Abu Dhabi's Int'l Petroleum Investment Coy is demanding US$6.5B from the M'sian state fund.
The arbitration since then, Abu Dhabi's state-owned entities have withdrawn their involvement planned on real estate projects in M'sia, a financial hub in the Iskandar region in Johor, 1MDB-led Tun Razak Exch in the capital city of KL. Malaysia long relied on foreign investment to drive its economy and push to attract capital from Middle East began under former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who succeeded Dr M in late 2003. At the time, oil-rich Middle East countries were shunning West and M'sia emerged as a natural fit b'cos its Muslim credentials and stable politics. More than a decade later, results from this push to attract Arab capital are mixed. Malaysia's banking sector has benefited from the presence of three Middle Eastern financial institutions that have set up base in the country. But larger ventures have not worked out so well. For eg: M'sian govt wanted Middle Eastern investors to take the lead in developing the Iskandar region, Johor, particularly in Medini, a 930ha mixed-use development, feature a financial district envisioned as a hub for global Islamic finance. The project attracted big names such as Kuwait Finance House, Abu Dhabi's state-owned Mubadala Development Group and Aldar Properties, another real estate developer in Abu Dhabi. But Arab involvement in Medini quickly fizzled out after the 2008 global financial crisis and the investments were subsequently taken over by private Malaysian interests. Other big-ticket Arab-led projects in Malaysia that have been quietly axed in recent years include plans by Abu Dhabi business groups to invest in a US$7 billion oil storage facility in Johor, and a US$4.2 billion aluminium smelter project in Sarawak. Abu Dhabi investors have also pulled out from 1MDB's multibillion-dollar Tun Razak Exchange real estate development on the fringes of Kuala Lumpur. |

Surprise decision make Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) to pull out from a multibillion-dollar petrochemical project in Johor with state-owned Petronas.
It has exposed cracks in Muslim Malaysia's decade-old push to attract capital from the Middle East. Early international news reports that Saudi Aramco had decided to withdraw from the US$27 billion (S$38 billion) refinery and petrochemical joint-venture development in Pengerang, Johor. There is doubt on oil industry that, which is central to Malaysia's plans to rival Singapore. Saudi Aramco's surprise decision to axe its Malaysian plans has added to a growing list of troubles Malaysia is facing with investors from the Middle East, who are also facing financial problems. In recent mths. Abu Dhabi, which has long ranked as the Arab world's most aggressive investor in Malaysia, have also hit the skids over a dispute stemming from the financial debacle at state-owned 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). |

Pay back time...for Dr M Mohamad has been snubbed by the country' s Malay Rulers in the upcoming inauguration of the new King, amid his increasingly bitter feud with incumbent PM Najib Razak. The Conference of Rulers to Dr Mahathir Mohamad to attend the installation of the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 13 at the Istana Negara in KL has been withdrawn, Malaysiakini reported on Thursday (Dec 8), citing his aide. PM needs President' s approval? Means need to use reserve? Asked about the High Speed Rail, Najib said everything was well and good, adding that it was expected to be signed next week. " Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has contacted me asking for more time as they needed the consent of their president who is away," he said, calling this a technical matter. - See more at: http://news.asiaone.com/news/business/mega-projects-boost-malaysias-economy-640-billion#sthash.7flc7D7M.dpuf |

Prospect of 500,000 new homes has sent property prices crashing. The sheer number of units available is more than the private property homes Singapore has ever built.
Who will be the buyers?👲 . 😃 China chinese will only flood million of China chinese into JB.😆 The value of residential sales in Johor Bahru fell by 30 percent last year, with some developers offering discounts of 20 percent or more. A two-bedroom apartment cost as little as 1.25 million yuan (S$258,000), about one-fifth of the price of a similar-sized private apartment in central Singapore. |

The Iskandar Malaysia zone around Johor Bahru has got some 60 ongoing development projects. Forest City is one of the biggest.
The development of the Iskandar zone began in 2006, when Malaysia decided to leverage Singapore?s success and unveiled a 20-year plan. Construction is definitely outpacing demand, as it is projected that current developments can cater to demand for the next 10 years even if they stopped building now. It is also uncertain who will take up all the available units, especially if prices are volatile and might collapse given that the cost of land in Malaysia is so cheap and with no curtailment of its expansion. Malaysia were Beijing&rsquo s bid to counter US influence, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the country consistently pursued the policy of being a good and friendly neighbour.  &ldquo And its foreign policy is not targeted at any third-party country,&rdquo she told a regular news briefing. Najib also said Malaysia welcomed the China-backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank which marks a turning point &ldquo of peaceful dialogue, not foreign intervention, in sovereign states&rdquo . Global institutions needed to be inclusive of &ldquo countries that were given no say in the legal and security infrastructure that was set up by the victors of the Second World War&rdquo . |

Dr M targeted Pak Lah for refusing to keep Anwar jailedThe Malay Mail Online  -  November 1, 2016

Wong quoted Umno ' insiders' as saying the decision not to interfere in Anwar&rsquo s case was the true reason why Dr M had sought to remove the man he handpicked as his successor.
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 &mdash Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad initiated his campaign against Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi over the latter&rsquo s refusal to intervene in the judiciary&rsquo s decision to release Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from prison, according to the fifth prime minister&rsquo s biography. In his campaign against Abdullah. &ldquo What really incensed Mahathir was Abdullah&rsquo s decision not to intervene in the Federal Court&rsquo s decision to quash the sodomy conviction against Anwar. Had Abdullah set Mahathir&rsquo s nemesis free to haunt him?&rdquo read the biography  Being Abdullah Ahmad Badawi  &mdash   The Authorised Biography  released yesterday. &ldquo Umno insiders say. Abdullah&rsquo s refusal to intervene in the judicial process to stop the release of Anwar was the real reason why Mahathir decided that Abdullah had to be removed.&rdquo Dr Mahathir began attacking Abdullah&rsquo s administration in 2006 and at one point quit Umno, insisting that he would not return to the party as long as Abdullah remained PM and Umno president. &ldquo By launching his fierce attacks against Abdullah a year before the country&rsquo s 50th year of independence, (Mahathir) ensured that Abdullah would not be able to bask in the glow of nationhood and prosperity and ride on this feel good factor to call a general election and secure a second term,&rdquo the author said. Abdullah eventually resigned in 2009 after orchestrared by Dr Mahathir and by Muhyiddin, n V.P other Umno leaders. Dr Mahathir sacked Anwar as his deputy in 1998 and accused the latter of sodomy and corruption. |
