Smog suspected. Lung cancer in China rises, groups not normally susceptible http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/lung-cancer-in-china-on-rise-in-groups-not-normally-susceptible-smog-suspectedChinese health authorities are trying to figure out the reason for the rapid rise in a form of lung cancer that develops deep in the lung and is not associated with smoking. China has seen a sharp increase in the disease over the past 10 to 15 years, hitting groups traditionally not susceptible such as women and nonsmokers. Cancer Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, also the country' s National Cancer Institute. " It might be related to the long-term exposure to air pollution, particularly PM2.5," he said, referring to particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 microns or less. China' s top health authority has been watching people' s health in relation to air pollution since 2013, said the National Health and Family Planning Commission spokesman Mao Qun' an " We need more research over a longer time to figure out the long-term health effects of air pollution," he said. " Cancer is developed over a long period, not overnight." Latest cancer statistics from govt showed China recorded nearly 4.3 mil new cancer patients in 2015, and more than 730,000 of them had lung cancer, accounting for nearly 36% of world' s total Two major types of lung cancer - lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma . The latter is closely associated with smoking. Of newly detected lung cancer patients each year, the cases of adenocarcinoma - involving more females and non-smokers have exceeded that of smoking-related carcinoma, even though the smoking rate in China has not declined, Xue said, citing figures from the nation' s cancer registry. Ten to 15 years ago, squamous cell carcinoma took the lion' s share of all lung cancer cases, roughly 60 per cent, he said. " At that time, most of the sufferers were smoking males, who are at high risk." The incidence of lung cancer has surged in recent decades. For instance, in the 1960s, the incidence of lung cancer in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, stood at seven per 100,000 people. That surged to 70 per 100,000 in 2005, according to local health data. Some lung disease experts suspect the rise might be related to PM2.5, but more research is needed to know for sure. Xue said more government research funding and projects in the field are needed. Internationally, small-scale studies have associated air pollution exposure with lung cancer, but a direct link has not yet been confirmed with large, long-term studies, he added. Industrialised countries saw a rise in the proportion of adenocarcinoma before China, according to Xue, who said lung adenocarcinoma is now the most common type of lung cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma has decreased over recent decades in Western countries due to an ever decreasing smoking population, he added. |

http://womandailytips.com/the-14-fake-olive-oil-companies-are-revealed-now-avoid-these-brands/
It was found that even 7 of the biggest olive oil makers in the USA, mix their items with cheap oils to get more profits. Namely, one of the products we regard as healthiest and a remedy for longevity has been corrupted. Apparently, even 70% of olive oil sold in the U.S. stores is fake, as they have been cut with cheaper, inferior oils like canola and sunflower oil! This is similar to the 2008 practice in Italy. This meant seizure for 85 oil farms that mixed some percentage chlorophyll with sunflower and canola to the olive oil. The oil was mixed, colored, perfumed and flavored too, and these things made the Australian government investigate their oils. The results were awful. After that, not one brand named extra virgin olive oil got the 2012 certificate of approval. These scams made the University of California to study 124 imported brands of extra virgin olive oil and discovered that more than 70% of the samples did not pass the test. THESE ARE THE BRANDS THAT FAILED THE TEST: Carapelli Mezzetta Pompeian Mazola Primadonna Colavita Sasso Antica Badia Star Whole Foods Felippo Berio Safeway Coricelli Bertolli ON THE OTHER HAND, THE FOLLOWING BRANDS ARE TRUSTWORTHY: Lucero McEvoy Ranch Organic Corto Olive Omaggio Bariani Olive Oil California Olive Ranch Lucini Ottavio Cobram Estate Olea Estates Kirkland Organic HOW TO TEST OLIVE OIL: Additionally, you can also test the olive oil you have at home. You should put the bottle in the fridge for half an hour, and if it starts to solidify, it means that the oil is pure, as it contains a large amount of monounsaturated fat. On the other hand, if it does not solidify, it is fake. Yet, just to be sure, look for official governmental seals of approval on the label, like ?Australian Extra Virgin Certified? and ?California Olive Oil Council Certified Extra Virgin.? We really hope you find this article helpful and don?t forget to share it with your friends and family. Thank You. |

