Before closing, CLI was trading at $3.54/5.   One group of nut balls disposed more than 6 million shares of CLI at $3.45 about 10 cents lower at a loss of $600K Why would a normal person with sensible thinking do that?   |

CLI first ever FY result to be out soon, possibly in a couple of months time. If I remember correctly, CFO Andrew did mention the focus of CL -> CLI to be on growth. That said, I hope and I believe the CLI management able to balance things out.. reasonably attractive div. payout and room for growth.

I think CLI' s 30% payout ratio is a good balance. They still need to reinvest for growth, yet they offer some yield to investors as they grow.  REITs have a much higher payout ratio of at least 90%. But because they retain so little profits for reinvestment, they need to keep raising capital via rights and placements in order to grow.  |

I think that is the reason why precisely Singapore stocks behave in this way, dividends driven and range bound. And why the bulk of my investments are in the US. Singapore companies got to change if they wanted to attract overseas investors. I think CLI is leading the pack because they are innovative and are willing to change. I believe the current leadership in CLI is doing the balancing act of managing dividends, ROE and reducing interests on loan. The massive share buy back already telling you what they intend to do.    |

Me shortsighted? I think you are the one who' s shortsighted.Read my post again, I held the shares since the days of DBSLand ah, albeit trading variously along the way. Does that look like someone who' s mercenary? Anyway my post to Chee Koon was made in a lighthearted way, in view of what I heard some coffee whispers of the possible dividends we' ll be getting. These uncles don' t anyhow quote a number for fun. As for your assertion that dividends is not important, let me be brief. This is Singapore, where everyone, funds, institutions, retailers, retirees, coffee shop uncles breathe dividends.... Berkshire cannot even be in the same conversation. If CAP for example doesn' t pay any dividends, as you ridiculously suggested,   it will be forever be a stag stock, won' t even move, let alone give you the phenomenal gains you dreaming. I said, in view of any lack of earthshaking news, a good dividends payout remains the only catalyst for the price to cheong. Give us what the market wish for, or what the black market wants, and I am sure the price will rocket... $4 and beyond as promised. Meanwhile , please do recommend me a stock HERE, that didn' t pay any dividends and has capital gain mutiply many fold, many  times over the years, because really, if there is one, I must have be living in a cave, and I owe you deeply an apology for it. well, this is not so brief after all..... too much steam to let go...

Looks like you 2 guys are talking with Chee Koon in a coffee shop having teh tarik.    Actually looks like a beer session with you two having one too many.  lol... Looking at the transformation exercise from CLand to CLI, it has been very meticulous by the management.  Their presentations on the transformation have been one of the best that I have seen by a listed company.  Chee Koon and his money honcho, Andrew have been very forthcoming in where they want to take CLI.    Thus, in my opinion, CLI will give better dividends than when it was CLand.    They want CLI to succeed.    Their share buybacks also speak volumes.

I prefer that they don' t give out dividends at all and redeploying all these capital for investment growth. I can understand as a retiree you need the dividends for income but for the stock price to cheong, it needs to grow. If the stock price went down because of less declared dividends and because you dumped, I will buy more. FYI, Berkshire Hathaway never give out a single cent of dividend throughout its history. If you have invested $1000 in 1964, it would be worth a cool $26.6 million now. Don' t be short sighted, wait for the big one. If you want dividends, you can always invest in REITS.

No that' s not what I meant and that' s not what I am only aim for. Been having CAP since the days of DBSLand... after calculating the dividends that I earned, the free CCT shares, the rights issue, and selling some when it reached $7, and the recent cash distribution and CICT shares, my entire shareholding' s are actually more than free.   Even when I been using half load for trading and half load for safe keeping, I can never lose on this one. I just being greedy and aiming CAP to go higher, and I have the black market on my side, who claim if things go their way, it would be a five dollar stock  So, I am really warning Chee Koon, for the sake of others and on behalf of the black uncles . If he sting on the dividends like that maid abuser CEO, the market will punished him. As it stands without any earth shattering news, the only reason the price will soar to $4 and beyond would be dividends as a cheong catalyst. Market eyesight and preception is like that one.

Dividend is not tax efficient and i prefer the share buyback. If you are looking for dividiend, not sure CLI is the right choice for you. I rather Chee Koon saves on the dividend and bring on huge capital gains for us and that' s why i am vested.

I have to warn Chee Koon, now that he is working out the sums, if you give me less than 15 cents, I m going to dump my shareholding and won' t be talking about your stock any more.... Already your Ascott has already come out and hinted that it' s results is going to be very good. So please break away from your stereo type mentality of being stingy with your dividends and constantly sticking to your pathetic 12 cents even when the company is doing good. I guarantee you if you behave like that, the market will react adversely and you may never see again

The general sentiments is that markets are fleeing because of speculation of interests hike which various analysts are speculating that it would happen earlier than expected, perhaps something like as early as within two weeks time.... but some people really never read or research or analysis properly enough. If you watch CNA news alone, it has been repeated many times, that here in Asia most companies use less debt funding than other countries like US or Europe. So would not be affected very much in interest rates hikes, and even if there are as many as four rounds, as many analysts expected, the interest rate would still hover around only one percent, not really a life threatening situation... will REITs be affected by interest hikes very much?... as I said, I m hopeless in articulating in technical terms, so perhaps you can watch this video, a couple of months old, but the points may still be relevant, depending on how much you believe in it.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiaLxOW7VQo

Based on statistics, the retail investors have sold off net $37m worth of shares last week.   The institutions have been buying.   It is most likely that many of these retail investors are getting out of CLI that caused the shares to dropped further today to $3.56.   They are the real losers because I think a group of these retailers lacked patience and therefore short sell CLI today to make a quick profit.   | ||||

Oic.....  forget about the noises, there will always be envious people, and paper tigers (or fat pigs) here making nonsensical assumptions. Or parroting rookies trying to insult uneducated coffee shop uncles with their copycat or Googled market knowledge,  hope you have a bond-tiful, I mean boun-tiful, year ahead!

Thanks for taking the time to type the analysis differentiating investment instruments.  The analysis, though not proffered in your signature " coffee shop" style that can be hilarious, is nonetheless insightful. I shall refrain from divulging my OCBC bond capital outlay lest I be misconstrued as flaunting my wealth and risk being attacked like in the Wilmar share forum where a woman has been relentlessly attacking me.  All I can say is that I' m quite happy with the annual coupon payout of US$8,500.  This particular bond is maturing in 2024 but I' ve no intention of selling it, which I can if I want to, through my financial advisor. The " bro" which described the Capitaland demerger as a " godsend" was me but I' m not a bro. Once again, thank you Lobster and may 2022 brings you happiness, health, wealth and success !

The Capitaland share price dipped 30% in 10 years. 20 years average DPU about 2%. After the merger of  DBS Land (DBSL) and Pidemco Land  in 2000,  the company focuses on Singapore and China as its core markets.  Till last year they decouple its hopeless development projects.    If you had bought a property 20+ years ago (instead of invested in Capitaland), the rental you collected is more than the dividend issued by Capitanland and the capital gain more than 100% by now.      |
