ComfortDelGro back in black with S$21.7m net profit in Q3, thanks to government relief
ComfortDelGro is back in the black with a net profit of $21.7 million for the third quarter that ended on Sept 30, a turnaround from the net loss of $6 million in the first half of the year.

But without government relief in the various countries in which it operates, such as Britain and China, the transport operator would have made an operating loss of $0.2 million for the quarter.

Revenue for the third quarter rose 22.9 per cent compared with the preceding three months. But it recognised an impairment provision of $17.5 million in the third quarter for the British businesses.

In an update filed on the Singapore Exchange on Thursday after market close, the group said that, excluding government relief and impairment, it would still have achieved a profit after tax and minority interest of S$6.7 million.

| We are talking about CDG as a Group making $21.7 of profit in a quarter while many local companies and individuals are struggling to stay afloat in this pandemic. As tax-payers, we need to know how much of the relief fund was booked as profits. That amount should be returned to the State for better use elsewhere |

The first time I stwp into this sub thread I see ur rubbish all over the place.
This is not a business with great growth. Anyone looking revolutionary business can go else where. It is an OK company with sound business and something that is undervalued for what it is worth. This is all I need to get in. I dont see how this investment can be bad after 1 to 2 years time frame |

The relief goes towards reducing taxi rentals, enabling self-employed taxi drivers to continue earning a living. Whether or not CDG offered further discounts on top of the Govt relief, I am not sure.
If no Govt relief is offered, can CDG fully bear the discount itself? It might not be financially viable (rental revenue cannot cover operating costs and depreciation) and taxis can park one side unused. Taxi Drivers lose their source of income (don't say they can go become Grab drivers instead) and create hardship for their dependents. |

| I am concerned why a company which has made a huge profit of $21.7m in a difficult time like this is given government relief. This is especially so that half of its business interest is overseas. Was any of the relife fund booked as profits? I hope the company or the government would clarify. |

Why no bus? It is getting a fixed contract fee from the government for running one of the 3 bus services and one of the two train services in Singapore. Why still need relief? SMRT can take over the services anytime if it go bust because all the assets belong to the government. The relief money was public fund belonging to all tax-payers. Why was any of it paid to a company which could profit $21.7m in a quarter? How much of it was used to support its public transport services in foreign countries to make sure the Ang Mo get their buses?

Very simple, no govt relief = company go bust = tmr u go outside no bus to take to your kopitiam
