G20 finance chiefs resolved on food security Ukraine war prevents formal communique (channelnewsasia.com)
The Group of 20 major economies' finance chiefs on Saturday (Jul 16) pledged to address  global food insecurity  and rising debt, but made few policy breakthroughs amid divisions over Russia' s war in Ukraine at a two-day meeting in Indonesia.
With questions growing about the effectiveness of the G20 in tackling the world' s major problems, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the differences had prevented the finance ministers and central bankers from issuing a formal communique but that the group had " strong consensus" on the need to address a worsening food security crisis.

Food prices in China went up by 2.9 percent year-on-year in June 2022, accelerating from a 2.3 percent rise a month earlier and pointing to the third straight month of increase. The latest reading also represented the steepest pace in cost of food since September 2020, amid robust consumption following a decline in COVID-19 cases in major key cities and further easing of mobility curbs. Main upward pressures largely came from fresh fruits (19.0 percent vs 19.0 percent in May), fresh vegetables (3.7 percent vs 11.6 percent), eggs (6.5 percent vs 10.6 percent), milk (0.9 percent vs 0.9 percent), and cooking oils (5.0 percent vs 3.8 percent). In addition, pork prices dropped much softer after authorities introduced a three-level early-warning system to raise the alarm for excessive ups and downs in hog prices (-6.0 percent vs -21.1 percent).  source:  National Bureau of Statistics of China
