The Fate of The Tech Bubble Is In The Hands Of Just One CompanyWith the Nasdaq sitting at new highs having finally eclipsed the previous record of 5,048 set in March of 2000 and with consumers  not-so-eagerly awaitingtheir chance to get in on the supposed wave of the wearables future by purchasing their very own Apple Watch,  we learn that the fate of the tech bubble now rests entirely on the shoulders of Tim Cook because as FactSet notes, " blended Q1 Y/Y EPS growth for the Information Technology sector is 0.7% [but] excluding Apple, the blended earnings growth rate for the sector would fall to -5.1%.&rdquo That rather disconcerting statistic makes this the scariest chart in the world for tech investors:
And as it turns out, it' s not just the tech space. Y/Y EPS growth for the entire S& P 500 is expected to come in at -2.8% &mdash excluding Apple knocks more than a full percentage point off the already negative results:  " The blended earnings decline for the entire S& P 500 is -2.8%. Excluding Apple, the blended  earnings decline for the S& P 500 would increase to -3.9%." In other words, the market better hope there are a lot of these people out there:

Dow +0.12%  18,080.14   /  +21.45 Nasdaq +0.71%  5,092.09   /  +36.03 S& P +0.23%  2,117.69   /  +4.76 Tech triumvirate propels Nasdaq, S& P to record highs The Nasdaq Composite and S& P 500 chalked up record high closes on Friday, propelled by strong results from tech behemoths Google, Amazon and Microsoft. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.71 percent to end at 5,092.09, its second straight record high close. The S& P 500 rose 0.23 percent to a record high close of 2,117.69 points, barely above its previous high of 2,117.39 set on March 2. The S& P had hit an intraday high of 2,120.92. The Nasdaq earlier reached 5,100.371, the highest since its intraday record of 5,132.52 in March 2000 that marked the peak of the dot-com bubble. &ldquo This chapter that the Nasdaq is writing is more suggestive that it' s a market that, while still technology-weighted, is much more mature," said Steven Baffico, chief executive officer at Four Wood Capital Partners in New York. " The companies in it reflect that, companies like Cisco and Microsoft.&rdquo Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Starbucks accounted for the bulk of the Nasdaq' s rise on Friday. The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI closed up 21.45 points, or 0.12 percent, to 18,080.14. The S& P 500 .SPX gained 4.76 points and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC added 36.02 points. For the week, the S& P gained 1.8 percent, the Nasdaq gained 3.3 percent and the Dow added 1.4 percent. " This is a case of the equity market looking a little bit forward to oil being less of a drag going forward, and that earnings in the second half will be better than they are now," said Anthony Valeri, an investment strategist for LPL Financial in San Diego. While markets are at record highs, March-quarter earnings of S& P 500 companies are expected to dip 1.3 percent, with revenues dropping 3.5 percent as the dollar hurts U.S. multinationals and low oil prices affect energy companies, according to Thomson Reuters data.  Wall Street may get new clues on the timing of an interest rate hike when the Federal Reserve issues a statement following its two-day meeting on Wednesday. NYSE advancers outnumbered decliners 1,532 to 1,426, for a 1.07-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq, 1,456 issues fell and 1,246 advanced About 6.2 billion shares changed hands on U.S. exchanges, on par with the daily average for the month to date, according to BATS Global Markets.   |

