Markets expect another bank bumper year for 2025. Mrbear expects record profits again for this FY. So many are stocking up in anticipation of much higher profits this year as SE Asia economy grows steadily

I hope the 3 banks rally as high as possible till trump shouts his tariffs. Should be more than earnings that drive the banks up today.
It looks like the analysts need to revise their price targets again lol. Anyway, I expect correction will come this fri or next fri.
Lets enjoy the ride.
The way DBS has been flying, may be it will hit $60 on the 8th of aug  for SG60 lol. Pls take it as a joke.
DBS shares reach S$45 for the first time

maybe its becos due to the bond' s yield

last nite after the release of data that  ISP showed an accelaration of activity, hence showing inflation is not slowing down as such the probability of rate cuts by the feds next month might not materialise.

dbs has always been the most sensitive to bonds yield

Percentage wise, OCBC went up by more than 3%!
DBS, 1%+.
UOB the least, less than1%.

Wow all 3 banks are rising and pushing STI toward 3850 ...a good start to the year.
OCBC and DBS are at all time high .......crossing the $17 and DBS hit $45 today .
Valuation are getting 2X for DBS ( Price/Book ) and OCBC P/B is aro 1.46X at 17.25
( would we still invest in them > ? )
I have not commend on UOB , at 1.43X P/B ( 37.25 price) ....I really wonder how much more can it rise > and more importantly why ?
Expecting a good set of result coming full year 2024 in Feb 25   I dont think our banks can keep pace on this rise and profit ( of 2024) however
barring major global events, 2025 can still be a stable good year for our banks ....( more so for OCBC and DBS)
Happy investing.

No doubt the 3 banks have been the roses among the thorns.
2025 are going to be tough with tariff-minded Trump. I will settle for a 0.89c dividend and price appreciation till  $18 haha.
Happy New Year, folks.

Thanks for your consolidated update on the 3 banks.
2024 certainly was a great year for bank stocks .

Going forward into 2025, certainly we were face many headwinds ....esp the one on 20th Jan .....trump policy will be a major factor for all countries.
However the counter balance ( I hope) would be our 60 year bonus and the strong wealth management profit for banks .
Personally I think bank can still do well ( esp DBS) but might not be as strong as 2024 result .
Time will tell.

Now that 2024 trading is done and dusted , how did our trio do for this calender year ?
I have quoted my post from Dec 2023 for comparison :

STI - Started 2024 at 3240 pts , ended at 3788 , up 16.9% . One of the best performance index in Asia .

DBS - Started $33.41 , ended $43.72 ,capital gains $10.31 , bonus issue worth $3.30 , dividens collected $2.16 , total returns 47.2% .

UOB - Started $28.45 , ended $36.33 , capital gains $7.85 , dividens collected $1.65 , total returns 33.39%

OCBC - Started $13 , ended $16.69 , capital gains $3.69 , dividens collected $0.86 , total returns 35% .

What can I say . A stellar performance from the trio outperforming the index by about 2 times . And since the 3 banks constitutes around 50% of the STI , we can fairly conclude that all the gains made by STI this year came from the banks and the other 27 index stocks ended flat .

Happy New Year all .

2023 Calender Year report card :

STI - Started 2023  at  3251 pts , ended 3240 pts down 11 points or -0.34% over the entire year so flat it can be converted into Changi Airport' s 3rd runway .

DBS - Started at $34 , ended $33.41  , - 0.59% . But if you include the $2.30 dividen received , total return is +5.03% .

UOB - Started $30.89 , ended $28.45 , - 7.90% . Including dividen of $1.60 , total return is -2.7% .

OCBC - Started $12.27 , ended $13 , +5.95% . Including dividen of $0.80 , total return is +12.47% .

Despite the record profits and solid dividens in 2023 , the share price performance are not particularly impressive , except for OCBC .

UOB profits are probably affected by payment for its Citibank aquisition however I feel that the fundamentals are still very strong and its share price will outperform DBS and OCBC ( in terms of % upside ) in 2024 .

All 3 banks registered dividen yields of over 6% in 2023 .

Take note that the above statistic is for CALENDER YEAR and not financial year which would have been more appropriate .

Happy investing .

At time of typing this note ....DBS should be able to see $44 today or soon...yes 44 dollars.  New high and P/B crosses 2x .
W a $3B sBB DBS run may not be done . ( UOB also claim to have a SBB BUT the big diff is that NO $$ amount is given , again a big different in the
experience of mgt ) .
Some may not be able to comprehend the reasons for doing a SBB when price is above $42 I guess if you really look into DBS result and the
coming qtrs ( esp Q4) we can appreciate DBS ability to deploy its capital and benefit its SH .
Happy investing ,
Looking forward to a Merry Christmas and prosperous CNY .

By today ....If any into financial stock .....would definately have laugh to the bank.....HUAT
I have not written much about them in details due to war in middle east and US election ( honestly was surprise both events didnot bring down the mkt at all )
Barring any major global events.....

OCBC is certainly hitting $16 ...a new high and w Helen as CEO , growth promise cld come in .  OCBC centre (land) wld also add value to OCBC
in the next 3 yrs. No idea how far it will go from here . BOS is certainly growing very well.  Similarly for the Pearl Delta.

UOB is the most worrying one . At over $36 , it is trading at over 1.38X book and lead by a 71/72 yr old man,  Certainly expect some changes in the next 3 yrs.
Doubt he can lead w his current mgt style forever.  The web of UOB companies also need a  major reStructuring .  Time will tell on this one .
( officially there is NO SBB announced )

DBS is still the brightest among the 3 . Go growth ....and w a $3B SBB program on.  Supporting its share price .
Change of CEO should not be a major issue as she is with DBS for many years.
I can only see DBS staying abover $40 for some time .

Happy investing

Wah say 15.88.
Sad because recent market volality has failed to sink it to abt 14.81 for me to add. On stand by,  da*n long.
Anyway, still very happy to see it trying break 16 and hopefully to reach 17.
At current price 15.88, assume nav 12.47 from 12.29 (tomorrow result) giving p/b 1.27.
Assume another 1.5% jump to 12.66 and  p/b 1.27 , 16.1 (conservative) all goes well.

Prior to DBS results announcement , my valuation for DBS / OCBC is  42 and 17 respectively .

DBS is now nearing 42 and OCBC just breached 16 , still some way to go before 17 .

Now need to evaluate DBS latest results to see whether my valuations needs to be adjusted.
