That is why CPS commands a better price than PCS.

Thanks, Sporeguy.

Sounds to me CPS is a better deal on paper as cf PCS.. due to the step date. Thanks !

The holder of  CPS will be entitled to dividend at 6% pa, payable semi-annually on 25th April and 25th October every year. Since this preference share is also perpetual, which means that unlike a bond, there is no maturity period for which the issuer will redeem back the bond. However, there is an option for the issuer to redeem back the preference shares on or after 25th April 2018. Take note that this is a right solely to be considered by Hyflux, not an obligation. If they chose not to redeem it back on or after 2018, then they will step up the dividend rate from 6% pa to 8% pa. If they chose to redeem it back, they will buy it back from you at par value.

PCS  seems more like perpetual shares than bonds. The difference is not significant though, given that it' s a perp, so there is no maturity date even though there is a optional but not obligated redeemable date.

If Hyflux is in trouble, PUB n NEA very busy liao - to salvage the desalination n WTE projects.  But fact is, after Swiber, everyone seems allergic to bonds n so those with big risk appetite will benefit from the better yield  - but dyodd first, some  other bonds might be shaky too ....

hyflux 6 percent cps payout will be on 25 oct 2016. As payout is only one month away why is it still below par value. Is hyflux in trouble ?.

No need to worry. After i checked with a broking house, i bought 10K myself. The selldown is across the board because some HNWI who use leverage or margin to buy the O& G bonds like Swiber and KrisEnergy, etc are selling their non O& G bonds to cover their losses in their O& G bonds.  Indiscrimanant selling is a chance to make $$$.

Of all the retail bonds, i think Hyflux is the safest because water is a live or death issue for us. If really Hyflux need help, Temasek or government will come in. Government will not let Hyflux collapse. They have a 20 years water supply with PUB. If Hyflux collapse, we also die because 40% of our water supply come from there. The market cap is just meager $400M, a piece of cake for TH after they sell SingTel. If that happen, their bonds will surge above par, just like the 3 banks. So if next week drop some more, I will load up more.

Thx, brother for sharing.  I think our investors need to familiarise themselves with all these technicalities before diving in.

Preferred shares have a stated par value.

In case of liquidation the claim of preferred stock holders is restricted to the par value of the preferred stock.

The claim of preferred stockholder' s on assets comes after that of creditors but before that of common stockholders.
