$NutryFarm(AZT.SI) If you are interested in the durian trade between Thailand and China, do read this research in 2018.

At the start, it states " In the last five years or longer, exports of Thai durian has been increasing consistently. Although other fruit exported from Thailand also travels in the same direction, durian is the outstanding fruit dominating the China market."

China' s taste for Thai durian unabated by COVID-19 https://news.cgtn.com/news/2021-02-28/China-s-taste-for-Thai-durian-unabated-by-COVID-19-YfxufMymre/index.html Chinese people' s big appetite for durian has been noted again as new data shows they purchased 575,000 tons of fresh durian from Thailand in 2020. That amount of durian was worth 14.7 billion yuan (about $2.3 billion), 78 percent up compared with last year, according to the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The ministry also said that over 90 percent of the fresh durian sold in China was imported from Thailand in 2020. Known as the " king of fruits," the durian is distinctive for its prickly outer shell and a strong odor and a taste combines a sweet flavor and a creamy texture. The fruit can grow as large as 12 inches long and six inches in diameter. It typically weighs two to seven pounds. Its sulphur compounds mean you smell it long before you see it. For people who love the smell, it' s a delicacy, while for those who hate it, it' s something they will never try. The smelly fruit, although popularly consumed in Asia, is banned in hotels and on public transport in many countries across the continent. Chinese people love the durian so much that the fruit has been added into desserts and dishes. Cakes and tarts with fresh durian pulps are very popular among Chinese customers. Some others are more creative as they produce durian pastry, durian fried rice and even durian hot pot. |

http://tubinvesting.blogspot.com/2021/03/2021-strategy-series-nutryfarm-azt.html?m=1.. Based on the article,  the contributions of the durian biz will lower NutryFarm' s PE to a low single digit....and this is just trading and distribution... Once they venture into other parts of the supply chain of the durian trade...under the leadership of CEO Cheng Meng who is highly experienced in this trade....i believe there is strong impetus for growth moving forward... Again...pls do your own DD.. |

Thailand exported a record-breaking USD2.51 billion worth of durians to China in 2020. According to customs data, Thailand&rsquo s durian exports to China in 2020 displayed a large increase in value and a small decrease in quantity. Over the course of the year, Thailand exported a record-breaking $2.51 billion worth of durians to China, an increase from the $1.70 billion worth of durians exported the previous year. At the same time, the export volume fell from 604,000 tons to 576,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.6%. The explosive increase in the durian export value is thus mainly attributable to a substantial increase in unit price.  https://www.producereport.com/article/thailand-promotes-covid-free-durians-stabilize-chinese-market |

Thailand Government is even helping the industry to expand to support the relationship with China!

Meanwhile, Alongkorn Polabutr, adviser to the agriculture and cooperatives minister Chalermchai Sreeon, has confirmed plans for expanding both local and international markets for the country&rsquo s fruit industry.

The National Thailand reports the fruit board has earmarked 492m baht (US$16.4m) for increasing sales channels for fruit growers as well as launching promotional campaigns.

Reports suggest the fruit board is also planning to link up with the Chinese rail link via Laos as well as link up with markets in South Korea, Russia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Sharing this info found online:  Durian season in Thailand starts in March every year and ends somewhere in December. If that seems surprisingly long, that&rsquo s because Thailand is the world leader in durian exports. Whereas durian in other countries is only in season for 3-4 months, Thailand can produce durians almost all year round! Not for no reason are Thai durians considered the world&rsquo s best. We harvest the fruits at 75-80% ripeness, thus allowing them to fully ripen during their long journey overseas.  |

Singapore, 17 March 2021 &ndash NutryFarm International Limited (&ldquo NutryFarm&rdquo or the &ldquo Company&rdquo , and together with its subsidiaries, the &ldquo Group&rdquo ), is pleased to announce that the Company&rsquo s wholly owned subsidiary, Global Agricapital Holdings Pte. Ltd. (&ldquo GAH&rdquo ), has entered into two binding purchase agreements with Royal Farm Group Co., Ltd (&ldquo RFG&rdquo ) and Thung Thang Thong Co., Ltd. (&ldquo TTT&rdquo ).

It is also agreed that RFG and TTT shall guarantee the quantity of goods shipped from Thailand and exercise strict quality control based on the requirement of the logistics partner as well as during transportation and warehousing.

Led by the Group&rsquo s CEO, Mr. Cheng Meng, an industry veteran in the durian industry, the Group has entered into various agreements to sell over 1,480 containers of fresh durians from Thailand to major Chinese fruit importers since December 2020. The total contract value of these agreements is estimated at approximately RMB 962.0 million as announced on 13 February 2021.

According to data from China Customs, China&rsquo s imports of fresh and frozen durians in the first half of 2020 reached US$1.62 billion, corresponding to a 73.5% year-on-year increase and almost reaching
the US$1.82 billion imported during the whole of 2019. In the first half of 2020, China&rsquo s imports of fresh durians reached US$1.52 billion, corresponding to a 75.7% year-on-year increase.

Mr. Cheng Meng (程 勐 ), Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of NutryFarm, commented, &ldquo China&rsquo s demand for durians has remained strong despite the COVID-19 pandemic and Thailand is the only country that can export fresh durians to China.

Specialised knowledge, industry experience and network are required in the durian trade, particularly when it comes to the cross-border trade of fresh produce, hence there are significant barriers of entry in this industry.

With China&rsquo s durian supply relying almost entirely on imports, we believe that the growing demand from the Chinese market can provide us with significant opportunities.&rdquo

$NutryFarm(AZT.SI) Q4: " In recent years, durian prices in China have been rising. A box of 5 pieces fetches the wholesale price of 1,000 yuan. Is this a good thing for Thai durians? Does this show the value of durians? From a long-term perspective, is this price sustainable, and what led the price to be so high?"
Shen Ling: The rising prices are mainly a result of short supply. As I mentioned earlier, it takes 5 years for durians to start bearing fruit, so the current pricing pressure needs time to relieve. Moreover, the production last year was quite large, and the staged harvest period was long, so the market price failed to drop.

SOUNDS LIKE THE DURIAN PRICE WILL CONTINUE TO BE STRONG!

This is an article in Nov 2019. Not sure if things have changed. But this is an interesting point in this CNA article.

Thailand is the ONLY country allowed to export fresh whole durians directly to mainland China, thanks to a 2003 trade agreement. Of its annual output of around 600,000 tonnes, 70 per cent last year went to the Chinese market.
