How much can you make from the stock market?

We all have high expectations about our returns. A more realistic one is to benchmark it agains the index return of the market we are investing in. The chart below is taken from my article " Baby Steps into the Investment Universe: Beginners: Part 1 of 3" It shows the index returns for the top 10 stock exchanges around the world. You can see that even if you have a 20 years investing horizon, you can lose money in some stock market. The problem is unless you have a crystal ball telling you which market will do well in the next 10 to 20 years, it may be better to diversify globally.  |
