If you believe in SCM and I saw in POEMS, the analyst has got a target price of 8.9cts for it, which is a premium over the current price of 8.5cts, then go ahead and buy it or keep yr share dun sell. But if you no longer have confident in this counter and think your money can be better invest in another counter, then sell it and use the money otherwise, there is no need to talk bad about the counter too, as many here are strong believer and supporter in this counter and it may start a WAR here. That is my take. I just sold all my holding and reinvested in another counter, having kept SCM for over few months and see ni improvement so far, but yes it may start to move after I sold.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Borrowing shares to sell is definitely not considered a short sell from the regulator' s point of view. It is a private arrangement/ contract between 3 parties that MAS or regulators do not have any right to interfere. For example, say Vanguard bought 100 million SCM shares and parked it with DBS Nominees Pte Ltd. Vanguard agreed to loan their shares to BOA (Bank of America) for a consideration of 5% p.a. (daily interest). BOA then sold the SCM shares on the open market. To MAS, SCM' s shares owned by Vanguard have been sold. The share borrowing arrangement is a private contract between Vanguard, DBS Nominees and BOA. Just like in trading futures, BOA will to put in cash as a margin so that DBSN can buy back the SCM shares to repay Vanguard anytime. If SCM' s share price rises, DBS Nominees will ask BOA to topup more cash if BOA does not want to buy back the SCM shares yet. If BOA is unable to do so, DBS Nominees will use the existing cash in BOA' s margin account to buy back SCM shares to repay Vanguard so that they would not incur any loss. My estimation of the 1-2 billion short position is based on my observation of the market action over the past 5 months. How it works is that most institutional funds and family offices hold their shares with brokers or nominees firms. Apart from Startree, the top 15 shareholders are all brokers or nominee firms. They are not actually direct sharehodlers but are instead holding shares on behalf of institutional funds and family offices. A Shortist or consortium of shortists like Goldman Sach, JP Morgan, BOA etc would approach these brokers to borrow share scripts from them to sell and pay them an interest say 5% p.a. To MAS and the regulators, these are genuine sellers of shares.  Unlike naked short sellers who have to buy back their shorted shares in 3 days or so, the Shortist who borrowed scripts from brokers to sell can hold their short position for years if they wanted to. The risk to the shortist is if the share price surges unexpectedly, the broker may ask the Shortist to topup their margin or force buy back the position. However, that seldom happen as the Shortist are wall street sharks with the US printing press behind them unless there is a corporate buyout like in the case of SPH.  For this counter, the Shortist will likely not stay too long as Temasek already own 55% of SCM. A big chunk is owned by other institutions and higher net worth individuals. As the amount of shares owned by small retail dwindles, it will be harder and harder for them to play their game. The shortist is actively sponsoring articles on Upstream and other media outlets to dissuade new investors from investing in SCM so they could close their short position profitably. Let' s see how things work out in the next few months

How it works is that most institutional funds and family offices hold their shares with brokers or nominees firms. Apart from Startree, the top 15 shareholders are all brokers or nominee firms. They are not actually direct sharehodlers but are instead holding shares on behalf of institutional funds and family offices. A Shortist or consortium of shortists like Goldman Sach, JP Morgan, BOA etc would approach these brokers to borrow share scripts from them to sell and pay them an interest say 5% p.a. To MAS and the regulators, these are genuine sellers of shares.  Unlike naked short sellers who have to buy back their shorted shares in 3 days or so, the Shortist who borrowed scripts from brokers to sell can hold their short position for years if they wanted to. The risk to the shortist is if the share price surges unexpectedly, the broker may ask the Shortist to topup their margin or force buy back the position. However, that seldom happen as the Shortist are wall street sharks with the US printing press behind them unless there is a corporate buyout like in the case of SPH.  For this counter, the Shortist will likely not stay too long as Temasek already own 55% of SCM. A big chunk is owned by other institutions and higher net worth individuals. As the amount of shares owned by small retail dwindles, it will be harder and harder for them to play their game. The shortist is actively sponsoring articles on Upstream and other media outlets to dissuade new investors from investing in SCM so they could close their short position profitably. If this is true, then it confirmed that Shortists do not believe the price will fall below 8, that explained the buyback which implies sunny days ahead. Actually I think the big boys in Wall Street smells blood and have been subtly accumulating over the last 2 weeks. Say whatever you like, this share is already nuclear-bomb out.
