I would say it depends on the specific country, and the specific company.
If you are a small potato in a country where there is not much geopolitical focus I would agree with you. The more you move to the other end of the scale the more challenging it is.
In this particular case the sanctions imposed by the west are mitigated because the global south is still willing to trade. But having a SGX listing for instance makes it more difficult to avoid being noticed.

Sanctions theory vs real-world business usually two different things. Geopolitics aside, companies with local backing usually adapted and survive.