Legatum Institute. A London-based research institute released its 10th annual global Prosperity Index in November, a huge survey that ranks the most prosperous countries in the world. The organisation compares 104 variables to come up with its list, splitting those variables into nine subindexes. One of the big components of the ranking is how healthy a country?s people are. Health is measured by three key components by the Legatum Institute: a country?s basic mental and physical health, health infrastructure, and the availability of preventative care. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the countries that have the best scores in the Prosperity Index, and therefore rank as the world?s healthiest, are generally big, developed economies with large amounts of resources. Britain NHS pioneered free at the point of use healthcare globally ? misses out on this list, finishing 20th in the Legatum Institute?s health sub-index. Luxembourg is no-1. Nestled between Netherlands, France, and Germany, the wealthy nation of Luxembourg tops the Legatum Institute?s health sub-index. The country?s average life expectancy is 82. Singapore came in as no-2. A small city-state to make the top of the Prosperity Index?s health sub-index. Singapore?s 5.6 million citizens have an average life expectancy of 83.1 years old. |

Chinese counterfeiters have diversified from fake designer handbags to fruit, trying to pass off Chinese grown produce as Australian. Citrus Australia says the fraudsters are trying to cash in on high prices and rapidly growing demand, with about 18,000 tonnes of mandarins and oranges exported to China last year. Andrew Harty from Citrus Australia said spelling mistakes on labels and out-of-season availability make the falsified fruit stand out from the genuine article. " What is particularly alarming to us is where we see fruit that has been dipped in a dye and we know these dyes are quite toxic," he told Radio National Breakfast. " The colour is incredibly artificial, so it will be this glowingly deep orangey red colour." Mr Harty said another common sign of the counterfeits is that they often only dye the top layer of fruit in a box. Counterfeit fruit is being sold at wholesale mkts in China and also in other Asian markets. |

Stroke, a condition in which blood flow to the brain is interrupted, is one of the leading causes of death in Singapore. In many cases, loss of life could be avoided if the people around the sufferer were able to recognise the symptoms. Here&rsquo s how:
FAST  is an important acronym associated with stroke. It is a checklist of the most common warning signs, so when any of these signs are present, it is necessary to seek emergency treatment.
F-ace: Can the person smile? Is his or her eye or mouth drooping? Does one side of the face droop?
A-rm: Can the person raise both arms? Does one arm drift downwards? S-peech: Can the person speak clearly and understand what you say? Is his or her speech slurred or strange? T-IME: If the answer is yes to any of these questions, it&rsquo s time to call 995 and get the person to a hospital. &ldquo Having a single symptom means a 66% certainty of stroke, while having all three means it is 88% certain,&rdquo says Dr Tu Tian Ming, a consultant in the dept of neurology at the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) of S' pore. &ldquo Have early access to emergency hospital. Other symptoms of stroke are:
Different types of stroke
A stroke occurs when part of the brain gets damaged due to an interruption in its blood supply. This interruption could be because of a blockage or a leak in a blood vessel. When brain cells don&rsquo t receive essential oxygen and nutrients, they die. Delayed treatment, even for a few minutes, can cause millions of brain cells to die.
&ldquo Stroke symptoms depend on the size and location of the damaged area,&rdquo says Dr Tu.
There are two main types of stroke &ndash ischaemic and haemorrhagic. In ischaemic stroke, which is the most common, the blood supply is affected due to a narrowing or blockage in a blood vessel. In haemorrhagic stroke, a blood vessel bursts or develops a leak.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/16/health/ivg-reproductive-technology.html?_r=0
NEW YORK &bull Nearly 40 years after the world was jolted by the birth of the first test-tube baby, a new revolution in reproductive technology is on the horizon - and it promises to be far more controversial than in-vitro fertilisation ever was. Within a decade or two, researchers say, scientists will likely be able to create a baby from human skin cells that have been coaxed to grow into eggs and sperm, and used to create embryos to implant in a womb. The process, known as in-vitro gametogenesis or IVG, has so far been used only in mice. But stem cell biologists say it is only a matter of time before it could be used in human reproduction. With IVG, two men could have a baby by using skin cells from one to make an egg that would be fertilised by sperm from the other. Women with fertility problems could have eggs made from their skin cells, rather than go through the lengthy and expensive process of stimulating their ovaries to retrieve their eggs. " It gives me an unsettled feeling because we don' t know what this could lead to," said University of California, Davis, stem cell researcher Paul Knoepfler. " You can imagine one man providing both the eggs and the sperm, almost like cloning himself. You can imagine that eggs becoming so easily available would lead to designer babies."

