Good on you gold finger. I suspected you may have hidden gold somewhere.

Old coins and jewellery are well worth their weight in gold.

Pity, I sold off. The goldsmiths are making now.

But there is electronic gold these days. Ask OCBC. They have an app that allows you to store ' gold'

Trade gold with OCBC

I actually hold quite some gold - a lot of very old goin collector coins stored in vaults.  Will sell those off one day.

U want dividends for a change, goldfinger, try this.
Buy 100kg of gold. Sell one 1kg a year as a dividend payout. After 100 years, you, your children and your children's children will have reaped millions.

Gold will outlast ocbc or any asset class. It has in the past and will forever and ever.

Why?

Because in heaven, the Street is made of gold!

Trade in gold but limit to 10% of portfolio

Amazing that gold appears in ocbc thread.
Agree to all that is being said here.

Question is would you buy 1000 shares of ocbc or 150g of gold today assuming you had 14,000 singapore dollars?

Or mix it, say 500 ocbc shares plus 75g of gold for 14 K SGD?

Trade with optimization but limits

The idea that gold and the stock market often exhibit an inverse relationship is a commonly observed phenomenon in financial markets. Here' s a breakdown of why this tends to be the case:
  1. Safe Haven Status: Gold has historically been considered a safe haven asset, meaning that investors flock to it during times of economic uncertainty or crisis. This is because gold is perceived as a store of value and a hedge against inflation and currency depreciation. When stock markets fall and fear rises among investors, they often turn to gold as a way to preserve wealth and mitigate risk.
  2. Inverse Correlation: The relationship between gold and stocks isn' t always perfectly inverse, but there is often a negative correlation between the two. This means that when stock prices decline, the price of gold tends to rise, and vice versa. This inverse correlation can be attributed to changes in investor sentiment and risk appetite.
  3. Diversification: Many investors hold both stocks and gold in their portfolios as a form of diversification. Gold' s performance often differs from that of stocks, providing a buffer against stock market volatility. Diversification can help reduce overall portfolio risk and increase stability, especially during turbulent market conditions.
  4. Market Dynamics: Economic distress and crisis tend to drive up demand for gold, leading to an increase in its price. Conversely, during periods of economic growth and stability, investors may favor riskier assets like stocks, leading to a decrease in demand for gold and a decline in its price.
Overall, the inverse relationship between gold and the stock market reflects the different roles they play in investors' portfolios and their responses to changes in economic conditions and market sentiment.

It appears that OCBC is paying end of the year dividends for 2023. However, I tried in vain to find the amount (dividend) but failed. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you
