All 3 banks have given out their report card .....DBS and OCBC really doing great .  Both lead by FT w global banking knowledge .
w XD nex week for OCBC and UOB on 12th Monday .....it would be interesting to see the true strength of these 2 banks >   44c OCBC and
UOB 88c.  ( personally I think OCBC have much more to offer in the longer term .
UOB is now questioned on its CEO ....? who is his replacement in a family tradition business ?  ( time will tell )

ON the other hand ...DBS 2024 is still very much in good hand .. anyway after its current CEO , it is still run by someone who is very familiar w the
company and culture . to be fair , we were need to give her a chance to proof it ...so 2025 DBS performance wld be a good show .

Happy investing.

WOW came at a surprise to me honestly ...as the current CEO is doing so well and certainly have few more good years.
Concern once you put in a local ...( good or bad) many within the rank wld not be happy ..... time will tell .
Also someone like current CEO ( global experience and knowledge of India CHina ) is hard to replace .

If you workout the ratios based solely on thier recently announced dividens , then the ratio shall be :

DBS / UOB = 1.08 / 0.88 = 1.23
DBS / OCBC = 1.08 / 0.44 = 2.45
UOB / OCBC = 0.88 / 0.44 = 2.0

Based on this ratio alone and the current prices , DBS is cheapest and UOB most expensive .
But , it is a VERY , VERY rough guide .
Take it with a pinch of salt .
Do NOT use it as a basis for stock selection.
If only life is that simple .  cheeky

Based on current prices of the three banks, DBS @$33.77, UOB@$29.77, OCBC@$14.06, how would you rank them?

The Board has declared an interim one-tier tax-exempt dividend of 54 cents for each DBSH ordinary share for the second quarter of 2024 (the 2Q24 Interim Dividend). The estimated dividend payable is $1,536 million.

The DBSH Scrip Dividend Scheme will not be applied to the 2Q24 Interim Dividend.

Therefore the dividend is still expected to be S$0.54.

Bro, DBS also gave more leh ....from 44cts last year to 54cts this year .
And , if you were to factor in the 1 for 10 bonus issue , the 54 cts is equivalent to a 60 cents . That is a whopping 16 cents extra compared to last year .  laugh

All in all , a set of very good results I would say , especially on the 18.8% ROE .

FATABA      ( Date: 07-Aug-2024 12:51) Posted:

54c dividend ( no extra ) is a little disappointing esp w OCBC and UOB giving more.
That also means a SPECIAL bonus come end 2024 if this momentum is maintain .

good result esp w a ROE of 18.8%  ( lol will JPM or someone plan to take over DBS haha)

Not fogetting dbs is alos inceasing SH interest in SZ Rural commercial bank ( now 16.69%)
DBS is giving a yield of 6.6% ( assume 0.54x4) wo any bonus for the whole year.
Happy investing

Haha you are right ....just was expecting a little more ( following OCBC and UOB)
Anyway a sparking set of result ....and expecting a good 2024 w bonus . Nothing to question about the 18.8% ROE

Interest rate cut is not a concern as it is a double edged sword ...so I am expecting a good year for DBS .

Keeping my finger cross . vested haha
Happy investing.

whatever there is a cushion of min 54c on Wed .  So I am not sure how bad can it drop due to Japan interest rate.
Unless Iran and Israel ( both I ) decide to fire at each other ....I think dbs is worth more at $33
Dyodd
Awaiting Wed too ....and certain that something is out on Wed noon. ( never before result is mid day for a large bank like this )

I had bought DBS at $32 or below, and I am going to hold on to it like no tomorrow. I am not selling due to fear, as the strong support point is $32.
However if the support point failed and went below $30 which is the literally crash support point, I will start using my war chest that is ready for such occasion.

Ya , DBS changing their minds TWICE in a matter of days on the timing of results release really beats me .

Not much difference when they change from 8 Aug morning to 7 Aug evening , but bringing it further forward to noon of 7 Aug is drastic . Right in the middle of a trading day .

Trading halt comes to mind but what news is big enough to trigger halt ? Stock split ? Gupta step down ? DBS buying another local bank ? Bad news ?

Plus , I dont think they expected the bloodbath that we see today .

I cant wait till Wednesday .

