The Spanish bull has stood proud on Iberian hilltops for years, a symbol of force and a fitting tribute to a country which up until recently was the euro zone's fourth richest.

But step out of the Castilian plain and onto the bustling streets of Madrid – or any other Spanish city for that matter - and the skyline tells a different story.

The horizon is dotted with relics from the country's now burst property bubble.

Lastest news: Spanish borrowing costs soar: 10-year hits 7%

Empty apartment blocks stand idle in the suburbs, while downtown Spain's financial district cast shadows and a shadow over their children's future.

Trapped between its cash-strapped banks and weakening public finances Spain is the biggest economy to run the gauntlet of skeptical credit markets that in three years have claimed the scalps of as many eurozone members like Greece, Portugal and Ireland.

The single currency can ill afford a bailout for Spain but neither can its leaders ignore crisis of confidence the country's banks are causing. As such speculation is rife the country may require a bailout.

Spanish and Italian bond yields fell on Monday, allaying immediate fears of a fiscal crisis in the country, while Spanish bank shares leapt 6% and European equities soared.

The Spanish Treasury said it would continue to tap debt markets with regular auctions after the 17-nation currency area agreed to lend Spain up to 100 billion euros to prop up its ailing banks.

The govt remains committed to its fiscal consolidation programme and structural reforms it said in a statement published on the economy ministry website late on Sunday.

Spain has avoid being put under the kind of scrutiny which Greece, Ireland and Portugal were forced to accept for their bailouts but the implementation of its fiscal plans and the restructuring of the banks will be closely monitored.

agree ..   Singapore's com rates is steep. SG style is always cut throat as much as possible til they notice biz dyng then they soften.

BBs are given many advantages against retailers that's why retailers first to die.

Can they (the " chngK" ) be more pro-retailers if they still fix our commission at " cut-throat" high rates to prevent us (retailers) from actively trading in and out? How to churn out bigger volumes when we are restricted by high commission and all sorts of fees?  The king should please make more efforts and have a more retailer-friendly playing field and don't just stay in the dark ages
