The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said there is early evidence to suggest Omicron has an ?increased risk of reinfection? and its rapid spread in South Africa suggests it has a ?growth advantage? compared to Delta.
Therefore, virologist Marc van Ranst pointed out that ?if the omicron variant is less pathogenic but with greater infectivity, allowing Omicron to replace Delta, this would be very positive.? In fact, Omicron could turn out to be ?a storm in a teacup? and may blow over within a few weeks, according to a former head of the British government?s vaccine task force |

MONDAY 06 DECEMBER 2021 5:55 AM Covid silver lining: ?Extremely mild? Omicron variant is rapidly killing off much more deadly Delta coronavirus mutation BY:MICHIEL WILLEMS Excitement is growing among Coronavirus experts in Southern Africa and around the world as it increasingly seems that the new Omicron variant is rapidly replacing the much more deadly Delta mutation. Experts are so ecstatic because it seems more and more that the Omicron variant is much more contagious and dominant than Delta, but also much milder and less deadly. Some experts are therefore even urging countries to drop restrictions and let Omicron spread so the more infectious but less severe variant can kill off Delta quicker. Delta displacement in full swing Infections in South Africa have started to rise rapidly in recent days, a sign that displacement of the lethal Delta variant is in full swing, according to Adrian Puren, the acting executive director of South Africa?s National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD). ?What will outcompete Delta? That has always been the question, in terms of transmissibility at least, ? perhaps this particular variant is the variant,? Puren told Reuters in an interview earlier this week. Clive Dix said that, if the new variant did turn out to be milder but more infectious than Delta, it would be worth easing travel restrictions so to let the milder Omicron mutation spread further. He told UK newspaper i he is ?pretty calm and not really worried? about the new variant, adding that ?if we look at all the facts that we know so far, none of them are heading in the direction of being a super concern.? ?We?re not seeing serious disease yet and we?re not seeing death. The picture looks like it?s now a milder virus ? and that?s what you expect with viruses. They mutate to become more transmissible ? they?re not looking to be deadly, because otherwise they don?t get transmitted,? Dix explained. |

SCM can just sold away this Norwegian company with contracts and take back cash to rescue own business instead of asking money from temasek and public. In the past, when scm was profitable, how you want to invest, it is own management decision for own prospect. When you are losing money and begging public and temasek for money, your priority is stop bleeding and breakeven. The lifeline of 960mio is not infinite number, it is reducing day by day if doing nothing!

You just simply don't understand what is happening to the world and why fuel cell cars are basically forgotten and abandoned globally when whole world car makers are moving to electric car (battery car) biscuits. The green ammonia concept is to support fuel cell which is hydrogen car. When there is no demand for fuel cell car, what is the point to build green ammonia refinery facilities including the vessels. The technology just consume more energy instead of reserve more energy. Battery are key for the green energy evolution which green energy are mostly intermediate load instead of constant load, battery which acts as a storage capacitance to store a and make it as constant load. Or else, why TESLA is chiong to sky when they set up factory in China, because in USA, they were stopped by hydro carbon MNC, but when move to China who is world no.1 green energy generation country. Their electric car and battery technology let whole world to know that combination of battery and green energy are best solution for dealing with climate change. The whole process of green ammonia is a joke which demand high energy consumption for running the facilities and plant. Batteries just store the green energy directly and emit the energy directly with less waste of efficiency. Those who still working on fuel cells are against the technology evolution trend and burn cash without solution only. The first to resolve climate change is to create more green energy production instead of increase energy consumption. Fuel cell already destined to fail!!!!

We really have to forgive this guy. Poor thing, trapped in the Metaverse technological world 20 years ago and cannot get out. For the record, the fuel tanker is not only transporting green ammonia but fuelled by green ammonia as well.   Sembmarine unit LMG Marin wins contract to design world' s first zero-emission fuel tankerSembcorp Marine s (Sembmarine) wholly-owned subsidiary LMG Marin has clinched a contract to design the worlds first green ammonia-fuelled tanker for Grieg Edge, the innovation unit of Norway' s Grieg Maritime Group.

