The 2016-2020 figures are available here.

I wonder whether it is because the data gets uglier and uglier after 2014, nothing is shown after that year.

2014 : total 28,736
Now : about 16,000 (CDG has about half, hence 8,000) - registered numbers, not hired-out numbers

Hence from 2015 (when Uber came in to attack the mass market), if we average out the decline year by year, it is a drop of 2,000 per year (CDG 1,000 per year)

Just too normal in SG market because there are a lot of fomo fellows in Singapore. After they have lost all their capital, they play contra. That is better than playing in the casinos because casinos dont accept contra play.

The week before last, it dropped from 1.55 and closed at 1.44 the previous Friday. Thre drop was gradual and the price stopped for a while at every price level for the retailers to average down.

Last week the prices bounced up and down between 1.41 to 1.45 for the whole week and closed at 1.42 last Friday. During the week on Thursday 1 Oct the deitailers on the licensing of private taxis were announced (see Straits Times that day). Hence during the week many more retailers were caught buying 1.43 to 1.45.

Today more retailers were caught at 1.43 and 1.44.

So unless Robot wants to do charity it will not pump up to buy from the retailers. But to go up to 1.46 is possible purely for the purpose of pumping to dump.

Dare to innovate, don't be held back by existing norms. Those who want to jump ship to Grab have already done so. CDG can offer the best of both street and ride hailing to its taxi drivers. For non-taxi drivers, they can offer platform plus optionally rental cars and servicing package. Things that Grab and Gojek don't offer.

Conman      ( Date: 05-Oct-2020 12:52) Posted:

Taxi companies' revenue comes from drivers, not passengers.

And you aire CDG is opening up its booking apps to private hire cars? That will cause more of its taxi drivers to join the rival camps!

Entropy72      ( Date: 05-Oct-2020 12:12) Posted:

I think CDG does recognize the benefit of ride hail and importantly, that consumers like to ride hail on app. Hence they have launched their own ride hail app and integrate it with some banks. Some brothers shared that their ride hail fixed trip prices are competitive with Grab / Gojek.

Now what if CDG extends their ride hail app to freelance non-taxi drivers? They already have the license anyway. That would be new revenue streams for them. They can also tie up these freelance non-taxi drivers with their service workshops and Vicom.

The whole world has changed. The earlier CDG admit that its business model (of renting out taxis) is in the process of being nullified by private taxis' (allowing their drivers to use their own cars for the same jobs), and that it is not at all a Covid Pandemic problem, the better it will be for its survival.
