sure Legend International for the right to hold Jay Chou&rsquo s Bangkok concert for two days, Dec 8 and 9, at the Rajamangala National Stadium.

This came after the concert organiser announced on Oct 2 that it would hold the singer&rsquo s Carnival World Tour in Bangkok for one day on Dec 9 &ndash part of the group&rsquo s strategy to ride on the revival momentum of the concert industry.

Jay Chou&rsquo s manager Yang Jun Rong, as a non-executive director, owns a 45 per cent stake in Sure Legend International.

GHY Culture & Media said in an update to shareholders on Friday (Nov 17) that the extended Jay Chou&rsquo s Bangkok concerts are not expected to have any material impact on the earnings per share or net tangible assets per share of the company for the current financial year. It will make further announcements if there are material business updates.

On Oct 30, the group said that it had agreed with Sure Legend to discontinue a master concert agreement which both parties entered in November 2018, as certain terms and conditions of the agreement were no longer applicable in the &ldquo evolved industry landscape&rdquo .

Sure Legend had confirmed at the time that it would grant GHY the production rights of Jay Chou&rsquo s Carnival World Tour Concerts in Bangkok this year and in Yokohama, Sydney and Melbourne in 2024, with a new concert agreement &ldquo to be deliberated and entered into in due course&rdquo .

This month, GHY announced it would pay a US$10 million collaboration fee to Al Nassr Club to co-host a football tournament in China next January, where football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to play.
