Bumitama Agri' s Q1 profit falls 36.4% on increased CPO levy and export tax

BUMITAMA Agri posted 36.4 per cent lower earnings of 166.73 billion rupiah (S$15.6 million) for the first quarter ended March, compared to earnings of 262.07 billion rupiah in Q1 FY2020.

In a business update on Tuesday morning, the Indonesian palm oil producer said the lower profit was mainly due to a higher crude palm oil (CPO) levy and export tax.

Revenue grew 14.4 per cent on-year to 2.31 trillion rupiah from 2.02 trillion rupiah previously. This was supported by improved production as fresh fruit bunches (FFB) volumes and yield both grew year on year by 24.8 per cent and 19.5 per cent, respectively, which the group attributed mainly to conducive weather in 2020 and an optimal fertilisation programme.

Cost of sales for the quarter grew 21.8 per cent on the back of the higher production volume and higher average purchase price of FFB arising from an increase in CPO price, resulting in the group' s lower gross profit compared to the previous corresponding period.

As at end-March 2021, the group' s gearing ratio stood at 0.54.

All of the group' s estates and mills have remained in full operation since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, said Bumitama Agri, adding that it will continue with business continuity plans to mitigate impact on its business operations.

Question 1 Please share with us your outlook on the palm oil industry for 2021, specifically on the supplydemand dynamics and the prices of crude palm oil? The Company&rsquo s reply : &ldquo Most analysts of the palm oil industry have forecast CPO price for 2021 to be averagely around RM3,000 &ndash 3,300/MT. We would expect CPO supply and demand to be relatively stable with the group anticipating its internal FFB to have a growth projection of up to 10% for 2021. In terms of demand, palm oil is a consumer staple product consumed in many forms including food (F& B outlets and homes) and non-food consumables like soap. CPO prices will be dependent on the demand and supply of CPO and other vegetable oil. The biodiesel programme of Indonesia and Malaysia will provide strong support for CPO demand. We remain positive on the long term outlook of the palm oil industry.&rdquo

Think most countries won' t as Palm Oil is the cheapest edible oil. Unless CPO goes up the roof or Soya Bean Oil drops big time so that it is about the same price as CPO

CPO at MYR 3730 = USD904
SBO  at USD1195

Difference of about 30%

Hi guys,

Bumitama will not reap the benefits of high CPO price.
It has lock-in the delivery price for this half-year at low price + it need to absorb / pay for higher ICI4 palm price cause of Indonesia taxation on palm oil due to the way it structured its contract.
You can read up from past few announcements and reports from analysts.

Just sharing.

Higher palm oil prices lift revenues of locally listed planters and refiners

04 Mar 2021 09:00

By Uma Devi

THE recent spike in crude palm oil (CPO) prices has helped lift the top and bottom lines of CPO plays listed on the Singapore bourse. The effects, however, have not been universal. It is the smaller, pure-play counters - such as Bumitama Agri and Mewah International - that have come out tops.

Their share price performances, however, have not necessarily matched their improved financial performances - suggesting some upside for investors. Nirgunan Tiruchelvam, head of consumer sector equity research at Tellimer, said there is " tremendous diversity and divergence" in the average selling prices of each palm oil company as each firm adopts its own " hedge strategy" .

The divergence is then reflected in the company' s financial results, he explained. Other possibilities include different production levels across companies due to sizes of plantations or amounts of fertilisers used, he added.

Amid a supply crunch and strong demand from importing countries such as India and China, CPO prices have been on a steady upward trajectory for several months. From a low of RM2,163 (S$710) per tonne on May 4, 2020, CPO futures climbed steadily to finish last year at RM3,365. In 2021, prices rallied further to hit their highest level since 2011.

Spendid result from one of its major shareholders!

IOI Corp posts 66% jump in 4Q net profit amid high CPO prices

For the cumulative six-month period, IOI Corp said its net profit jumped 75% to RM633.6 million from RM362.5 million in the previous year, while revenue increased 32% to RM4.93 billion from RM3.73 billion.
Despite the declining trend in crop production and labour shortage due to the government&rsquo s foreign worker freeze, the group expects its plantation segment to perform well for the remaining quarters of its financial year ending June 30, 2021, driven by expected strong CPO prices.

" Our total planted area is 99% oil palm, (of) which, 83% are classified as mature," said IOI Corp, which owns a 32.1% stake in Singapore-listed Bumitama Agri Ltd.
