All three Singapore banks released their results last week. The highlights were in two areas. Firstly, the banks were spiking up their general (or mattress stuffing) provisions - DBS (S$200mn), UOB (S$133mn) and OCBC (S$118mn). DBS said it was for black swans, and UOB just put enough aside to keep earnings flat YoY. The only lumpy non-performing loan was UOB' s Hong Kong commercial property. Provisions for this loan were already made. Amazingly, the general provisions built up for COVID have not even been released. Excluding provisions, the underlying earnings grew 4% YoY in 1Q25 to S$8bn. The second takeaway was that all three banks remain committed to returning excess capital. DBS has greater visibility in dividends with an extra 15 cents per quarter for the next three years. The implied yield is now 7%. UOB has a 50% payout with a 50 cents special dividend (6.6% yield). Meanwhile, OCBC' s payout ratio is at 60% with special dividend (6.5% yield). Together with the committed dividends are share buybacks of DBS S$3bn, UOB S$2bn and OCBC S$1bn.

This report from Phillip is very positive for long term investor into the banks ....LOT of provosion, strong dividend of over 6.5%,  share buyback that
are cancelled off .....and another ..HIGH ROE.
Happy investing.

OCBC&rsquo s 1Q2025 earnings of S$1.88bn were within our estimates, with 1Q25 earnings at 24% of our FY25e forecast. Net interest income fell 4% YoY to S$2.35bn as NIM fell 23bps YoY to 2.04%. Fee income rose 14% YoY from higher WM, loan-related and investment banking fees, while trading income rose 7% YoY. Total allowances were up 25% YoY from an increase in GPs, and expenses rose 5% resulting in cost-to-income ratio rising to 38.7% (1Q24: 37.1%). OCBC has maintained their FY25e guidance of NIM at around 2%, mid-single digit loan growth, CIR in the low 40% and credit costs from 20-25bps. They have also reiterated their S$2.5bn capital return plan of 60% total dividend payout ratio, combined with share buybacks over a 2-year period.
a little concern on OCBC expenses ( manage by Helen ....hmm ) ...hope it is one off due to the CNY qtr ...need to see next qtr ??

DBS  expects its loan demand will remain strong in the first half of 2025, but warned that it may slow in the second half if the trade war persists, said chief executive Tan Su Shan. The lender is projecting its full-year loan growth to be around 5 to 6 per cent, depending on how loan demand fares in the second half of 2025. Nevertheless, Tan expects DBS has other assets &ndash which will be interest bearing and have good return on equity (ROE) &ndash that it can deploy its deposits into, even if loan demand falls, she said at the lender&rsquo s first quarter 2025 results briefing on Thursday (May 8).
Confident that 60c can be maintain and potential of a one time bonus end year if performance exceed fc.  Let see this giant .

Deputy chairman and CEO of  United Overseas Bank  (UOB) Wee Ee Cheong bought 100,000 ordinary shares for S$34.475 per share via market transaction on May 7. This increases his stake in the bank to 10.755% of the percentage of total number of ordinary voting shares, from the 10.747% previously. The total number of ordinary shares Wee holds in UOB is now 179.67 million shares. Wee last bought 200,000 shares in UOB via market transaction on Feb 20. The shares were bought at S$38.64975 apiece or S$7.7 million in total.
somehow .....w the full integration of VISA operations ...UOB seem to be slowing catching up . Also aggressive in cards and fees promotion.

A report from Phillip Securities.

DBS
&rsquo 1Q2025 adjusted earnings of S$2.9bn were in line with our estimates, with 1Q25 adjusted earnings at 26% of our FY25e forecast. 1Q25 DPS (including capital return) raised 39% YoY to 75 cents. Highlights include higher net interest income of S$3.68bn (+5% YoY) as loans grew 2% YoY while NIMs dipped to 2.12% (-2bps YoY). Fee income rose 22% YoY from continued growth in wealth management and loan-related fees. Credit costs were flat YoY at 10bps. DBS has maintained their FY25e guidance of PATMI growth to dip YoY due to higher taxes, NII slightly higher YoY based on three rate cuts, mid to high single digit growth in commercial book non-interest income, cost-to-income ratio around the low-40% range and credit cost at around 17-20bps with potential for GP writebacks. Additionally, DBS did note that business momentum was resilient in April, but that there were risks from the heightened uncertainty.

