The longer the short sellers wait, the higher the price they will have to pay.

Take this remark with a pinch of salt people, given Peter Pan refuses to explain his point of view, despite many requests. He is singing the same tune, repeating this post many times over and sounds suspect to say the least.

The post should read " Before that, the price was well around $2 which is more than 40% higher than the current price.

Long before its accusations on Olam in Nov, MW had already started shorting the stock. Before that, the price was well around $2 which is more than 40% of the current price.

My average cost is around $1.45 and many investors here do not need the price to rise to $2 to make a gain on this stock.

Long before publishing its research  on New Oriental Edu  for free in July, MW had already sold its research to PAID subcribers who short sold the stock, leading to a drop in price from 28c to 9c

In July, Muddy Waters turned its attention to China's booming education industry. It alleged that New Oriental Education and Technology Group, the country's largest private sector training company, was using accounting tricks to inflate its profits. Muddy Waters concluded: " It is probable EDU [the New Oriental ticker symbol] will restate earnings, and probable that Deloitte [its auditor] will resign."

Almost six months on, US-listed New Oriental has not restated its earnings, Deloitte has not resigned -- and the company's shares are now about a third higher than they were when Mr Block published his attack.

Business at its schools is humming. On a recent evening, hundreds of young students filed into a Beijing-based training centre for after-school classes, receiving extra tuition in English, maths, even Marxist theory -- anything to give them an edge in the hyper-competitive Chinese education system.

To pre-empt misunderstanding, let me add that there is no connection between GIC's rate of return and the interest paid on CPF accounts. The GIC invests the Govt's reserves abroad in equities, bonds, real estate and other asset classes, which carry higher risks and therefore can be expected to earn higher returns on average over the long term.

The CPF invests members' savings only in absolutely risk-free Singapore Government bonds. CPF members are paid market-related interest rates based on the 12-month fixed deposit rates and the savings account interest rates of the major Singapore banks, subject to a floor.

CPF members who are willing to accept higher risks for higher returns have many channels to do so on their own, through the CPFIS.
