SBS Transit Q1 profit slips 2.2% to S$15.6 million despite ridership gains But its revenue grows by 4.8% to S$391.8 million [SINGAPORE] Transport operator SBS Transit : S61 -0.28% on Friday (May 8) posted a 2.2 per cent decline in net profit to S$15.6 million, from S$15.9 million in the year-ago period. The group attributed the dip in profit to lower interest income. Revenue stood at S$391.8 million, a 4.8 per cent increase from S$373.8 million in the previous year. The increase in revenue was driven by higher service fees for buses, the result of higher fuel indexation and annual indexation. Higher rail fare revenue, driven by a higher average fare and ridership numbers, also contributed to the rise in overall revenue. Daily ridership numbers also rose. The North-East Line clocked a 2.7 per cent increase in average daily ridership to 610,814 the Downtown Line&rsquo s average daily ridership numbers rose 2.1 per cent to 474,846. SBS Transit introduced three new two-car Light Rail Vehicles to the Sengkang West Loop under its expansion plan for Sengkang-Punggol LRT. By 2028, 25 such vehicles will be deployed in the network. Operating costs, on the other hand, grew 4.9 per cent to S$374 million, from S$356.5 million in the year-ago period. The increase came from higher fuel and electricity costs, mainly arising from higher average prices and higher staff costs. The group&rsquo s operating profit increased 2.9 per cent to S$17.8 million, from S$17.3 million in the year-ago period. Shares of SBS Transit fell 0.3 per cent or S$0.01 to S$3.60 on Friday, prior to the announcement. |

SBS Transit shares rally past S$4 on bumper dividend, stronger cash flow visibility Analysts say the expected total dividend of nearly S$0.50 per share implies a 14.4% yield [SINGAPORE] Shares of public transport operator SBS Transit : S61 +0.24% have surged past the S$4 mark in April &ndash the first time since 2019. The strong showing comes on the back of an outsized dividend payout and growing investor appetite for stable, yield-generating stocks. On Thursday (Apr 16), the counter opened at S$4.15, and was down S$0.02 or 0.5 per cent at S$4.12 as at 11.16 am. It had gone as high as S$4.21 on Monday, having breached S$4 since Apr 9. The counter&rsquo s all-time high was S$4.72 during intra-day trading on Jun 21, 2019. Shekhar Jaiswal of RHB Bank Singapore said the announcement of a significant full-year dividend was the immediate rerating catalyst for SBS Transit, although the share price had already been trending up since late last year. &ldquo In our view, the continued strength in the share price as the stock moves closer to the ex-dividend date largely reflects a compression of that implied yield, as investors position for the dividend while also placing greater value on SBS Transit&rsquo s strong balance sheet, visible cash flows under the government contracting model, and resilient earnings profile,&rdquo he said. The counter has climbed from around S$2.80 in July 2025, although it has seen a sharp rise since Feb 20, 2026. Big payoff? On Feb 24, the company posted its full-year results for FY2025, where its net profit fell 13 per cent to S$61.2 million and revenue slipped 2.7 per cent to S$1.5 billion. However, it announced a total dividend of S$0.496 per share for 2025, with a payout ratio of 253 per cent. &ldquo Based on the share price on the date of announcement, the implied yield was about 14.4 per cent, which is unusually attractive for a defensive domestic transport operator,&rdquo said Jaiswal. He added that the share price spike came after the FY2025 results were released on Feb 24, with the announced dividends supported by excess capital on the balance sheet. But the strong share price of the company, which is a subsidiary of transport giant ComfortDelGro, : C52 0% is also at least partly due to contract wins and solid performance. This was supported by the company&rsquo s win on the Jurong Region Line contract, where it will partner French transport operator RATP Dev, which was announced in November 2024. More than 60,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk from a train station after the Jurong Region Line, Singapore&rsquo s seventh MRT line, becomes operational. However, the line&rsquo s opening has been delayed for six months, and is targeted to open in mid-2028 instead. &ldquo The structure of that contract is important because it passes fare revenue risk to the government, which further improves cash flow visibility and reduces earnings volatility,&rdquo added Jaiswal. |

Under the  Bus Contracting Model (BCM), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) owns the bus assets and infrastructure, while SBS Transit operates the services, with diesel-related fuel costs for revenue mileage fully covered by LTA. LTA is transitioning to a cleaner energy fleet, aiming for 100% cleaner energy by 2040, including the deployment of electric buses using overhead pantograph chargers and diesel-hybrid buses. No wonder still holding so well despite the oil surge.

