Hong Lai Huat partners Danish-based Skiold on proposed Cambodia-Singapore Agriculture Special Economic Zone worth US$1 bil
Property and agriculture company Hong Lai Huat on September 7, entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Skiold A/S for a proposed Cambodia-Singapore Agriculture Special Economic Zone with an estimated investment value of US$1 billion ($1.36 billion).
 
Skiold A/S is a 140-year-old Danish-based company that is in the farming and agriculture industry as well.
 
The objective of the MOU is to &ldquo create the foundation for the first mutual platform for cooperation to enhance trade and economic cooperation and technical exchanges within the field of poultry and cattle farming as well as seed processing for Cambodia,&rdquo says Hong Lai Huat in a September 7 statement.
 
Under the MOU, both companies have agreed to initiate the setting up of livestock and seed production in the agriculture economic zone, perform a feasibility study of the proposed new project for the initiative comprising the development and implementation of livestock and agricultural production, and create more job opportunities within the next six months.
 
&ldquo We are very pleased to have entered into this MoU with SKIOLD A/S on the potential collaboration of the Cambodia-Singapore Agriculture Special Economic Zone,&rdquo says Ong Jia Jing general manager and executive director at Hong Lai Huat.
 
&ldquo Particularly in a world that has been greatly affected by Covid-19, food security is a highly significant matter that all countries are looking into resolving. We believe that this collaboration will be meaningful and a success for both of our companies and will allow us to contribute to Cambodia as well as Singapore,&rdquo Ong adds.

MAINBOARD-LISTED real estate and agriculture firm Hong Lai Huat Group has inked a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Denmark-based farm equipment supplier Skiold.
Both parties intend to collaborate for a proposed Cambodia-Singapore Agriculture Special Economic Zone with an estimated investment value of US$1 billion, said Hong Lai Huat in a bourse filing on Monday evening.
In the next six months, they will focus on the following aspects before signing a binding agreement: initiate the setting up of livestock and seed production in the Special Economic Zone perform a feasibility study of the proposed new project to produce poultry, cattle and seed production in Cambodia as well as Singapore, to supply and enhance Singapore' s food security and create more job opportunities for countries in connection with this partnership and the resulting spin-offs.
Hong Lai Huat added that with the MOU, a mutual platform can be built to enhance trade and economic cooperation and technical exchanges within the field of poultry and cattle farming as well as seed processing for Cambodia.

Between May 6 and 12, Hong Lai Huat Group deputy chairman and CEO, Ong Bee Huat acquired 513,300 shares of the listed company for a consideration of S$66,709. At 13 cents per share, this increased his direct interest in the group from 20.58 per cent to 21.02 per cent.
 
He is the founder of the group and is responsible for its overall strategic direction and planning as well as business development.
 
Dr Ong has gradually increased his direct interest in Hong Lai Huat Group from 15.02 per cent in early May 2018. He noted in the FY19 annual report (released in April) that the property and real estate division in Cambodia has successfully completed the construction of its first mixed development project D' Seaview in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
 
The group' s second mixed development project, Royal Platinum has also completed its piling works and expected to start its main construction works on 20 May 2020.
