Japanese media NEWS reports.
Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) plans to discharge a total of approximately 54,600 tons of "nuclear sewage" in 2024. In addition, the removal of molten nuclear fuel clumps from Unit 2 of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant will be postponed until around October 2024.

With the massive quake and tsunami that struck Japan last week, the specter of another devastating event has returned: The 1923 Kanto earthquake, which shook the region around Tokyo, was the country's last "big one." The 7.9-magnitude quake reduced much of Tokyo to rubble, and as refugees tried to leave, firestorms swept through the city. More than 100,000 people died during the Kanto quake and its aftermath. These archival images, drawn from the U.S. Geological Survey, AP, and Brown University's Dana and Vera Reynolds Collection, show the horrifying wreckage. They're a reminder that Japan has faced brutally difficult rebuilding efforts before, and succeeded in building back better. Team, from South Africa, Germany, and Spain, is hopeful that innovation may help build secure networks of the future: if key data isn't transmitted, it can't be stolen.
"Traditionally, two communicating parties physically send the information from one to the other, even in the quantum realm," says physicist Andrew Forbes, from the University of the Witwatersrand. "Now, it is possible to teleport information so that it never physically travels across the connection ? a Star Trek technology made real." |

https://www.sciencealert.com/earth-has-received-a-message-laser-beamed-from-10-million-miles-away
☆ ☆ ☆ 》 》 》 We all rely on similar tech built into optical fibers for our ground-based, high-speed communications, but here it's been adapted for use through deep space to improve on existing methods of getting information back to Earth. Being infrared light, engineers can easily transmit its waves in laser form. This won't get the light moving any faster, but it does tidy and constrain its beam to a narrow channel. This requires far less power than a scatter of radio waves and is harder to intercept.

NASA's Parker Solar Probe has continually smashed its own speed records
😁 😁 😆 😅 🤣 😂 🤩 In 2018, soon after its launch, probe became the fastest human-made object ever built, and by 2024 it will reach a whopping 430,000 miles per hour at such a speed, one could travel from San Francisco to Washington, D.C., in 20 seconds. The spacecraft recently reached 394,736 mph. |

Molecules are much harder to tame than atoms, though. But come 2019 scientists had found a way to wrangle them into shared quantum states too.
From there, scientists predicted that if molecules cohere or stick together when lured into the same quantum state, there could be a whole new kind of chemistry inside the quantum landscape.
"What we saw lined up with the theoretical predictions," says Cheng Chin, a physicist at the University of Chicago and senior author of the study. "This has been a scientific goal for 20 years, so it's a very exciting era."
All particles, atoms, and molecules buzz with heat energy, vibrating within the confines of their atomic structure or jostling alongside other molecules in a substance. Cooling particles down to ultracold temperatures coaxes them into a less chaotic state pinning them in an optical trap also confines their motion.
Decades ago, scientists showed that as temperatures dropped to near absolute zero, particles even began to mesh together into conglomerates with a shared quantum identity their individual properties washed out by strange collective behaviors that began to dominate.

New Horizons is about to leave the solar system. Only four spacecraft have ever done that before.
Here's What We Know Outside our star system, the space probe will be able to take pictures of the universe without light. New Horizons has reached the edge of the solar system and has already transmitted several photos to scientists. Thanks to the spacecraft, researchers have learnt that the sky at the edge of the system is not as dark as previously thought. The light turned out to be twice as intense as scientists had calculated by analysing the light of galaxies that are located in the direction of the survey. Moreover, New Horizons took the photo in the darkest side of the Milky Way to minimise the background glow.
