Yes, I foresee once PHV fares normalizes, a sizable portion of current passengers will be pushed to MRT/buses, a small portion will go back taxis. The whole market will get smaller.

Yup and when Grab/Uber decide to stop losing money, will the same number of people still take PHVs when the fares normalise? In the end all of them including CDG will have to compete for a smaller pie of biz.

Yes, it is a price war, and Grab/Uber is setting predatory pricing.
CDG's profit is not exorbitantly high and Uber/Grab is losing money.
Taxi fares in Singapore is one of the lowest in the first world country and the car price in Singapore is the highest in the first world country.
It is very clear.

Most passengers are interested in NON-FRILL rides that will take them SAFELY from point A to point B in the SHORTEST possible time and at the most AFFORDABLE cost.

I know bro, I am providing an analogy by comparing with budget airlines. you can' t expect SIA service when you only want to pay for AirAsia or Tiger fares.

I would like to share with you the cost of owning a car in Singapore, typically from $35 to $45 per day, and a decent wage for a driver (with all the risk involved) is about $25 to $40/hr. I would say you are getting a very good deal by taking taxi/PHVs.
Try owning a car and you will feel the pinch. Plus you must drive it too.

How is it possible to give good service if the providers are cutting fares and the drivers are getting the brunt of it? They used to earn $5k to 6k nett and now its reduced to $3k+ to $4k. Its akin to telling the budget airlines to compete both on LOWEST FARES and the BEST SERVICE. You are probably one of those passengers drivers complain about, want to take cheap pooling service but complain about multiple routes / drop offs. You are sharing the ride with other passengers, what do you expect? Do you think the driver will want to pick up a single pooling customer for $5 bucks? And just like the MRT, don' t drink and eat in their cars cause if you spill, are you willing to clean it up or pay the driver for the inconvenience? Why not you ask him if you can drink or eat in his car first? If you want SIA service, then are you willing to pay for that type of price? Ridiculous. If you are friendly enough to talk to the drivers, you will understand the situation they are in. Don' t only think in your point of view (ie: the customer is ALWAYS right).

Comfort is like SingPost. Old school, no hope. If I were to call the shot, replace the CEO and employ a senior exec from Uber or Grab to run the show. New school cannot be run by expired minds.

Thanks for the replies! Did not managed to get any shares though. While I hesitated, the price went up from 1.90.  Just wondering about what are the differences between Taxis, Uber and grab if they all become driverless cars.  For now, I think they are all the same (unless there is a price surge), I always go for the cheapest ride. I have been using either taxi, Uber or grab almost daily. But I hardly find much differences between them! Grab is usually more expensive than Uber/taxi usually but I managed to get a pair of Star Wars prescreening tickets using my rewards points, so I don&rsquo t mind taking grab just for the points unless it is a lot more expensive than Uber for the particular ride).  Just to rant though. Since the industry is so competitive, I wonder why there are no consistent good services. It seems like it is only just a price war between them. They hardly try to outdo each other in terms of service. (The most horrible experiences are always with grabshare/ubershare, where I had taken rides that detoured so much, I could have reached home twice as fast with the train. Now I do not even use the sharing service anymore. )  I have sat in taxi/PHV that provided sweets and magazine, and have friendly Drivers that offer great conversation/entertainment. But also I have personally been scolded before on a particular ride in grab, where the driver scolded me for sipping my cup of bubble tea during the ride. It is not as though I am going to dirty his car. And he could have told me politely instead of raising his voice. After a Long day at work, I certainly would not mind paying more to have a good ride back home.   Sorry for ranting, but I just wonder why they cannot all come up with an app that allows riders to keep a list of our favourite Drivers, or at least a filter that will enable us to pick only five star Drivers. I certainly would be loyal to a company that provides great consistent service, much like SIA! Do you guys think that one day, taxi/PHV will improve on their service and safety standards?

Selling discounted fuel to drivers is part and parcel of CDG ways to attract and retain drivers, I guess. CDG is still fundamentally a transport company.

CDG has been selling diesel to taxi drivers at a discount rate for as long as the company exists, for a few decades. In the last few years, it started selling discounted petrol to its new fleet of petrol-hybrid taxis. Now it is converting more kiosks from diesel only kiosks to dual-fuel (petrol and diesel) kiosks for its LCR's PHVs next year. It is a major source of revenue for its automotive arm.

Being an old school and a board stuffed with old men, One can bet that Comfort will be the last to adopt to changes, if that ever happen.
