Two individuals related to Seatrium charged with corruption offences involving bribes in Brazil (BT- March 28) TWO individuals related to Seatrium, formerly Sembcorp Marine, have been charged with corruption offences involving the payment of bribes for the benefit of persons in Brazil. The public prosecutor is also in discussions with Seatrium on a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) that will require the company to pay a financial penalty for the alleged corruption offences, said the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) and the Attorney-General&rsquo s Chambers (AGC) in a joint statement on Thursday (Mar 28). The two individuals charged are Wong Weng Sun &ndash who was president, executive director and chief executive of Seatrium, and managing director of subsidiary Jurong Shipyard at the time of the alleged offences and Lee Fook Kang &ndash senior general manager of Jurong Shipyard at the time of the alleged offences. Wong and Lee each faces five charges of conspiring to corruptly give gratification to Guilherme Esteves de Jesus (GDJ), a former consultant with Seatrium, for the benefit of persons in Brazil, to advance the business interests of the company&rsquo s subsidiaries in Brazil.
Wong has also been charged with obstruction of justice. He allegedly instructed two employees of Seatrium in 2014 to remove an email sent by GDJ containing evidence of bribes that GDJ had given or would be giving to other persons. Dyodd. Not vested. |

Since when Wong Weng San bben appointed CEO of Seatrium? At most he is only a consultant in the current setup. He case will not affect the running of the organization. Anyway, he is not a good CEO.

" 26 Feb 2024 news The investigation is part of the wider effort which has become known as " Operacao Lava Jato" (Operation Car Wash) in Brazil. It has been described as one of Brazil' s largest corruption scandals involving a broad range of politicians and companies. Guilherme Esteves de Jesus who acted as a business consultant to the then president of Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz was indicted in 2020 on charges of money laundering, found guilty, and sentenced to 19 years in jail. The former president of Sembcorp Marine& rsquo s Brazilian subsidiary, Martin Cheah Kok Choon was also indicted in 2020 on charges of money laundering and corruption. He had been terminated from the company in 2015 but in December 2023 along with another former executive was acquitted. Under the terms of the in-principle settlement agreements, Seatruim will pay approximately US$135 million after cooperating with the investigations. The final amount is contingent on the approval by the authorities in Brazil and ratification of the agreement. The company will also agree to certain post-closing compliance obligations. " Upon the formal signing of the leniency agreements, the company does not expect there to be any further grounds for liability to the Brazilian Authorities," the company writes in its stock exchange filing. " According to Brazilian legislation, the execution of the leniency agreements shall guarantee that the company may participate in future public bidding processes and execute contracts in Brazil."