Market Preview Singapore stocks to open higher as Nasdaq tops dot-com-era highApril 24, 2015 : 7:50 AM The Singapore market could open higher this morning. The Nasdaq Composite climbed to the highest level in 15 years and US stocks shrugged off mixed earnings and disappointing manufacturing data from China. Oil rose to a four-month high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 20.42 points higher at 18,058.69. The Nasdaq Composite closed 0.4% at a record 5,056.06 for the first time in 15 years. The Standard & Poor' s 500 Index ended 0.2% higher at 2,112,93. The euro rose on speculation that Greece and its creditors will reach a deal to receive aid payments. Oil jumped 2.8% to settle at $57.74 in New York. Last evening, Singapore shares succumbed to profit-taking after rising for most of the session. The Straits Times Index settled 0.2% higher at 3,502.75, off an intraday high of 3,517. Decliners outnumbered gainers 277 to 195. Some 1.58 billion shares worth $1.23 billion changed hands, compared with 1.79 billion shares worth $1.18 billion on Wednesday. Here are some stocks that could move the market this Friday morning. Great Eastern Holdings reported a 5% fall in 1Q15 earnings to $220.5 million from $231.6 million in 1Q14 due to the absence of a one-off gain of $31.9 million from the sale of part of the group&rsquo s stake in a China JV. Excluding the one-off gain, earnings for 1Q15 was 9% higher on better performance of the insurance business and higher profit from investments in shareholders' fund. Great Eastern closed 4 cents lower at $24.65 yesterday. Hong Leong Finance  saw a 7.8% rise in earnings to $15.6 million for its 1Q15 ended March, from $14.4.08 million a year ago. Net interest income and hiring charges rose 5.5% to $38.3 million from $36.3 million a year earlier. Fee and commission income rose 39.6% to $3.6 million, while profit from operations rose 9.5% at $18.9 million. Hong Leong Finance closed 1 cent higher at $2.64. China Aviation Oil (Singapore) Corp (CAO) saw net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015 (1QFY15) fall 27.01% to US$14.4 million ($19.4 million) from US$19.7 million a year ago. The group said the decline in income was due to the decrease in gross profit due to lower oil prices. Revenue for the period came in at US$2.08 billion, representing 48.3% lower as compared to US$4.03 billion in 1QFY14. The lower revenue was led by the decline in oil price as well as lower trading volume. CAO closed half a cent or 0.6% higher at 88.5 cents. Sheng Siong Group reported a 12.1% rise in 1Q earnings to $14.1 million from $12.5 million a year ago. Revenue increased 4.6% to $198.4 million in 1Q largely due to new stores in Penjuru and Block 506 Tampines Central and comparable same store sales growth. Sheng Siong closed 1 cent higher at 81.5 cents yesterday. GMG Global , the producer of natural rubber, returned to profitability in 1QFY2015 with earnings of $0.16 million despite a decline in revenue to $150.7 million from $224.9 million in 1QFY2014. As a result of the group&rsquo s management measures, cost of sales fell 35% to $133.5 million from a year ago, mitigating the 33% decline in revenue. Meanwhile, gross profit margin rose to 11.4%, the highest attained in the last two years. GMG closed flat at 7.7 cents yesterday. |

Dow +0.11%    18,058.69   /  +20.42 Nasdaq +0.41%  5,056.06   /  +20.89 S& P +0.24%    2,112.93   /  +4.97 Nasdaq sets closing record The Nasdaq Composite, the U.S. market index most closely associated with technology stocks, closed at an all-time high on Thursday, surpassing a 2000 record set just before the dotcom crash. Its new record close of 5,056.06 capped a slow, unsteady climb since it touched a 2002 low of 1,114.11, that spanned an economic recession, the rise of biotech and social media and the explosive growth of mobile phones that has helped make Apple Inc (AAPL.O) the most valuable company in the United States. The Nasdaq traded as high as 5,073.091 on Thursday, led by shares of Apple, which has been among the biggest positive influences on the index in recent years. The index' s last record close of 5,048.62 was hit on March 10, 2000. The benchmark S& P 500 index .SPX also set an intraday high, but closed shy of a new record. Rapid growth in biotechnology companies such as Gilead Sciences Inc (GILD.O) and social media firms like Facebook Inc (FB.O), driven by the popularity of mobile computing, also helped lift the Nasdaq to its current levels. Strategists say there is still room for the Nasdaq to rise. " Now that it' s making a new high, I don' t think it' s just going to stop. It has the potential to go up, absent some external event that I can' t predict. I think the companies look as though they ought to power through this environment," said Walter Price, senior portfolio manager and managing director of the AllianzGI Global Technology fund in San Francisco. In 2000, " a lot of the high-growth companies were selling at 200 or 300 times next year' s earnings. This is nothing like that. This is a whole different world versus 2000." On Thursday, shares of Gilead were up 1 percent at $105.21, while Facebook, which late Wednesday posted quarterly revenue that missed analysts estimates, was down 2.6 percent at $82.41. Shares of Apple were up 0.8 percent at $129.67, while Google Inc (GOOGL.O) was up 1.5 percent at $557.46. They are the two top components by market cap in the Nasdaq. Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O), which was the top component in March 2000, is now third, followed by Facebook. The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI rose 20.42 points, or 0.11 percent, to end at 18,058.69, the S& P 500 gained 4.97 points, or 0.24 percent, to 2,112.93 and the Nasdaq Composite added 20.89 points, or 0.41 percent, to 5,056.06. After the close, Nasdaq 100 e-mini futures NQc1 jumped as Google, Microsoft and Amazon.com (AMZN.O) reported results. Google shares were up 3.7 percent after the bell, while Microsoft was up 3.1 percent and Amazon was up 7.4 percent. The Nasdaq shed 78.4 percent of its value from the 2000 peak to its 2002 low 31 months later. From the March 2009 trough to today' s record, the index gained 300 percent. The Nasdaq Composite' s market capitalization is $8.2 trillion, compared with a $19.5 trillion market cap for the S& P 500, according to Thomson Reuters data. The Nasdaq' s market cap was at $6.6 trillion in March 2000.     " It shows the strength in technology and biotechnology and the M& A going on in both those areas, but especially in biotech," said Tim Ghriskey, chief investment officer of Solaris Group in Bedford Hills, New York. Though the Nasdaq is heavily associated with technology, the S& P 500 technology sector .SPLRCT is actually down about 21 percent since March 10, 2000, according to S& P-Dow Jones Indices analyst Howard Silverblatt. On Thursday, eight of the 10 major S& P sectors were higher. Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by 2,039 to 956, for a 2.13-to-1 ratio on the upside on the Nasdaq, 1,659 issues rose and 1,061 fell, for a 1.56-to-1 ratio favoring advancers. About 6.6 billion shares changed hands on U.S. exchanges, compared with the daily average of 6.2 billion for the month to date, according to data from BATS Global Markets.   |

