Gave up already sold out at 22.5c/share average. Was looking at their other listed SGX subsidiary tat seng packing(> 100% return from march lows) and realized that I might have made a mistake investing in Hanwell versus Tat Seng Packaging directly.
Main purpose for Hanwell as a holding company is that it holds cash and then reinvests in new business and subsidiaries. @nott1965 is right in that management which are also main shareholders wont be incentivized issue huge dividends payouts nor big share buybacks to drive up share price.
Reccomend that if your up on hanwell that you offload this stock and reinvest in other cheaper, liquid and deep value plays.

I wish management had been more proactive such as moving into supermarket chain. Afterall with the products they are manufacturing. it would make sense to become a giant together with their packaging subsidiary Tat Seng. I am sure they can be even bigger than Sheng Shiong and Cold Storage easily if managment had more business acuments. Sadly. they had been too conservative over the years, just only wanting to collect directors fees at the end of the year. These directors should have retired long ago

man. they killed their earnings call and only 2% up. I think ill get more tdy. still cheap. or most of the current shareholders who are uncles and aunties havent seen the earnings result yet.
I would say this stock is a good hedge on your risky medical plays espcially during these times of uncertainties.
- They are in the rice importer and FMCG business which is considered essential business. So if we are forced to do a semi-lockdown, impact to their business is almost 0.
- They are sitting on around 100million+ cash. So they would be relatively unaffected in the upcoming solvency crisis.
so please DYODD and check how does this stock fits into your portfolio

Man bro, sorry to hear that. But based on research share buyback havent start yet.
https://sginvestors.io/sgx/stock/dm0-hanwell/share-price-history
So my figure is that share buyback can be bought at up to 5% higher than trailing prices.
So u got about 5% more upside liao. i don' t think the shares will touch 50c again. But i think aiming for a 30c sell point for you will still be feasible.
Cheers,
Ochi

part of the reason why this old horse price kept falling over the years despite yearly profit is because of the stingy old management from the PSC days. They believed in keeping money to pay themselves as directors fees. I had been holding this since the PSC days average about $0.50 till now. Very little initiatives

i thought record profit?
haha @nott1965,time for you to exit, you must like those divident aristocrat stocks. i spoke to their investor relations today and they shared some interesting deals in the pipeline in 2H 2020.
Think they will talk about this in their earnings call.
Think abt it, mgt conservativeness is actually their blessing. They didnt spend on stupid projects that could have killed them during covid 19.
Now they are sitting on a horde of cash and contemplating assets on firesale to purchase.
Cheers,
Ochi

subsidiary tat seng profit fell and still declared dividend. This stingy parent profit increased so much but nothing. Need someone like Quartz to kick the management backside to wake them up!
Hanwell Holdings posts 139.6% growth in 1H20 earnings to $9.9 mil on higher gross profit margins and other income

Consumer essentials provider Hanwell Holdings has registered 1H20 earnings of $9.9 million, up 139.6% from the $4.1 million posted a year ago.

This translates to earnings per share (EPS) of 1.79 cents for the same period, compared to 0.75 cents last year.

Revenue for 1H20 fell 4.9% y-o-y to $215.8 million mainly attributable to the lower revenue generated from the China sector of the packaging business from Tat Seng Group due to the extended Chinese New Year holiday break in February imposed by the Chinese government.

The decline was partially mitigated by higher contributions from the company&rsquo s Singapore Consumer Business segment, which saw growth from higher demand for essential products as a result of Covid-19.

Gross profit for the half-year period saw a 13.8% y-o-y increase to $50.6 million due to lower cost of raw material for its packaging business (Tat Seng Group), and a combination of good price and cost management by the Singapore Consumer Business segment.

Other income rose 134.3% y-o-y to $3.8 million mainly due to an exchange gain for the period instead of an exchange loss in 1H19. There is also the one-off grant from the government in 1H20 to provide financial support to businesses as a result of Covid-19.
As at end June, cash and cash equivalents stood at $138.4 million.
