821a lowest bid $1182mil, winning bid $1211mil...............886 lowest bid $195mil, winning bid $225mil.  If LTA goes for the lowest bid, the savings (taxpayers' $)   are about $29mil & $30mil respectively.

I think I know the reason why Yongnam did not get...... one of its subsidary (Yongnam Engineering & Construction (Pte) Ltd) kenna 20 demerits points (MOM website). ....... hiaz.......

I have not checked Koh' s or Woh' s subsidaries yet.

Yongnam damn unlucky...... lowest bid for 821a, cannot get.  886 almost same proce as Koh Bro, also cannot get....... sian ...... think they need to go pray pray.... Woh  Hup, Koh Bro and Yongnam all 3 no demerit points so they should be on par on safety....... wonder what was the awarding criterior for the contracts.  Intends of available capacities, Koh Bro and Yongnam should be better than Woh Hup (just look at their ongoing projects)..... financial wise, Yongnam is probably the strongest (IMHO).  So I really don' t understands why Yongnam did not get at least the 886 contact..........really unlucky.

Yep. Very disappointing outcome for Yongnam shareholders.

With 886, I can sort of understand. Koh Brothers actually submitted the second lowest bid of 225mil, which was also reported to be the winning bid amount, in the section under alternative bids. Yongnam' s base bid was 230m and alternative bids were at 226m and above so just slightly higher.

With 821a, Yongnam had a JV partner who is one of the biggest Korean engineering firms in Daewoo and is also involved in building TEL' s Steven' s station. So with the lowest bids submitted, you would expect them to have a higher chance of winning it. But sadly it did not turn out to be the case.

Interestingly, all 3 contracts announced were won by the 2nd lowest bidders. I too wonder what the criteria is.

886, Yongnam was the 2nd lowest bid, Koh was the 3rd lowest by a few millions.

Major gov projects sure award to those regulars la. This industry is like that. Unless Yongnam is significantly lower in turns of pricing, they have no place in Singapore. Good to move overseas.

agree for all. will pullback. see how low it goes. and then see what happens from there on.

harlow      ( Date: 09-Sep-2017 23:05) Posted:

Pullback is probable at least these few weeks. But I think we can hold on to the hope as construction demand is expected to be robust for the next few years so there should be enough jobs to go for everyone. As for sub-contract, i think if the margin is too low, companies will probably not take it.

FATABA      ( Date: 09-Sep-2017 21:50) Posted:

My personal view is there might be a pull back for Yongnam prices.
This sub or a sub contract wld be razor thin margin if Yongnam wld get it from Wop Hup
Airport JV with japn on Myummar is cold with recent issue ......so Yongnam might pull back till more and better contracts are awarded.
Personal view.

ya, lost to woh hup to be main contractor to this project.

But high chance yongnam can be the sub contractor to provide structural steel works to part of the project.

In the past, yongnam and woh hup partnered before so got track record. plus yongnam has been big on steelwork segment, contributing some 66% to total revenues in FY16, rather than in civil engineering. so not a big surprise on this, but i reckon may have some weakness on the share price on monday. See what market thinks then!

" For the second contract, Woh Hup (Private) Limited awarded Yongnam the structural steelwork project in a proposed new commercial development located in the northern part of Singapore. Yongnam will supply, fabricate, deliver and install the structural steelwork required in the commercial development, which will comprise an office tower, space for retail including food and beverage as well as community use, a childcare centre and two basement carparks. The project is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2017 and is targeted for completion in the fourth quarter of 2019."

North-South Corridor a lot of tenders on-going, Yongnam should have better chance there.

A lot of company went overseas to invest, end up equal to zero. Let see & hope this one is exceptional. Especially when u go into a 3 world country, a lot of case the $$ cannot get withdrawn.

Its quite interesting that it went down to 27.5 but managed to close at 29 cents, indicating some strength. It is due for some dips anyway, cannot be keep going up.
