A quick look at the properties owned by UE, quite an interesting mix of commercial properties in strategic spots.    Not forgetting it has recently announced sterling quarterly results.

Need to dig into financials.

Price is fluctuating now as public is not decided where the whole thing will go, whether a takeover is indeed in the works.

My own personal feel is that Charoen will go after the UE buy  with blunt force.    OCBC needs to raise cash to fund it' s Wing Hang bank purchase, it' s not just buy over the bank, but there' s re organisation and restructuring costs, expansion plans, etc.

Charoen would likely ask for the full stake to enable him to take UE whole, like what he did to F& N, then strip the assets to combine with his property play.    Willing buyer, willing seller.

Hope someone comes in to up the ante after that.

The key is if Charoen buys over all of OCBC, GE and Lee Foundation' s stake of > 30%, a takeover offer for UE is mandatory.

The takeover price will be offered to all shareholders at the price bought.

A second scenario is will there be another suitor to challenge Charoen if UE is considered undervalued?        Given the past, when Charoen fought Heineken over F& N, the guy has deep pockets.

So UE could be worth more than we can imagine now.

Gassaknomics only for target price of 3.34, please DYODD.

Looking at a 56cents further gain from current price of 2.78.    There seems to be meat in this.

Kyoto2008      ( Date: 22-Aug-2014 10:27) Posted:

Book value per share is 2.788 (POEMS stock analytics).

This is the base, there' s gonna be room for higher price.  I think just ballpark gassak only  $3.34 to take in revaluation of property (20% conservatively).

Woopie, this one already clocked more than  $10k profit.

Exciting  Price to book value at yesterday' s closing was 0.88.      Question is are the assets revalued, or is there a greater value after revaluation given assets have risen tremendously in these couple of years?    Need to dig into financials.

Today' s jump is about 30cents so far, so still room for upward price movement I think.

Guess everyone knows of them, just waiting for an incident before anyone takes action.      This is a problem of everyone being responsible but nobody owning the issue.

i dont like the way how BB has the advantage of insider news over retailers, price surging on insider news  before halt and then good news release.. as much as it is an offence in insider trading, i see many double standards in SGX..

A quick look at UE' s 2013 financials, there is almost $2bln assets (investment property) on the books.      Not sure if WBL assets are consol.

Recent results announced by UE were excellent, so the price will hve to be attractive enough to sell out any asset.

Experienced first hand how it feels to see a share price spiralling upwards every second like no tomorrow.

From the opening, the price shot upwards continuing the trend yesterday.          Then slowed as profit taking came in, now creeping up again.

Question, how far can this go?

Kyoto2008      ( Date: 22-Aug-2014 09:50) Posted:

Stock price is continuing to sprial upwards.

The key is " advanced talks" , likely to materialise.    How much is UE worth, this is the big question.    Charoen (Thai Bev) is said to be  the buyer.  That guy has a big budget.

ReutersThursday, Aug 21, 2014SINGAPORE - Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp , Singapore' s second-biggest lender, is in talks with a group linked to Thai billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi to sell its stake in property firm United Engineers Ltd, two people familiar with the talks said. OCBC and its linked companies have a nearly 36 per cent deemed interest in United Engineers, according to its 2013 annual report. If the talks succeed, the Charoen-linked group will have to make a takeover bid for United Engineers, which has a market value of US$1.2 billion (S$1.5 billion). The sources declined to be identified because the deal is not public. OCBC declined to comment, while United Engineers did not provide an immediate response. Charoen-linked companies could not be immediately reached for comment. Bloomberg reported the news of talks between OCBC and Charoen earlier. United Engineers' shares were up 7.42 per cent at S$2.46 before being halted on Thursday.
