At the end of the day, understanding is one thing, but the rest is still base on the honesty and integrity of the management. If they choose to cover up, there is nothing auditor can do. Auditor just do the auditing with whatever data the management provide. So balance sheet is at the end of the day, just a balnce sheet, nothing more or less.