Noon Market Singapore shares retain gains as Asian markets rise on China stimulus hopes  Gains in most Asian markets kept Singapore shares higher, with investor sentiment underpinned by hopes that China will introduce more stimulus measures after a closely-watched private survey pointed to continued weakness in the country' s manufacturing sector. The flash HSBC/Markit Purchasing Managers' Index fell to 49.2 in April from 49.6 in March. A level below 50 indicates contraction. Mapletree Commercial Trust (MCT) declined 2.1% to $1.60, a day after it reported March-quarter results. While the results were broadly in line with analysts' expectations, the stock was downgraded by several broking houses on valuation grounds. " MCT is the best-performing REIT and has risen 16% year to date, making it one of the lowest yielding REITs currently," said Credit Suisse, which downgraded the stock to " neutral" from " outperform" . It has a price target of $1.66. Chiwayland International fell 20.9% to 13.6 cents, extending recent steep losses. The China-based developer was queried yesterday by SGX for the big fall in its share price. It replied that it was not aware of any reason. Cosco Corp rose 2.7% to 58 cents after the company clinched a contract worth US$95 million to convert a vessel into a floating, production, storage and offloading vessel.   |

All of the 10 major S& P 500 sectors rose, with the tech index gaining 1.09 percent, propelled by Visa and MasterCard. Visa ended 4.07 percent higher at $68.01 after hitting a record high of $69.98, while MasterCard closed up 3.91 percent after China said it would open up its market to foreign firms for clearing domestic bank card transactions. McDonald' s surged 3.13 percent after it said it was working on a plan to reverse its shrinking sales. Major tech earnings on tap for Thursday include Amazon.com , which trades at over 400 times earnings, as well as Microsoft and Google . Yum Brands ended 3.95 percent higher after the restaurant operator said late on Tuesday it was recovering from a meat scare in China and expected a strong year-end finish. Facebook Inc posted its slowest growth in quarterly revenue in two years and its stock fell 2.1 percent in extended trade. It is happening every day, whether is a small profit n or even a lost. It can happen to well experience n deep pocket  players, worst still for new novice players. Every now n than....some loss to  some who win, some can loss more  n some less...At the end of the day. BBs tend to move faster with huge stakes, rather then  to commit huge amount of money n get stuck. U think??. They are  also human n don like to get stuck. just like us retail small players.
