You should be worrying about how Grab is going to profit from its already high rental rates and commission based car rental model.. is rental rate going to increase to become profitable?

If they want to rent, they can choose from many rental companies. They can also use hourly rental cars like Triibe to do the jpbs. But taxis cannot be bought and owned by taxi drivers so they have no choice but to rent. If you still want to compare, ok, we take Toyota Pirus which is ommon to both. CDG Taxis was $125, Grab $70. Taxis are on 7 year COE on a pro-rated rate. The 8th year is subject to application and approval. For the Pirus at $125 a day, two years is $91,250. Taxi companies buy taxis by the thousands with delivery spanned over many years hence the price can be very cheap, probably 30% lower than what we pay. Once the 2 years is up, the rest of the 5 year will be pure profits. And there is no problem paying for those items you mention. Dont forget also that all taxi companies maintain and repair their cats themselves and keep their costs very low by their own ways. Accident claims is also a big revenue because of this. If the commerciL insirNce companies and car workshop can make money, CDG with thoudands of taxi can make mote. Then, dont forget taxi body afvertisments, fuel sale, etc. This is why I said taxi is a very lucrative bisiness in Singapore.

And the taxi stands that I need to take cabs have lots of cabs such as Lucky Plaza, Taka, MBS, Gardens by the Bay. Most of the time, I take MRT during off-peak hours. Even before Uber / Grab came in, if you try to book CDG in a raining morning, you need 3 phones calling at the same time and yet you cant get a CDG taxi. Uber / Grab came in and solved this problem instantly. Thereafter, as CDG taxis numbers dropped from 18,000+ to 8,000+, it is even more difficult to book one at busy time. This gives Grab more opportunity to capture ground. And when riders get addi ted to booking Grab, they book Grab infront of a long queue of taxis. This caused taxis to shrink even smaller. Because it was night time and there are more taxis in a HDB area (because they brought pax back from town and became available, you got one cheap cheap. But Grab was surging because many others were booking Grab because they have become Grab's loyal customers. If that taxi didnt get your job, it will have to run back to town to queue at the taxi stands. If you dont believe me, go and o serve the CTE at night. You will find plenty of vacant taxis speeding down from the north and enter Orchard. The pre-requisite of booking business is critical mass of riders and drivers. CDG has lost both. You can go to any taxi stand and count the number of CDG taxis queuing and you will understand
