Wonder if this is an attempt by the REIT Manager not to pay out dividends just before 1H 2023 results and dividend announcement. If so, they should deploy the retained dividends for good purpose and pay down the debt. The one thing I have some comfort in is that the REIT Manager is controlled by Manulife Group (?) and if so, they have too much to risk in SG than to play any funny stuff like EHT. |

1) I think since they breached the " financial covenant" , MUST cannot pay shareholders dividend. 2) " If the distributions cannot be declared, this would have an impact on the structure of Manulife US REIT and would result in additional taxes being required to be paid."   That implies no dividend and also need to pay US tax expense. 3) A possible option will be to increase equity, but shareholders might not pump in more money.  I think the sponser cannot pump in more money to own higher percentage of MUST as it will incur additional taxes for the sponser. Looks like this US MUST REIT tax structure has a lot of constraints.  S-REIT seemed more straight forward for the sponser to step in and help the REIT.
