[SINGAPORE] Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio delivered 23,231 vehicles in May, marking a 13.1 per cent increase year on year, the company said in a regulatory filing on Sunday (Jun 1).

 

This was, however, about 2.8 per cent fewer vehicles compared to Nio&rsquo s delivery of 23,900 vehicles in April.

 

Of the deliveries made in May, the company said 13,270 were from its premium smart EV brand Nio, 6,281 from its family-oriented smart electric vehicle brand Onvo, and 3,680 from its small smart high-end electric car brand Firefly. 

 

As at end-May, Nio&rsquo s cumulative deliveries reached 760,789 vehicles &ndash about 47 per cent higher than the 515,811 vehicles delivered as at May 31, 2024.

 

Firefly is the latest brand to join Nio&rsquo s portfolio, having officially launched on Apr 19, with deliveries in China starting later that same month. As part of its initial rollout, Firefly delivered 231 vehicles in April.

 

The launch of its Firefly brand follows the company&rsquo s weak performance in the fourth quarter, with a net loss of 7.1 billion yuan (S$1.3 billion) despite delivering a record number of vehicles in that period. This brought Nio&rsquo s net loss for the 2024 financial year to 22.4 billion yuan. 

 

Nio is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, with secondary listings on the Singapore Exchange and Hong Kong Exchange.

 

Its shares have fallen about 31.6 per cent over the past year, closing at US$3.54 on Friday.

SINGAPORE - Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio delivered 20,575 vehicles in November, a 28.9 per cent increase from the same month last year.

 

The latest figure was slightly lower than the 20,976 vehicles delivered in October.

 

Of the total, 15,493 vehicles were from Nio&rsquo s flagship premium EV line, while 5,082 came from its family-oriented Onvo brand.

 

As at Nov 30, 2024, cumulative deliveries stood at 640,426, the company said in a business update on Dec 1, adding that it recently celebrated its 10th anniversary on Nov 25.

 

&ldquo With its full stack, in-house developed technological capabilities, extensive nationwide power network, and unique user community, Nio has laid a solid foundation for future growth,&rdquo the company said.

 

Nio, listed in the United States, Hong Kong and Singapore, reported a net loss of 5.1 billion yuan (S$942 million) for the three months ended Sept 30, up from 4.6 billion yuan in the same period last year.

 

Third-quarter revenue declined 2.1 per cent to 18.7 billion yuan, down from 19.1 billion yuan a year ago, as vehicle sales dropped 4.1 per cent to 16.7 billion yuan from 17.4 billion yuan in the same period last year.

The last time the counter hit such levels was in January, when it traded above US$7.60

 

SHARES of Nio : NIO +17.36% shot up by as much as 21.9 per cent on Monday (Sep 30), following news that strategic investors will invest around 3.3 billion yuan (S$602.6 million) into its China unit Nio Holding Co, also known as Nio China. 

 

At 9.36 am, the Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturer counter rose US$1.36 or 21.9 per cent to a high of US$7.58 after 386,550 securities changed hands.

 

The last time the counter reached such levels was in January, when it traded above US$7.60.

 

No married deals were recorded in early trade, ShareInvestor data indicated.

 

Nio was up 17.4 per cent or US$1.08 at US$7.30 when the market closed.

 

On Sunday, Nio announced that its China unit would receive 3.3 billion yuan from strategic investors for newly issued shares. 

 

This comes on top of an additional 10 billion yuan that it would pump into its China unit&rsquo s new shares, bringing the total investment received by Nio China to around 13.3 billion yuan. 

 

The transactions reduce Nio&rsquo s holding in its China unit from 92.1 per cent to 88.3 per cent the remaining 11.7 per cent will be held by the strategic investors among other stakeholders. 

 

This injection comes amid the electric-vehicle maker&rsquo s expansion of its charging infrastructure and battery-swapping technology, which &ndash alongside research and development spending on non-auto areas such as semiconductors &ndash are part of its efforts to gain a competitive edge.

DUAL-CLASS shares of Nio : NIO 0% on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) rose sharply on Friday (May 31), ahead of the anticipated release of its unaudited first-quarter results.

 

This was in tandem with its recent bullish stock performance in the US and Hong Kong.

 

The Chinese electric-vehicle maker is primarily listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and has secondary listings in Hong Kong and Singapore.

 

As at 10 am on Friday, its shares on the SGX rose 10.8 per cent, or US$0.53, to trade at US$5.45.

 

The counter later eased to US$5.42 as at the midday trading break, up US$0.50 or 10.2 per cent, with 201,980 securities worth US$1.1 million traded.

 

Nio&rsquo s Q1 financial results, including its delivery data for May, are slated for release on Jun 6. 

The group in April reported a 134.6 per cent year-on-year surge in vehicle deliveries to 15,620 for the month, bringing its year-to-date figure to 45,673, up 21.2 per cent from the prior year.
