Nothing sinister about this. Normal price fluctuations after a big run up. waiting for next big move in either direction

Seems to be stuttering despite the good market sentiments! Stuck at 3.18-3.22 range.  Some days it gets traded up but always come back to this level.

Top performing Reit. Yes it is certainly impressive and a $4 target price certainly helped! That is just 25% of the share price away. Well done, investors of Ascendas. You have set the trend for all other reits.

Market today is buoyed by the election sentiments and some results but A-reit' s run is nothing short of mercurial. Any other news that helped though?

The best now is to stay liquid, I feel. Because hard times are ahead. and income from all asset classes will fall sharply. May need to sell in order to raise cash for expenses because most people' s retirement income is going to fall below their expenses.

Morning, bros,..... SIA has not defaulted on her commitments,...and quite sure it won' t,.... not at least in the medium term. And Hyflux is really the odd one out, though the damage is beyond comprehension,... Depending on a person' s intentions for investing,.. well,.. take for example a retiree, if he is investing for income, then,... if the nestegg is big enough, even earning at current Singapore Savings Bond' s interest rates will also be sufficient for him to maintain an above level of standard of living, right ? However, for another nestegg of a lesser size, this investor will have to earn a higher return (hence, generally taking higher risks) to earn the same amt of income to support the same standard of living. The second person above would also need higher liquidity so that he can get hold of his funds if an opportunity presents itself suddenly. Whereas the first person in the above will always have investible funds ready-in-hand because the coupons he has been picking-up on a half-yearly basis has always been more than enough for him to spend,... creating a lot of leftovers ready to be deployed. So,... this first person would not need so much liquidity anymore. |

You have brought out a very important point on reits. Liquidity. And yes, you have learnt it the hard way liquidity risks in holding corporate bonds, especially in difficult times for a particular industry. I have better understood your aversion towards bonds. Think of those who invested in Hyflux. I certainly hope you will not have to be like Hyflux investors.

Bro,.. it' s hard to get out from bonds because you will be at the mercy of the intermediary.... you will have to ride it out and to hope that the issuer will not fall. Hence the quality of the bond as well as the issuer is important. This quality is highly decided by raings accorded by rating agencies. These ratings can chg overnight before we can sell the bonds. And if you go for a high-quality bond and issuer,... then your interest returns will be very low.

I hv bought a 250k bond that paid 5%.   Then the industry faced a crisis n bond price dropped to now worth half I choose to sell it.   Bonds are so illiquid that u hv no choice but to accept restructuring n dragged out tenure.   If the company goes belly up sure can get something back ... pennys on the dollar.   In a sense there is also concentration risks.   U buy when things seem fine but when it comes down to get out there is really no market to sell into, unless u want to take a loss. in contrast, those reits I hold are very liquid n getting in n out is not a problem.   As Long as a reit is a good quality n well run one the likes of Ascendas, the mapletrees, n continue to grow over time, short term volatility is not an issue.   Of course I am talking about holding them for years.   |

Yes, I do have bonds and bond funds too,... SGD250k and USD200k for SGD-denom and USD-denom ones respectively. But my experience says when the mkts drop, bond prces drop in tandem too, though not as much as the REITs. And,.... most noticeably was,.... if I have invested the 250k SGDs per bond into my REITs,.... I would have made more returns because my REITs have risen a lot more in prices compared to my bonds. I do understand and accept,... of course : bond prices will not appreciate much. I think,.... it all goes back to which REIT we choose to be with,... ' cos you are right too in this statement : REITS, may not return to the levels at which we bought. DYODD

I Removed a post earlier and replaced with this one, by omitting the link of a graph on the max recorded price movements of A17U. This link throws out the width of this writing panel ridiculously. Following was what I wrote earlier :- Tq bro,... If you are comparing against the ones who bought high, near to 3.54, then yes, certainly we are fortunate. But 3.54 is the All-Time High. Many transactions were done at prices betw 2.00 and 2.50. For a resonable safety margin, it would be best for investors to enter within this range or at even earlier prices,... Yes, there is no rush,... but as investors, for my personal circumstances, I would want to have best prices for highest safety margin.

Sure, there is no holy grail. But if you want stable income, go for bonds. They also get paid first in any interest payments and company wind ups. Corporate debt may fall, but as longas they do not go into default, it will go back to original face value. REITS, may not return to the levels at which we bought. DYODD

Bonds are not the holy grail.   Corporate debt may be the next thing to fall.   Sovereign debt pays far too little.

I advise you to buy bonds instead for income because these are fixed.  Reits dividends are not fixed and can vary widely.

We buy reits for income n if price drops to a delicious level where the yield is way more than 5% investors of all stripes will flood in.   Rebuilding my core reits position n bought at 3.04 n then 2.90.   If it drops to next support 2.81 will b buying more.   No need to look at reits on a daily basis.

In fact late buying is now an advantage. All the best to late buyers. There is really no rush to enter this market. Otherwise there is another stampede and then risks another one in the opposite direction...
