Street hailing is already history. Ask the taxi drivers how many street jobs they get a day. They will tell you one or two. Street hailiing is the most important modus operandi of taxi driving because it brings a out 'one up one down' earning for the drivers. Where are these people who used to flag for taxis in the past? Let me tell you Guru. --- They book Grab.
See for yourself, taxis have to run backnd d forth taxi stands to get their passengers. More than 50% of their driving time their cabs are empty. How many of them get Zig booking jobs? Just see for yourself Guru how many are wearing the 'on- call' signs and speeding -- nobody can bluff you. |

Ride hailing will cannibalise street hailing. Hence CDG zip needs to capture critical market share of ride hailing.
While the number of people trying out Zip is high (see App Store reviews), it seems many are frustrated by the quality of the app which crashes often. CDG needs to prioritize the improvement of Zip app to retain users. |

6,500 is a very ugly number considering that this Zoom Bee was the World's biggest taxi company before. It has already sold its taxicompanies in London and Vietnam. What happens in China now? Even if it avoid revealing the truth, we can just ask any visitor from there or check with our contacts there to see who still remember what a taxi is, we will know the situation.
This show that all its effort to save its taxi business has flopped. The so-called ride-hailing is rubbish looking at the number of blue and yellow colour cabs queuing everywhere particularly at the airport. Which PHV driver dare to rent car from this Zoom Bee if he cannot get booking jobs from Grab?

Understand that it is gone. Normally sale of assets (including profits) will be utilised to drive growth engines but I suspect with the strong balance sheet CDG has.. it could support this 100% special distribution.
As what entropy mentioned about CDG being way off pre-covid. Totally agree.. and with that stock prices also will not rocket as well... but based on recent results, I think it is fair for the near to medium term stock price to range between 1.5 to 1.6 (I hope).

LTA only has the registered numbers of taxis and not leased- out numbers. So if your numbers are from the LTA, it is the total registered with the authorities.
Taxi companies have to maintain 10 to 15% of spare vehicles (in my estimate) to enable smooth operations. Some of these spare vehicles can be lay-off the road to save insurance costs but they are still counted as registered numbers.

Yielding at around 4% at this price with a strong balance sheet. CDG is well positioned.

Buradin, this special dividend is from the sale of its Alperton properties in London. You get 1.41 cents but the properties are gone from the company ledger forever.
Nevermind. There are still 34,000 vehicles to make up to its NAV.

Ah yes, the rental waivers in 2021 might explain why taxi revenue increased in 2022 despite a reduction in fleet size. Or it could be that the fleet size refers to physical fleet rather than leased out fleet. CDG might not do a full replacement for older taxis that reached end of life hence physical fleet size reduces while leased out fleet size grows.

U are right in the decline in taxi numbers. Hmm then the lower taxi revenue could be due to the rental waivers that was given by CDG last year on top of government reliefs.

According to LTA stats (https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltagov/who_we_are/statistics_and_publications/statistics/pdf/P2P_info_2022.pdf), CDG taxi fleet has declined from 7200 in Jan 21 to 6500 in Jun 22. I guess ride hail revenue is factored under its Taxi segment and supporting its growth? If so, the growth rate do ride hailing is interesting to watch.

Actually for the taxi segment, if we compare it with 2H 2021 instead of 1H 2021, there is an uptick of leasing. And taxi operating profit trended upwards also due to lower operating cost. But I agree that it is not exciting, more importantly not making losses. Also agree on the potential bright spots, especially the EV infra, CDG should stick it in and push for 50% of market share (very profitable). | ||||

Yes, I am satisfied though not yet elated at the dividend. Interim dividend (exclude special non-recurring dividend) of 2.85 cts is now 35% higher than 2.1 cts last year. Still some way off the pre-COVID interim dividend of 4.35 cts 😅
Hope to see some analysis of its growth in CDG Zip ride hail business as the traditional taxi business is still declining with fewer taxis leased and fewer taxi driving license holders. There is also concern on lower revenue from LTA for bus operations. The potential bright spot is China in 4Q22 when local / travel restrictions ought to ease. And when oil prices ease further. Plus growth in its EV charging infra business plus ride hailing business. Listing of Australia assets is another potential trigger.

Interim and Special Dividend For the half year ended 30 June 2022, there was a one-off exceptional gain of $30.5 million from the disposal of the Alperton property in London which resulted in net profit attributable to shareholders of $118.7 million. Excluding this exceptional gain, net profit was $88.2 million. As the Company is in a healthy net cash position with stable forecasted cashflows, it is proposed that the full net gain from that disposal be returned to shareholders in the form of a one-off special dividend. As such, the following dividends are proposed: - A tax-exempt one-tier interim dividend of 2.85 cents per ordinary share representing a Dividend Payout Ratio (&ldquo DPR&rdquo ) of 70.0% of the underlying net profit of $88.2 million for the half year just ended and - A tax-exempt one-tier special dividend of 1.41 cents per ordinary share representing a DPR of 100.0% of the net gain on disposal of Alperton property in London of $30.5 million. The proposed DPR for 1H2022 on underlying profits of 70% is consistent with the DPR for 2021 and is in line with our DPR policy which is to declare a DPR of at least 50%. PreCOVID, the interim DPR for 2019 was 67%.  |

The progress of internet is in the process of killing many traditional businesses which refuses to rejuvenate. The demand for land transport will drop to levels unsustainable for private bus/coach businesses in perhaps 5 years in my estimate.
The Ang Mo are smart to sell their small small bus/coach businesses and go into retirement while Zoom Bees buys as if it has picked up gold. Buying is easy, but to find another Zoom Bee to take over will not be possible without suffering big losses when Metaverse becomes the main stay of human life.