Ammonia is not a form of energy. It is a transition liquid for easy transportation only. The Fuel cell is referring to the hydrogen. So hydrogen is form of energy for reaction with oxygen to produce water and electricity. That' s why China development is a model of future. If whole world go for green with hydro power, solar, wind, tide, thermal, nuclear and etc without fossil fuel to produce carbon dioxide and other gases, high speed rail which can be running 600km/h (under testing) will be the transportation country to country.  The key mineral resources will be moved from Fossil Fuels to material to make batteries and fast charging facilities. Fuel Cell VS Battery, the battle of these 2 green energy storage solutions already started decades. Ammonia is just 1 form of solution of energy conversion and storage for transportation purpose only, you cannot fly the planes with Amonnia. it still has to go through a stage to convert from Ammonia to hydrogen. The parties developing and evolving the batteries are much more than fuel cell now.

Green ammonia is a form of energy.  Battery is a container to store electrical energy.  Think about it. There is a reason why no one talks about having our commercial planes fly on battery. All commercial planes still fly on oil.  Anyway, SCM don' t research on energy. They make ships that run on whatever energy that market wants. The key points are SCM is technological ready to market needs.

https://www.freethink.com/environment/floating-wind-farm For those who think that SCM is sunset industry,  " The further from land you are, the stronger the winds blow &mdash the most powerful winds can be found over the deep, open ocean. Traditional wind turbines, even offshore turbines on the coast, can&rsquo t tap into this energy. However, floating wind turbines can &mdash and they could be the next big thing in the green energy revolution. What it is: Conventional offshore wind farms are located just barely off the coast. They sit on metal or concrete towers that must be drilled into the seabed, that&rsquo s why they&rsquo re called &ldquo fix bottom turbines.&rdquo They rarely go deeper than a few hundred feet into the ocean, which isn&rsquo t that far from shore. However, floating wind turbines can be placed in the deep ocean because, well, they float. Or rather, they sit atop platforms that float. The platforms are tethered to the ocean floor so that the turbines don&rsquo t drift too much and they can be assembled on land and then towed to their destination. This setup allows the turbine to operate on the open ocean, where there&rsquo s strong wind. Strong winds make the turbines spin faster, which means more power. The power is then transferred to land via undersea cables. These floating turbines are an engineering wonder: in rough waters, the platforms must balance turbines 800 feet tall that have wingspans longer than large commercial jets.  This all sounds pretty simple, but these floating turbines are an engineering wonder: in rough waters, the platforms must balance 800 feet tall turbines that have wingspans longer than large commercial jets.  Why it matters: If the world has a shot at reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, it&rsquo s estimated that we&rsquo ll need around 150 gigawatts of additional offshore wind energy capacity &mdash that&rsquo s 25 times more capacity than we have today, according to the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation.  Placing floating wind farms in the deep ocean could help us reach our goal &mdash the open ocean has stronger, more consistent winds because there&rsquo s nothing like hills, cliffs, or buildings that will slow it down.  Current projects: The very first large-scale floating wind farm opened in 2017 with the Hywind Scotland project. Today, there&rsquo s several floating wind farms in existence and many more projects are being designed. The world&rsquo s largest floating wind farm, the Kincardine, just became operational in October and is now delivering energy to Scotland. It&rsquo s expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 50,000 homes a year.  The Norwegian oil company Equinor &mdash ironically, oil companies are the best at building deep sea platforms &mdash has plans to build a wind farm on South Korean waters, and Japan expects to start construction on one next year. &ldquo In places like Korea, Taiwan, Japan and California, you can only manage a moderate amount of conventional offshore wind, or maybe even none at all, so floating turbines are the only option in the longer term.&rdquo HENRIK STEISDAL, A DANISH INVENTOR &ldquo Several countries have big offshore areas close to their population centres, but at depths that are simply too large for bottom-fixed turbines,&rdquo Henrik Steisdal, a Danish inventor working in floating wind innovation, told the BBC.  &ldquo In places like Korea, Taiwan, Japan and California, you can only manage a moderate amount of conventional offshore wind, or maybe even none at all, so floating turbines are the only option in the longer term.&rdquo The Golden State: On a national scale, the Biden administration wants to have 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy operating by 2030. That&rsquo s an ambitious goal considering that we currently have just 42 megawatts of offshore wind energy in the US today.  And California is stepping up to help achieve this goal.  The state has recently announced plans to dedicate parts of the West Coast to offshore floating wind farms &mdash in Morro Bay and near the Oregon state line. The goal is to build enough floating turbines to have the capacity to produce 4.6 gigawatts of electricity by 2030.  That&rsquo s more than 100 times the current national output. Northern California has very strong offshore winds &mdash that, coupled with the fact that droughts and fires, and the shutting down of the state&rsquo s nuclear plants, have put enormous pressure on the state&rsquo s energy grid &mdash makes floating wind farms an attractive option.  Challenges: Like any new technology, cost is a big challenge &mdash right now, floating wind technology costs much more than fix-bottom technologies.  Currently, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory doesn&rsquo t expect floating technology to become price competitive until 2032.  However, others say the technology is developing quickly and that, once developed, it&rsquo s a simple plug-and-play scenario, because a platform design can be used along hundreds of miles of coastline and not require much customization.   California&rsquo s goal is to build enough floating turbines to have the capacity to produce 4.6 gigawatts of electricity by 2030.  That&rsquo s more than 100 times the current national output. &ldquo You can literally have one design of a support structure that will be the same for California, Oregon, and Washington,&rdquo Alla Weinstein, founder of Trident Winds, an offshore wind technology company, told The Atlantic.  &ldquo And maybe even Alaska.&rdquo Another challenge is, ironically, environmental. In order for wind farms to generate profit, they need to be large this means they require a lot of ocean space. Fisheries and whale migration routes may be affected by these farms, and any intrusion of wildlife habitats carries some risk to marine life.  As The Atlantic reports, wind farms slated for development off the coast of Rhode Island and Massachusetts overlap with the habitat of the North Atlantic right whale, an endangered species.  The U.S. recently approved its first big offshore wind farm &mdash the Vineyard Wind project &mdash to be built 35 miles from mainland Massachusetts. However, getting this approved was fraught with issues raised from local commercial fishermen, who feared the machinery would disrupt their livelihood. While many commercial fishermen recognize that wind power is a powerful tool in fighting climate change, they&rsquo re concerned that the tradeoffs &mdash depletion of fisheries &mdash aren&rsquo t being recognized.  " |