Wow another set of good result ...ROE over 17.3% Continue w the 60+15c dividend. ( 7% yield at $43 for DBS )
Certainly a good site for funds to park some here.  DYODD
Happy investing

First impressions of the results

&bull                     What looks good.  Wealth management fees were exceptionally strong, up 35% year on year, driving higher overall fees. Loan-related fees were also higher by 23% MQ anticipates both normalising in the coming periods. Net interest income was stable quarter on quarter, with net interest margins of 2.12% close to MQ&rsquo s estimated 2.13%. Non-performing assets were lower quarter on quarter, and year on year on minimal formation (S$159m). Specific provision charges were 10 basis points, annualised.

&bull                     What was interesting.  The bank took S$205m in general allowances (around 18 basis points of loans annualised, MQ calculates) lifting non-performing asset coverage to 137% (from 129% per 4Q24). General allowances/loans stood at 0.96% per 1Q25, up on 0.92% per 4Q24.

Overall a good set of result considering the shorter qtr if compare to normal stronger Q4. Capital distribution and buy back could boost share price ?

At the last post .....UOB has cross 35, DBS @42 and OCBC is 16.50 ,,,, UOB and OCBC are rising slightly faster then DBS .
All 3 results will be out in the next few weeks ....... STI hit 3800
I think foreign funds would find Singapore a great place to park their funds now .....HK is already China , Even Japan is risky w its selling out USD Bond.
Korea is political still unstable .....BUT honestly my biggest concern is unfortunately the election is on May 3rd .
( sorry to bring in this factor )

FUNDS and capital investment NEED and choose stable condition....who would want an unstable situation ( parliament like USA ....50/50 in all decision )
Singapore is reaching a critical condition where we can have long term planning ( 10/20 years no issue ...like the long island off the east , T5 etc /good politicians
will think about this and invest ....but those w motive will ONLY need ONE term to clean out what they want )
Many still do not believe Spore could fall ....LKY predicted we would last 2 terms and are finished IF WE LAND IN WRONG HANDS

Losting east and west coast can be real , just these alone would put Spore into a UNstable condition !!! Hope it wld not happen
When we continue to have LIARS in parliament it become harder and harder to clean it up and impliment tough policies ......simple way out is much
easier to have popular policies ( like suggestion to CUT GST ...who  is paying for the pie ?)
I hate to touch on politics ...BUT come May 3rd evening.....our result in this election CAN and WOULD move out market !!
Especially during this " tarriff time " .....( how childish to say this is a SCARE tactic ...omg )

So I would predict all 3 banks wld continue to offer a good Q1 result ....dbs would be giving 60+15 ( not more or less)
prices wld rise slowing till the election result ....after which ......the window is open .
Hoping for the best for Singaporeans
Happy investing.

Only DBS is offering divvidend for Q1...60+15c ....75c in total . I am quiet sure about this .

I expect China to come up with 145% tariffs on usa soon. Downside for the 3 banks remains very high.
At some point, the two have to make a deal as both being hit hard, esp USA for obvious reasons.
Best to nibble as they slide

First on 16th April before Easter ....DBS SH will be collecting their 60c dividend.
Not forgetting the 2nd bigger part w result on 8 May ...payout is normally faster within May 75c.
So this could keep its SH wait out during this crazy time.
OCBC xd 25th and UOB xd 28th April .

Honestly 90 days later....I doubt Mad man can settle anything w China ....at most arranged a meet up
However, is he going to take ON the world ....even w his 10% ? Bullshit if he can sign up good deals w all these countries in 90days
Internally ....senate and congress and many are after him . Time is running out for him then any of this tarriff ( imagine to implement them LOL )

Let us see who wld blink first.....but in the meantime STOCK may react to every nonsense he comes out with .
Stay Awake ... personally I think this storm he created will have to stop ....time will tell ( this crisis is really MAN made)
