x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	3 Things That Investors Should Know About DBS Group Holdings Ltd Now If you are a current or prospective investor of DBS Group Holdings Ltd (SGX: D05) - one of the three big banks listed in Singapore - there are three important things that you should know about the bank at the moment: 1. It has been engaged in share buybacks recently. In fact, the bank has bought back a total of 2.4 million shares of itself on multiple occasions in December 2015 and January 2016 for a total sum of S $ 36.7 million. 2.DBS shares have fallen hard over the last 12 months as you can observe in the share price chart below. At their current price of S $ 13.62 each, the bank' s shares have fallen by over 30% from where they were a year ago.     3. DBS had just released its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings for 2015 yesterday and saw its net profit for the quarter jump by 20% to S $ 1 billion. Excluding one-off gains, the bank' s full-year net profit in 2015 had grown by 12% to S $ 4.32 billion. Why are the three things above important to note for investors? First, a company may buy back shares when its management perceives that the shares are undervalued. Of course, the appearance of buybacks alone in the case of DBS need not necessarily mean that the bank' s a bargain now. But, it could still be a prompt for investors to start digging deeper. Second, after declining from a price of around S $ 19.50 a year ago, DBS is trading at a multi-year low as well in terms of an important valuation metric, the price-to-book (PB) ratio. You can see this in the chart below, which illustrates the bank' s PB ratio since the start of 2011:   Source: S& P Global Market Intelligence DBS currently has a PB ratio of 0.86. Just as the share buybacks may be a prompt for investors to dig further, the company' s current low valuation relative to history could be another sign. Third, despite the gloomy outlook about the local banks that seem to be prevalent at the moment, DBS grew its profit in 2015. Given DBS' s profit growth, I can not help but wonder if the market may have been overly pessimistic on the bank, punishing its stock despite it having a strong business performance.

x 0   x 1  Alert Admin	regarding bank stocks i dont know if im just paranoid...but i think something is wrong and seems the smart moneys know something that we dont... not only singapore but many big banks around the world, particularly in europe, have had their shares severely heavily sold down since the start of the year.... and dbs despite record profits unable to move up much.. very suspicious...

" Singapore is not a basket case," he said at a results briefing on Monday, adding that the country has strong reserves and a robust financial system, and capital outflows are not as large as some hedge funds have made out. " The charitable view is that people are misinformed. The less charitable view is that people have an axe to grind," he said. The banks think bad loans from the region are contained, mainly because counter-party exposure is to the top-tier China banks. Greater China NPL ratios for DBS and OCBC are lower than their respective group NPL ratios. Both DBS and OCBC have stress-tested their portfolios at US $ 20 per barrel. Total income crossed the SGD 10 billion mark for the first time, rising 12% to  SGD 10.8 billion from higher net interest margin and broad-based non-interest income  growth. Return on equity rose from 10.9% to 11.2%. Asset quality was resilient. Specific allowances for loans rose slightly to 19 basis  points of loans. The non-performing loan rate was unchanged at 0.9% while allowance  coverage of non-performing assets remained healthy at 148%. DBS CEO Piyush Gupta said,..... " The fourth-quarter caps a strong year when total  income crossed SGD 10 billion for the first time. The consistency of our performance  through the four quarters reflects the quality of our earnings profile. The Board proposed a final dividend of 30 cents per share for approval at the  forthcoming annual general meeting. When it was hovering near low 13s i was quite skeptical, but now, much has changed: doubts about the revenue level are cleared, future prospects still look rather appealing (if you factor in the fact that this has tanked from low 20s to this). Nothing much to fear about, a bank share in the portfolio is always good.
