Brokers' take: RHB downgrades Bumitama Agri to ' sell' on lower-priced forward sales
TUE, FEB 23, 2021 - 1:21 PM

RHB on Tuesday downgraded Bumitama Agri to " sell" from " buy" , with a lowered target price of S$0.45 from S$0.60. Maybank Kim Eng also cut its target price to S$0.65 from S$0.78 and maintained its " buy" call on the stock.

This came after the Indonesian palm oil producer' s management said during an analyst briefing that H1 2021 forward sales contracts were locked in at prices 20-25 per cent lower than current prices, excluding taxes and levies.

" This is negative, especially given our view that crude palm oil (CPO) prices will only remain elevated in H1 2021 before moderating in H2 2021," RHB' s research team said.

Bumitama Agri had entered into the sales contract in the later part of 2020 before the announcement of Indonesia' s new export tax structure. The contract specified that the group is to bear the difference between ultimate statutory export taxes and the agreed-upon export tax of US$55 per tonne.

" This contract clause is negative on Bumitama Agri' s earnings as long as CPO spot prices are high," Maybank KE said.

Bumitama Agri' s FY2020 earnings and earnings per share (EPS) exceeded expectations for the research teams at RHB and Maybank KE respectively.

RHB has lowered its FY2021 earnings forecast by 24 per cent but raised its forecast for FY2022 net profit by 10 per cent, after adjustments for higher palm oil fresh fruit bunches output and lower CPO prices.

Meanwhile, Maybank KE cut its estimates for FY2021 EPS by 10 per cent, but raised its estimates for FY2022 EPS by 12 per cent on higher CPO average selling prices.

Bumitama 9M net profit jumps 48.8% on higher palm oil prices

BUMITAMA Agri Ltd has announced higher revenue and net profit for the first nine months of its 2020 fiscal year from a year ago, on higher prices of palm oil.

In a business update on Tuesday, the Indonesian palm oil producer said net profit attributable to owners of the company rose 48.8 per cent to 632.14 billion rupiah (S$59.6 million) for the nine-month period ended Sept 30, from 424.86 billion rupiah for the same period in 2019.

Revenue rose 12.6 per cent to 6.08 trillion rupiah for the first nine months, from 5.40 trillion rupiah in the year-ago period.

Bumitama said the group' s financial performance for the first nine months of 2020 strengthened due to increased palm oil prices compared to the previous corresponding period.

Sales revenue in both crude palm oil and palm kernel had increased during the year, despite lower sales volume. Revenue for its crude palm oil business grew 13.3 per cent to 5.48 trillion rupiah, even as sales volume fell 9.8 per cent year on year to 670,000 metric tonnes.

Average sales price of crude palm oil rose 25.6 per cent year on year to 8,184 rupiah per kilogramme.

Bumitama said its overall operational performance for the first nine months of 2020 was impacted by the lagged effects of El Nino in 2019. Fresh fruit bunches yield decreased 7.7 per cent year on year due to the negative impact of extreme weather on palm trees.

The group added that Kalimantan experienced La Nina starting August this year, which brought about heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of Kalimantan. It said its operations had not been affected by the floods.

Bumitama also said all its estates and mills have remained in full operation since the start of the large-scale social restrictions in Indonesia in March this year.

Palm oil counters receiving attention.
Maybe due to the below news.
Bumitama Agri over here low liquidity. But once move, can move fast (but then can be both direction).

Trade with care.

Watch Golden Agro and First Resources too.

Not sure if this is also positive for Bumitama Agri' s revenue since the company is Indonesia-based.
One key competitor in trouble.

(ok. Do your own DD)

Last q of the Calendar Year usually see a spike up in Palm Oil price and further re-rating by analysts.
Can confirm from past year trends and analyst upward re-rating reports during the last calendar year q.

We have already seen the SSH of Golden Agri buying shares from open market recently.
Likewise, First Resources keep buying back shares from open market too.
Bumitama, thinly trade. But once move, will move fair bit.

Keep look out for the palm oil price.
