Tritium water from the 1979 Three Mile Island accident in the United States was evaporated, and still required 10 years of preparation and three more years to complete.

A new chairman at Tepco, Takashi Kawamura, caused an uproar in the fishing community in April when he expressed support for moving ahead with the release of the water into pacific ocean.

The company quickly back pedalled, and now says it has no plans for an immediate release and can keep storing water through 2020. Tepco says the decision should be made by the government, because the public doesn't trust the utility

Naoya Sekiya, a University of Tokyo expert on disaster information and social psychology, said water from nuclear plant shouldn't be released till people are well-informed about basic facts psychologically is ready.

?A release only based on scientific safety, without addressing the public's concerns, cannot be tolerated in a democratic society,? he said. ?A release when people are unprepared would only make things worse

He and consumer advocacy group representative Kikuko Tatsumi sit on a government expert panel that has been wrestling with the social impact of a release and what to do with the water for more than a year, with no sign of resolution.

Tatsumi stalemate: Many people believe water is stored, it's not safe to release. They think Fukushima fish is not safe to eat.

The amount of radioactive water at Fukushima is still growing, by 150 tonnes a day.

Contaminated water keot growing, as it mixes with groundwater. After treatment, 210 tonnes is reused as cooling water, n remaining 150 tonnes is sent to tank storage. During heavy rains, the groundwater increases significantly, adding more volume.

Tepco owns the plant. To reduce flow, it has dug dozens of wells to pump out groundwater b4 it reaches reactor buildings and built an underground ?ice wall? of questionable effectiveness by partially freezing the ground around the reactors.

Last year. Govt suggested dilute water upto 50 times n release 400 tonnes daily to the sea - a process that would take almost a decade to complete

Reactors are damaged beyond repair, n cooling water must be constantly pumped in to keep them from overheating.

Japan firms used foreign trainees at Fukushima cleanup

An exclusion zone remains in place 7-years after Fukushima meltdown.

Four Japanese companies made foreign trainees to learn professional skills took part in decontamination work@Fukushima nuclear disaster.

The reports cited a Justice Ministry investigation, but the ministry declined immediate comment.

The reports are likely to revive criticism of the foreign trainee programme, which has been accused of placing workers in substandard conditions and jobs that provide few opportunities for learning.

The misconduct was uncovered in a probe by justice ministry conducted after a Vietnamese trainee was found in March to have participated in cleanup work in Fukushima, public broadcaster NHK said. China' s ' artificial sun' reaches 100 million degrees Celsius marking milestone for nuclear fusion

China' s Institute of Plasma Physics announced that plasma in their Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST).

Dubbed " artificial sun" reached a whopping 100 million degrees Celsius, temperature required to maintain a fusion reaction that produces more power than it takes to run.

To put that in perspective, the temperature at the core of the sun is said to be about 15 million degrees Celsius, making the plasma in China' s " artificial sun" more than six times hotter than the original.

News comes after China shocked science community with plans to launch an " artificial moon" bright enough to replace city streetlights by 2020.

Chinese officials have confirmed that the country' s first space lab is expected to fall into the Earth' s atmosphere in the latter half of 2017.

Sparking speculation that authorities have lost control of the 10.4 meter long module that weighs 8.5 tons.

Launched in 2011. Tiangong-1, China' s orbiting space laboratory was scrapped earlier this year after its functions failed following two years in space.

Currently intact and orbiting at an average height of 370 kilometers.

Indonesia reels from the carnage of yet another natural disaster, authorities are working on how they can prepare for the kind of freak tsunami that battered coasts west of Jakarta this month.

The Dec 23 tsunami killed around 430 people along the coastlines of the Sunda Strait, capping a year of earthquakes and tsunamis in the vast archipelago, which straddles the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire.

This time it was an eruption of Anak Krakatau volcano that caused its crater to partially collapse into the sea at high tide, sending waves up to 5m high smashing into densely populated coastal areas on Java and Sumatra islands.

During the eruption, an estimated 180 million cubic metres, or around two-thirds of the less-than-100-year-old volcanic island, collapsed into the sea.

From 380 meters high down to only 110 meters.

More than 1,558 dead with toll expected to rise

The death toll from Friday's 7.5-magnitude earthquake that triggered a tsunami has risen to 1,558, with scores more believed to be buried under collapsed buildings and homes.

