Denmark  is ending its 400-year-old universal postal service, including letter deliveries and post boxes, by the end of 2025, focusing instead on parcel deliveries.

  • End of Letter Deliveries:
    PostNord, the joint Danish-Swedish postal service, will cease letter deliveries in Denmark on December 30, 2025, to concentrate on its parcel business.
  • Post Box Disappearance:
    Denmark' s 1,500 post boxes will start to disappear from the start of June 2025.
  • Reasons for the Change:
    Mail volumes have collapsed by 90% since 2000, with the rise of digital mail services.
  • Focus on Parcels:
    PostNord will switch its focus to parcel deliveries.
  • Private Operators:
    The government has promised that private operators will take over mail delivery.
  • Refunds for Stamps:
    Postage stamps bought this year or in 2024 can be refunded for a limited period in 2026.

 Alert Admin 		Agreed. The postal industry has been disrupted and consumers behaviour changed. It is just not realistic to expect the company to turn around and the best they could do is to pivot into e-commerce which they had done previously. Right now, wouldnt it be best that they just liquidate themselves and return to shareholders rather than trying to flog a dead horse? This reminds me of SPH few years ago and look at what happened to its media and remaining businesses today.

Even so, the reality is that this sunset industry will never be glorious again.
Fortunately,SingPost still has valuable assets which will be sold to return to shareholders,this is the only thing worth looking forward to.

Unless Singpost can grow FMH business further and use the profits from FMH to carry out share buy back or as full dividends to be paid out to shareholders, it is better to sell it off to whoever paying the highest and return all the profits from the sale back to Shareholders. Let the shareholders to decide to use the money to buy more Singpost shares or to buy any other stocks. All the profits belongs to all the Shareholders and let Shareholders to decide on 13 March 2025 !!

Retrenchment is costly, each long service employee might get 1-2 years of basic monthly pay lump sum. The effect of savings only come at least 1 year later, and the positions cut shall not be replaced if not still pay another salary after paying hefty retrenchment sum doesnt make sense.

PE can do anything without any consideration whether those retrenched got food on the table, Singpost may consider too much and dare not or would not do much to cut cost eg only 45 employees out of almost 5000 employees will be cut in the near future. Whether it is already very efficient or dare not trim any fat eg cut 5 to 10% of the workforce!!! No pain no gain !!!