This is NOT a request to buy or sell .....BUT some input for you .

DBS is still fundamentally very profitable and can afford to pay our good dividend .
Interest rate cut or even a war ....DBS can continue its operation and will return to its high .....just timing ?

There is ONE very UNusual thing ....> WHY CHANGE THE RESULT to the MID day on Wed the 7th > Aug
MID day .....Never hear this before and what happen after the noon result .....HALT LOL

I share my wild guess ....dividend of 59c ( national day 59th year) ,,,,Stilll NO reason to do it MID day ??
Really cant think of any special reasons ???  Anyone
Happy investing . Added/Vested

The global sell-off triggered off by fear of usa recession would last a while.
Better wait till XD (uob, ocbc 12 aug) to pick up banking durians.
Good luck.

Yes OCBC certainly did not dissapoint in fact the past week there was not much selloff in the share price as compared to DBS and UOB . Again , from the past dividen records , they have never paid a final dividen that is lower than its interim so we can more or less assume full year dividen of 88cts min for FY 2024 .

DBS , I still think the upcomimg dividen will be 54 cts . Too soon for them to raise if they do raise they will most probably do it in Q4 .
I wouldnt mind if they give more , though .

OCBC&rsquo s 2Q2024 results beat expectations with normalised net profit of S$1.94bn vs consensus estimate of S$1.83bn. It came from non-interest income growth of 13% YoY to S$1,199mn, mainly from broad based growth in fee, trading and insurance income. Net interest income rose slightly to S$2.43bn (+2% YoY) as a 5% growth in average assets was offset by net interest margin falling 6bps YoY to 2.20%. Total  allowances were down  43% YoY, largely from a decline in GP while expenses rose 3% YoY mainly from increases in staff  and IT-related costs. Cost-to-income ratio improved to 37.8%. 1H24 interim dividend up 10% YoY to 44 cents. More details to follow after 9.30am analyst briefing.

Interesting reaction to all 3 banks share after UOB result ......
UOB ,,,,,even w a 88c dividend ....Share price dropped below the $32 level ....result at best is flat consider 1H is a good half year.  Concern wld be on 12th Aug after XD.
Family control would be facing new challenge after the younger Wee ...who is not very young )
( not vested .....so it is my personal view)

OCBC ...again offer a great set of result and 44c dividend ...10% up .  LOL purely from investment point ,,,this is 50% of UOB 88c but capital invested is less then 50% of
UOB , OCBC is close to 6% yield at 14.85 . potential under CEO Helen looks great w GE now under their control . Also a $3B extra coming up .

DBS result is on 7th Aug evening .....certainly they are giving a higher dividend ( like OCBC and UOB ) ....my guess is 58/60c ?
$3 B profit is certainly a possibility ....bring a potenial $12B profit year for DBS
What could be a surprise is a potential stock split , a special one time dividend of 5c ( lol less likely haha )

INSURER Great Eastern on Wednesday (Jul 31) posted a 45 per cent increase in net profit to S$280.4 million for the second quarter ended Jun 30, from S$193.2 million in Q2 FY2023.

For the six months ended Jun 30, net profit increased 34 per cent year on year to S$587.1 million, from S$437.2 million. This was driven by higher profit from the insurance business and favourable investment performance in shareholders&rsquo fund, said Great Eastern, an OCBC subsidiary.

H1 earnings per share rose 35 per cent on the year to S$1.24, from S$0.92.

Takeover or not or whether OCBC holdings of GE is 88% or 93% , doesnt make much of a difference . GE made an extra 150m YoY ( H1 24 vs H1 23 ) . If 50% of this additional profit is paid as interim dividen tomorrow , it works out to be about 1.5 cts extra of GE contribution over the previous year .

Lets see the banking arms performance tomorrow .

I do not think ocbc q2 result will  be fully factored in ge takover, should be 3 qtr with more time.
For q2 results, assuming ocbc a 3% growth in nav (12.64 from 12.27 q1 with p/b 1.18),
eps (1.68 frm ttm 1.63 with p/e 9), price range $14.92-15.12. I think roe should be stable and  abt  50% payout ratio.
Yes, I do see the prices of 3 banks to go back to end june on xd, good time to buy again with attractive valuation/support level