The earthquake triggered a phenomenon called soil liquefaction, which turned the ground into a churning sea of mud and started sucking whole villages into earth like a blender, like a giant worm throwing huge houses up n sucking them into earth.

A 7.5-magnitude earthquake shook northern Sulawesi in Indonesia on Friday - Indonesia?s disaster management agency (BNPB).

The quake triggered a tsunami which caused waves as high as 6 metres (20 feet) to roll through the coastal city of Palu.

According to a BNPB official at least 50 people were trapped beneath the ruins of the Roa Roa Hotel in Palu city. In this video, rescuers are seen carrying a body from the mound of ruins.

More than 384 people have been confirmed dead after a tsunami triggered by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit an Indonesian city on Friday. The number is expected to rise. At least 540 have been injured, and 29 are listed as missing.

Waves up to 3m (10ft) high swept through Palu on Sulawesi island. A warming was lifted earlier.

Video on social media shows people screaming and fleeing in panic and a mosque among the buildings damaged.

Strong aftershocks continue to rock the city. Thousands of homes have collapsed, along with hospitals, hotels and a shopping centre.

Rescue efforts are under way, though hampered by a major power cut. The main road to Palu has been blocked due to a landslide, and a key bridge is out of action.

Powerful typhoon trami pummelled Japan's southern island of Okinawa Saturday (Sep 29), injuring at least nine, as weather officials warned the storm would rip through the Japanese archipelago over the weekend.

Typhoon Trami, packing maximum gusts of 216km (134 miles) per hour near its centre, was forecast to hit across to Japan mainland early Sunday and could cause extreme weather across the country into Monday.

Death toll from earthquake that rocked the Indonesian Lombok island a week ago has reached 436. Monday Aug. 5. Most of whom died in collapsing buildings.

It said damage to homes, infrastructure and other property is at least 5 trillion rupiah ($342 million), calling that a temporary figure that will rise as more assessments are made. The agency said rebuilding will cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

PEMENANG, Indonesia: A magnitude 6.2 aftershock rocked Indonesia's Lombok on Thursday (Aug 9), as official death toll from a powerful earthquake four days earlier jumped to 319.

Reuters witnesses reporting on the aftermath of Sunday's quake in the north of the island said buildings and walls that had already been weakened collapsed, and people ran out onto roads even as rocks tumbled down from hillsides.

"Our latest update is that 319 people died," said Indonesia's chief security minister Wiranto, adding that rescue efforts were ongoing and complicated by aftershocks.

The number forced from their homes in the disaster has soared to 270,000, national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said, with around 1,000 people severely injured.

Indonesia hit by THREE more HUGE quakes - Lombok tremors

A second powerful earthquake has struck Lombok and Bali this afternoon hitting a magnitude of 5.2. Residents are reporting tremors on both islands in Indonesia.

More then 142 people were died after massive earthquake struck Lombok in Indonesia, sending people screaming into the streets as powerful jolt destroyed hundreds of homes.

The 6.9 magnitude tremor was fairly shallow, striking just 18 miles underground, which caused catastrophic damage to thousands of buildings and triggered power cuts.

There have been more than 130 aftershocks since the quake hit on Sunday morning and a tsunami warning was also issued - although this was lifted after a few hours.

Barge 144-by-30 metre holds two reactors with two 35 megawatt nuclear reactors, similar to those used to power icebreaker ships.

The 21,000-tonne barge will be towed in summer of 2019 to port of Pevek, autonomous Chukotka region in Russia' s extreme northeast, 350 kilometres (217 miles) north of Arctic Circle. 5,000 live in Pevek, Russia' s northernmost town. Barge can produce enough electricity to power mean for 200,000 residents, far more than then the town need.

It will be primarily used to power oil rigs as Russia pushes further north into the Arctic to drill for oil and gas and needs electricity in far-flung locations.

In Singapore. Do we need this to power out home?. Some may say yes, some no n yet some maybe one day.

About 1.1 billion people in Asia, Africa and Latin America - 470 million in rural areas and 630 million slum dwellers in cities - were at risk among the world' s 7.6 billion people, it said.

Last week, study by University of Birmingham in Britain projected that the number of cooling appliances could quadruple by 2050 to 14 billion worldwide, driving a surge in energy consumption.

UN' s health agency says heat stress linked to climate change is likely to cause 38,000 extra deaths a year worldwide between 2030 and 2050.
