The OCBC outlay for GE minorities is about S$1.2bn. Compared, to OCBC' s mkt cap of S$65bn, a couple of % change in the consideration price is chump change.
Our 3 banks are stuck aro current level ......DBS below 36 and OCBC back to 15.20 ( still there is concern onn thr price to takeover GE ...do OCBC
need to pay more for GE at the expenses of OCBC SH ? ) and UOB is forever below 31 .....conservatively LOL
Would the first cut by FED ....trigger a long needed pull back of our banks ( before the 1H result ? )  ....time will tell .

A re-development the size of Chulia St is no easy task . From design conceptualisation , Authorities submission and approval , tendering process , demolition , construction etc.....easilly 5 years at the very minimum and may stretch up to 10 years if emcumbrances encountered .
OCBC is 92 this year , I would expect them wanting to move back into the new premise in conjunction with their 100th anniversary . Only 8 years left and not much time . Unless , the design development has been confirmed at this stage and awaiting execution.
OCBC 100 .........Hmmm.... A 100 cents special dividen to commemorate the event ?  It will only cost them 4.5b .

Banks are still leading STI w the hope that interest rate wld stay or even some over ambitious view as rising again.
Interest rate is a 2 way sword .....IF ( which I doubt) it did rise again , many business are going into trouble w their loans .
So in fact, it might cause some closure and bad loans could rise in the banks .
More likely a small cut or 2 in the 2H ......which again might not affect the banks much ...but do not expect continuing record profit .
OCBC is in a different position ......over next 12 mths ....taking over GE is an expense to pay over market price for that extra 10% or so ....yes it
wld use up its tier2 capital etc . And not forgetting the integration of GE .....now to OCBC Helen mgt style ( I doubt it is totally smooth w old GE mgt )
whatever it wld take time esp w effective cost cutting mgt . ( doubt it will be work as normal ....haha)
Speculation of OCBC Chulia st project ( just call it) will not happen immediately ....so in the next 6/12 mths , it should be at most sideway .
( 2025 cld then be different if all these are re group etc ) ....time will tell .  Oh and not forgetting the $$ sink into HK hometown recently from Helen .
Digital etc upgrade are sunken cost . Time will tell
UOB is  more the silent party ..rising slowly ....guess the not so young Wee is conservatively enjoying at the expense of SH .......

Tough call.
Early 2022, when dbs was 37+ and ocbc 12+, the ratio was almost 3:1.
2023 ocbc did much better, and after Q1 24 results, their prices are now at a ratio of 2.5 : 1.
Their dividen yields also follow the same ratio. For yield of 5%, dbs shd be priced at 40 and ocbc 16, a 2.5 : 1 ratio.
I think this ratio will be maintained over the next 2 years given that both has been reporting similiarly good results.

I think OCBC PB ratio can improve a little. As for PE and yield, both banks are very similar.

How do you figure this?
P/NAV, yield, P/E?

How much is OCBC worth in your opinion?

OCBC will be worth more than 15 on SGX market whether or not they revise their GE offer. I don?t think OCBC will revise the offer.
Our Banks are still staying strong ..
DBS towards the 36 mark , OCBC trying to break 14.50 and UOB rising well to 30.50+
What is most interesting in the coming weeks wld be OCBC offer for GE .....seem like many small SH are not happy w the offer price ?
Hmm.,,,,,, most likely OCBC is going to get this jewel into its bag.....but IF , and yes IF they do revise the offer up ....many OCBC SH ( non GE holders)
would be unhappy w the extra cost ....will this happen ?  Whatever, OCBC share price will be closely monitor in coming weeks .....

Very true, our banks will fly.
At another angle, rate cut boost spending (properties, cars, other high value items, etc.) with cheaper monies (cheaper loans).

Banks will fly this year. Those anal-yst with all their BS thesis that banks stock prices will fall because interest rates are going to fall earlier this year are now scrambling to re-rate the stock in light of possibility that there will be at most 2 rate cuts this year.

Gosh ... the banks are into high gears again ....
Difference between Share buyback and bonus share issuance.
IMO
Share buyback means that the company will spend less to pay out dividends as these shares will go into treasury.
Or they have no confidence going forward with maintaining or increasing dividends.
Bonus share issaunce is a demonstration of being able to maintain or even increase divdends per unit share going forward. This is because the cost of dividends will increase if they increase DPU.

OCBC and UOB are doing share buybacks, whereas DBS is paying bonus dividends. Is there anything meaningful one can read from this?
