Banyan Tree announces improved earnings in business update
Banyan Tree Holdings announced that its operating profit in3Q2022 rose 76% y-o-y while hotel revenue per available room (RevPAR) rose 36% y-o-y. Property sales for the first nine months of this year exceeded the pre-Covid period, the announcement says.
Hotels in Thailand and Maldives which the company owns recorded revenue growth of 150% y-o-y in 3Q2022. Hotel management fees rose 30% y-o-y. The company says China&rsquo s hotel operations rebounded and RevPAR rose by 23% y-o-y.
On investment sales, total sales value in 2022 is likely to exceed pre-Covid levels. This is supported by Phuket where 10-year residential visas are available for residential buyers. The company plans to launch the new Banyan Tree Phuket Private Residences in the current quarter.

Banyan Tree reverses H1 loss as travel resumption boosts revenue
RESORTS operator Banyan Tree Group : B58 0% on Tuesday (Aug 9) posted a S$514,000 net profit for H1 ended June, reversing the year-ago S$42.6 million loss, as the rising tide of travel lifted all its business segments.
H1 revenue more than doubled to S$118.6 million, with the hotel investments segment seeing a S$38.3 million rise in revenue to S$60.8 million as international borders reopened. Revenue for the group&rsquo s hotels in the Maldives rose by S$8.7 million from the previous year.
In the fee-based segment, revenue was S$4.8 million higher due to strong performance from Banyan Tree&rsquo s managed hotels in Mexico, as well as hotel recovery in Asia. But China is an exception, as the government&rsquo s sporadic lockdowns have hit business operations, the company said in its earnings.
Over in the property sales segment, revenue was S$19.1 million higher as 65 units were recognised &ndash as opposed to 11 in the year-ago period &ndash including from the Skypark 1 condominiums, which were substantially completed and handed over to buyers.
Excluding a one-off S$15.4 million gain on the expiry of derivatives for convertible bonds, Banyan Tree would have posted an S$11.1 million core operating profit for the 6-month period. This is in contrast to the S$4.8 million core operating loss a year ago, which excludes a fair value loss of S$10.4 million and write-down of S$1.2 million in property development costs.
In the next 12 months, Banyan Tree expects to open 14 new hotels and rebrand 2 hotels through conversion. Over the next 3 years, 50 new hotels are expected to open, in line with the company&rsquo s ambition to double its operating footprint.

Banyan Tree Holdings
On Apr 21, Banyan Tree Holdings : B58 +1.75% independent director Arnoud De Meyer acquired 100,000 shares of the company at an average price of 29.6 cents per share. This approximately doubled his deemed interest in the independent, multi-branded hospitality group from 0.01 per cent to 0.02 per cent.
De Meyer was appointed an independent director of Banyan Tree Holdings on Jan 28, 2021.
De Meyer is a global academic leader with more than 35 years of experience in top international academic institutions in Europe and Asia and until December 2018, he served as the president of the Singapore Management University.

Banyan Tree narrows net loss, gears up for ten hotels opening this coming yearLuxury resort operator has reported a 25% y-o-y drop in revenue to $56.5 million for 1HFY2021, as the pandemic continues to affect its business.However, its net loss has been reduced by 13% y-o-y to $42.6 million from $49.2 million, as the company cut costs, made gains from sale of properties. While the resort business remains difficult, the company notes some bright spots, such as its branded residences and extended stay segment. " Most markets with exception of Southeast Asia have gradually relaxed travel restrictions, resulting in uptick of fee-based segment including hotel management fees," says Banyan Tree. The company is keeping an eye on expansion, with two new properties opened in 1HFY2021: Dhawa Quzhou (China) and Angsana Corfu (Greece). It has also signed 13 hotel management agreements and two franchise agreements in 1H2021. This coming 12 months, there will be ten hotels opening in Indonesia, China, Qatar, Mozambique and Saudi Arabia. Over the next three years, 43 new properties are expected to open in line with the group' s ambition to double its operating footprint by 2025, the company says. As at 10.19am, Banyan Tree shares traded at 32 cents. |
