 Alert Admin 		Every share has long term potential risks , not just SBS.

If we are looking to earn back some of the money we pay on transport, then SBS is for you.

Transport costs will keep going up and operators will raise prices.

So, to mitigate against rising transport costs, buy some SBS and earn some dividends to mitigate our rising transport costs

Assuming you take the bus like Bear

SBS Transit Q3 earnings fall 20.6% due to lower interest income

[SINGAPORE] Bus and train operator   SBS Transit   : S61 0%&rsquo s Q3 net profit fell 20.6 per cent year on year to S$14.5 million from S$18.2 million, due to lower interest income.
 
In its business update on Tuesday (Nov 11), the company reported a 2.4 per cent drop in revenue to S$386.5 million for the quarter.
 
The drop in revenue was attributed mainly to lower service fees for buses resulting from the loss of the Jurong West contract package to SMRT in September 2024, as well as lower fuel indexation. However, the loss was partially offset by higher rail fare and advertising revenue.
 
Operating costs fell 1.9 per cent year on year to S$370 million, mainly due to lower fuel and electricity costs resulting from lower diesel and electricity prices. However, this was partially offset by higher staff costs. Operating profit also declined to S$16.4 million, down 12.6 per cent from S$18.8 million a year ago.

If the best option for capital within the company is a low margin low return on capital investment then the capital is better off paid back to shareholders

            The Rail Reliability Taskforce[1]  has appointed a five-member Independent Advisory Panel (IAP) to provide strategic guidance, technical expertise and insights to support the Taskforce&rsquo s efforts in enhancing Singapore' s rail network reliability.

2.        The panel comprises seasoned leaders who have held key engineering and management roles in the rail sector around the world. Their combined experience covers critical areas such as the operations, management, and maintenance of core rail systems &ndash expertise essential to ensuring a safe, efficient and reliable rail network. The five members are:

i.      Ir Dr Tony Lee Kar Yun,  with extensive experience in rolling stock, operations and maintenance
ii.      Mr Patrick Bauchart,  with a specialty in signalling and transport technology
iii.    Dr Cai Chang Jun,  with expertise in operations and maintenance
iv.    Professor Tsay Huel-Sheng,  with expertise in operations and maintenance
v.      Mr Kon Shinichiro,  with a specialty in power supply systems

SBS Transit used to enjoy economies of scale as the dominant player of the public bus business. With the loss of the Jurong West and Tampines packages, it has lost scale, while continuing to face rising cost pressures. As for rail business, they are never profitable. Both SBS Transit and SMRT have to depend on rail reliability incentives by LTA to make it a worthwhile venture.

The outlook is dimmed, as evident by its falling profits. The slide will continue, unless the Board/Mngt takes drastic actions to slash costs. As a unionised company, it will take some guts.