http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/12/technology/germany-hydrogen-powered-train/index.html Train run on water. A reality -  Here' s the new technology works: In March, Germany conducted successful tests of the world' s first " Hydrail" -- a hydrogen powered, zero-emission train. " The new train is 60% less noisy than a traditional diesel train, completely emission free," said Jens Sprotte of Alstom, the French producer of the train. " Its speed and the possibility to transport passengers match the performance of a diesel train." " The only sound it gives off comes from the wheels and air resistance," Sprotte added. Here' s how the new technology works: The Hydrail uses the same equipment as a diesel train but substitutes hydrogen as its fuel source. Large fuel cells sitting on top of the train combine hydrogen and oxygen to generate electricity, which is then transferred to lithium ion batteries. Energy that is not immediately used can be stored for later use, increasing fuel efficiency. The train' s only emissions are steam and water, resulting in minimal impact to the environment. " It' s so clean you can breathe it in," said Stefan Schrank, the train' s project manager at Alstom. Related: India' s big move into solar is already paying off Five federal states in Germany have signed a letter of intent to purchase a total of 60 trains from the French firm. Each two-car train set requires a fuel cell and a 207 pound tank of hydrogen to supply it. The oxygen is supplied from the air around the train. The train can travel up to 500 miles per day on a single tank of hydrogen, carrying 300 passengers at a time. The first operational trains will roll out by the beginning of 2018, providing a green alternative to the 4,000 diesel trains currently operating in Germany. According to the EU, about 20% of Europe' s current rail traffic runs on diesel. The new train is ideally suited for short stretches of the European network that have not been converted to electric rails. Related: Elon Musk offers to fix Australia' s energy crisis in 100 days Germany is particularly interested in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. A recent German Environment Agency report said the country continues to emit the equivalent of 906 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year, tarnishing its reputation as a green energy pioneer. Kristina Juhrich of the German Environment Agency said last year' s emissions levels will make it difficult for the country to reach its climate target and reduce emissions by 40% in 2020. Alstom are hoping the train will turn a profit within its first couple years of operation. They hope the model will replace Germany' s fleet of diesel trains in five to 20 years. The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and the U.K., which have also expressed interest in the train. |

How Jackfruit Helps in Fighting Cancer
Jackfruit is an anti-cancer food, thanks to all its nutrients that have powerful cancer-fighting benefits, including: Phytonutrients Jackfruit has phytonutrients that have the ability to prevent the 1st stages of cancer cell formation. This particular fruit is actually recommended for folks who already have stomach ulcers, since it can help improve the condition and even fight its progress. Jackfruit is an anti-cancer food / PicHelp Saponins Saponins have been known for being anti-cancer agents. Study published in Journal of Nutrition back in 1995 showed saponins can prevent development of colon cancer. Another study also discovered saponins may have the potential to cause mitotic arrest in leukemia cells and may help cause remission. Saponins react to outside layers of cells that have cancer and they bind themselves with them to prevent further growth. Isoflavones and Lignans These two are nutrients known as phytoestrogens that bind to the receptors estrogens produce. Many studies, including one published by National Cancer Institute, have shown that these two nutrients can reduce the development of endometrial cancer. Study involved 500 women who consumed jackfruit and other sources of isoflavones and lignans versus the control group. The 1st group saw a significant reduction in their cancer risk. Antioxidants Jackfruit also contains antioxidants, which are compounds known to fight free radicals. They can help protect DNA of the cells, so they don?t get direct damage from the dangerous toxins. Antioxidants can also prevent mutations of the cells, which can lead to cancer. As if all those nutrients aren?t enough, jackfruit is also rich in fiber that helps in cleansing the colon and gastrointestinal tract. Can also help in reducing cancer risk, making jackfruit one of the best cancer fighters around. |
