One major criticism at SGX is that it always tends to favor the big boys. Those boys with the heavy machinery, manpower, technoligical prowess, and they pay negligible commission, whereas the retails, human trader get the short end of the sticks, and grossly disadvantaged.
ie, SGX wants us to BECOME LUNCH for the big boys. Do we like it?
During lunch, people also can discuss things that cannot talk on the phone. Best is market stays closed, so no need to jaga the share price.

Let me explain SLOWLY to you, so that even the folks at SGX will understand when they read this.
If you have an open trading position and the market stays open while you are out for lunch, while the algo trading continue humming as they dont need lunch, what happens? How are you going to react? You bring a laptop and stare at the screen while you eat? Or ask your brokers to watch for you, and set trading rules for all your open positions? Lots of time, one may not be able to set all the protective stops. A broker also cant react fast enough too as the broker needs to call you to execute trades when unexpected situations arise. Take for example, Noble last Friday. The meltdown happened in split seconds. If it happend during lunch, do you think you can react fast enough? Whereas if you are watching, you can decide faster as it is your own money, own positions.
By leaving the market open (continuous all day trading), humans are at a disadvantage, as humans need to eat and rest, but machines dont.

Market need the 90min break la... traders need break
There was a time when they even thought of running 24 hours.
Sounds too much like a casino.
You are not getting it. Lunch break means SGX stock trading shuts down during lunch time. No more continuous all day trading. Everyone goes for break, whether you trade online or not.

I would suggest a shorter break
aren' t most ppl trade online now?
Been investing 20 years and I really like the past where they had their lunch breaks. Market reopens at 2pm and the numbers changes fast than present. Non excitment for us.