Alamak, where are you when Sembmarine started building battery operated ferries for Norled in 2019? In any case, battery works for cars and near shore ferries and tug boats where battery capacity required in much smaller compared to tankers and container ships and you can build charging stations at or near shore. Also, using battery does not translate immediately to " zero emmission" if the battery is being charged by fossil fuels. It is considered zero emmission only when charged by green energy and hydrogen and ammonia are media to transport green energy to the generators to produce green energy to charge the battery, then it is zero emmission. But then again, CE123 probably knows more than  the collective wisdom of all the maritime experts and engineers.   Sembmarine bags battery powered ferry newbuilds contract from Norled
![]() Singapore shipyard group Sembcorp Marine (Sembmarine) has bagged a contract from Norled to design and build three battery-powered ro-pax ferries.
Marcus Hand  | Oct 29, 2018 The 300-passenger, 80 car capacity ferries will be designed by Sembmarine subsidiary LMG Marin and built by the yard group for delivery to Norled in Q4 2021 The plug-in ferries will be designed to operate on zero emissions battery power at a speed of 10 knots, with a hybrid battery/diesel mode as back-up. The vessels will use lithium-ion batteries. Sembcorp Marine&rsquo s project with Norled marks our entry into the ro-pax ferry design and construction segment,&rdquo said Sembmarine&rsquo s Head of Specialised Shipbuilding Tan Heng Jack said. &ldquo It also demonstrates our ambition to be a leading provider of renewable energy-driven solutions.

The key of a product to push to the market is it must be economical and commercial. China is aggressive buying the minerals required for battery and US is keep making noise China is doing so. I can foresee, future resources to be fight for will be from oil & gas to mineral resources for making battery. Just imagine a power bank charger which capacity is like a vessel, which electricity can be fully charge by 1 day and move to another island or electricity from solar and wind to be stored in a battery and to be used during night time. and non wind time, it can be transported through super high voltage by using cables or battery vessels.
As compared to the fuel cells, which need pumps facility to transfer fresh water which has to be 100% clean (earth also face drinking water problem) or have to flush away the residual produced during electrolysis, nitrogen need to be purify with energy, air compression need energy, ammonia conversion need energy, to cool it down for easy transportation need energy. It is really a disaster technology.
