Let' s weigh the pros and cons, I' ll start with cons since it' s human instinct to want to find out the negatives first, Cons Earnings have been slightly down from last year. The reason being competition from similar competitors (you guys know which). Dividends have been reduced. Pros The company is rich in cash and very low in debt. This shows that they have a rather healthy balance sheet. According to Peter Lynch, this is the kind of company that many investors want to invest in. Why? It' s simple. With so much cash and so little debt, the company won' t go bankrupt in times of a recession. Besides, ain' t the majority of people speculating a crash coming around the corner? In a recession, people will choose to go with cheaper goods as cash is tight (any Economics 101 will tell you that). Thus, consumers from other competitors would flock to Super. They are still declaring dividends even though the earnings are marginally down. This proves that Super actually values their shareholders! Despite having a pretty rough year, they still declared dividends nonetheless. From the above, we can see that the company is still standing strong. No doubt that the stock price had slipped due to the recent decline in earnings but that' s just short-term. As I quote from Peter Lynch again, " many of us consider ourselves as long-term investor, until the next big drop or slight increase before we sell out as short-term" and " the company' s share price may be down but the company is actually doing fine, vice versa. It' s frustrating for the shareholders who watches the share price go up and down daily" . I believe this is just temporary. As long as the fundamentals of the company doesn' t change, I' ll be holding on to my shares. TL DR: Pros > Cons. |

(The author is a Reuters Breakingviews columnist. The opinions expressed are his own) By Peter Thal Larsen HONG KONG, Sept 12 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Short-sellers of Chinese companies are back, and shadier than ever. In the past few weeks, two anonymous groups have trained their critical sights on Tianhe Chemicals < 1619.HK> , a Hong Kong-listed group, and Nasdaq-listed 21Vianet . Executives have tried to dispel doubts about their financial statements while railing against mysterious critics. But they haven' t yet tried the most effective riposte to those betting on a lower stock price: buying more shares.

All the bad news is out, and whoever wants to sell have sold. Fund manager is nibbling at the stocks day by day for it' s portfolio.  As long as this carries on price can continue to see small increases I think. The next quarter results should give better direction on where share price would move for the rest of the year. |

Good.  There are some big buyers slowly nibbling away.    It may be that they view the value of the company far exceeds the share price. As the activity is very subdued, it could mean that it' s silently collecting the shares without wanting it to spiral upwards.

Bonus shares refers to those shares, which are issued by the company in a certain proportion for the existing shareholders. Company issues additional shares for their shareholders. When shareholders receive one bonus share with  one old shares, we  say that the company issues their bonus share into 1:1 ratio. While the isssue of bonus shares increases the total number of shares issued and owned, it does not increase the net worth of the company. Although the total number of shares increase, the ratio of number of shares held by each shareholder remains constant . This usually happens after a Company has made enough profits, thus increasing its employed  capital .Therefore, a bonus issue can be seen as a alternative to dividends. Bonus shares are issued by the company from its reserve ( Capital reserve or Revenue reserve / Retain Earning or General reserve). This processing is called as Capitalization of reserves as they issue their shares by reserves and transfer money into company&rsquo s equity capital. Company reserve is deducted by this amount and Equity share capital is added by this amount.

But don' t forget that you can buy double the number of shares now with the same amount of money too! E.g. $2.80 can buy u 1 lot before the split, now u can buy 2 lots... The main effect of the stock split i can see is that the effect of every bid up or down on one' s  portfolio value  has been doubled... =)

No worries about the comments on the spilt...i think what he means is the bonus issue...old share means he own the share before the bonus issues and new share means those who own share after bonus issues... the reasons why there is a bonus issue is because of the profitability have improved significantly and that prompted the bonus issues to reward all the shareholders...not the other way round |

Don' t forget they split the shares 1:1 recently and that means they have doubled the number of shares. All the profits they earn have not doubled but the number of mouths to feed have! If I am holding old shares I am ok as I hold both but for new punters it is different! Be careful when you decide to buy and weigh all pros and cons |