SBS Transit shares jump 10.4% to new record on S$0.4065 dividend   It&rsquo s rewarding shareholders with final dividend of S$0.0866 and special dividend of S$0.3199 per share [SINGAPORE] Shares of SBS Transit : S61 +10.76% rose S$0.36 or 10.4 per cent to hit S$3.80 at 9.12 am on Wednesday (Feb 25), reaching an all-time high for the counter. The rise comes on the back of the transport group&rsquo s release of its  full-year financial results on Tuesday, where it said it is rewarding shareholders with a final dividend of S$0.0866 per share and a special dividend of S$0.3199 per share. This will result in a total dividend of S$0.4960 per share for 2025, including the interim dividend of S$0.0895. It represents a payout ratio of 253 per cent. The dividends were announced despite full-year net profit falling 13 per cent year on year to S$61.2 million, as revenue and operating profit both declined. SBS Transit said that the board proposed the special dividend after a &ldquo review of the group&rsquo s capital requirements and funding needs&rdquo . According to its balance sheet, the company has deposits and bank balances of almost S$400 million. The final and special dividends are payable if approved by shareholders at the annual general meeting on Apr 23. ComfortDelGro, a multi-modal global transport group, is the majority shareholder of SBS Transit. |

yes, I was too engrossed with moon trips.
we have an opportunity to go to the moon
seatrium doubled profits.
can you beat that?
only gold related counters can
seatrium is worth it's weight in gold
SBS is worthwhile because it is our bread and butter
not everyone goes to the moon, but everyone goes to work everyday in a train or bus.
bears included.
so, dear Mr Tong
make sure you have some SBS
transport costs set to increase. Get some of our transport costs back via dividends.

Emm... I beg your pardon?
I thot our SMRT shares were already eaten up in some scheme arrangement a decade back.
Even if I could buy SMRT, they also operate buses. AND buses are set to be withdrawn from the roads, according to you.

SBS Transit reports 13% drop in FY2025 net profit proposes special dividend of S$0.3199 per share Revenue declined 2.7% to S$1.52 billion, from S$1.56 billion a year prior [SINGAPORE] SBS Transit&rsquo s net profit for the full year ended Dec 31, 2025, fell 13 per cent to S$61.2 million, as revenue and operating profit both declined. Still, it is rewarding shareholders with a final dividend of S$0.0866 per share &ndash and a special dividend of S$0.3199 per share, said the company in a bourse filing on Tuesday (Feb 24). The transport group&rsquo s bottom line fell in tandem with 2025 revenue, which declined 2.7 per cent to S$1.52 billion, from S$1.56 billion a year prior. Revenue from public transport services was down 3 per cent at S$1.45 billion, mainly due to lower bus revenue arising from the loss of the Jurong West bus package from September 2024, which resulted in lower mileage. This was mitigated by higher rail revenue as rail average fares and ridership increased. Operating profit for the public transport service business was down 16 per cent to S$45.1 million, mainly due to lower bus revenue and higher rail licence charges, partially offset by lower fuel and electricity costs. Average daily ridership for the North East Line was up 2.2 per cent at 602,000 passenger trips, while that for the Sengkang-Punggol LRT line dropped by 2.6 per cent to 157,000 passenger trips. Average daily ridership for the Downtown Line was 1.1 per cent higher at 470,000 passenger trips. The drop in group revenue outstripped a 2.5 per cent decline in operating costs, resulting in a 6.9 per cent lower operating profit of S$68.1 million. The group&rsquo s proposed final dividend of S$0.0866 per share and special dividend of S$0.3199 per share result in a total dividend of S$0.4960 per share for 2025, including the interim dividend of S$0.0895. This represents a payout ratio of 253 per cent. Earnings per share for FY2025 was S$0.1959, lower than FY2024&rsquo s S$0.2252. SBS Transit said the board proposed the special dividend after a &ldquo review of the Group&rsquo s capital requirements and funding needs.&rdquo The final and special dividends are payable if approved by shareholders at the annual general meeting on Apr 23, 2026. Jeffrey Sim, chief executive of SBS Transit, said: &ldquo We remain focused on strengthening our competitive edge in our bus operations as well as in enhancing our rail reliability. We will continue to work closely with the LTA in implementing the Rail Reliability Taskforce recommendations to deliver a safe and pleasant journey for our commuters.&rdquo Rail operations revenue is expected to grow due to the fare adjustment that came into effect on Dec 27, 2025, and sustained increases in ridership. Bus operations revenue, conversely, is expected to decline following the loss of the Tampines Bus Package from July 2026. Shares of SBS Transit closed up 1.5 per cent or S$0.05 to S$3.44 on Tuesday. |
