Correction on both our posts. It' s 5.125%, not 5.25%.

pinkowl      ( Date: 09-Feb-2017 13:40) Posted:

Are you prepared to receive 5.25% every year till 2022?

Are you prepared to have your money there even after 2022 (should the company decide not to redeem), and continue to receive 6.125%?

If yes, then go ahead.

If you decide that you may not want to have your money stuck there for that long a period and want to redeem earlier, the risk is that bond prices may drop with interest rate hike.

It' s your choice. Hope this helps.

This bond seems to have a very clear price movement. Can anyone share why this is the case?

Just make life simpler, 10000 shares of S$1.

If it rises to 1.05, it will be $500 profit.

500/10000 = 5%.

the share pays $0.05125 per year in perpetuity for every $1 shareholding (ignoring semi-annual compounding to make it simple.)   the yield from similar securities like hyflux preference shares is around 5.11% pa.   so the price of genting is $0.05125/0.0511 =   $1.003.

if the price hits $1.004, the market is expecting a yield of $0.05125/$1.004 = 5.1%

wrong claculation ... wanted to state 1.0025 :-)    So, it would be 1.002 ~~ 1.003.

My estimation is based on its yield 5.125%.  As  the  issuer  paying coupon in every six months, 5.125% / 2 is about 2.5%.

Make sense ?
