We believe the conclusion of this would remove the overhang of kitchen-sinking, paving way for steadier recovery ahead. STM is also reportedly in direct negotiations with Petrobras for P-84 and P-85 FPSO contracts, which valued at S$4bn each, if finalised will be a boost too share price. Reiterate BUY and TP S$0.18. Elimination of overhang. STM made net loss of S$261m in FY22 and S$264m in 1H23 due largely to merger expenses and contracts provision. There had been concerns/uncertainties on further asset write-downs, which weren?t addressed in 1H23. The closures of non-core assets and inventory write-down are expected to improve STM?s productivity, optimise its cost structure and reduce cash operating expenses going forward. Separately, STM is reportedly in direct negotiations with Petrobras for P-84 and P-85 contracts as the only other competitor China Oil Engineering Corporation (COOEC) had to give up the deal due to local content constraints. The news is unverified, if true, STM could well be winning both the FPSO contracts worth S$4bn each. Petrobras had earlier guided preference to have two yards these contracts and the award, which was slated for end 2023, has been slowed by the complexity of contracts. We had expected STM to win at least one of the two FPSO units and the finalisation of the contract will be a near term catalyst for STM.
