The only difference is that people are wearing masks. Many coffee shops and hawker centres have more than 5 persons gathering drinking/eating after 10pm. Life is back to normal to these folks.

That was why Grab was willing to burn money to reward both parties to use it. Now that it has achieved that critical mass, the rewards have pratically stopped. And a new platform fee was immediately announced when CCCS said it can do whatever it wants 3 days ago. 30 cents looks small but given its high volumn and it is 100% to Grab, it is a big amount. And that is only to test water untill the fare increase after 6 months. The increases will be gradual, like boiling frogs. Riders will have no choice but to pay because most drivers will want to use it because of the high fares. Grab's critical mass will grow vis a vis other apps despite its higher prices. It will turn profitable after crossing a certain level of fares pricing. How much more it wants to would depend on how it charge the drivers and riders. PHV's challenge against taxis is not technology as many thought. It is a challenge of business model, ie, mobilising the potential of every private car at no cost to itself to fight a business which rent out taxis at high prices. Because of its loss of clientele, you dont find riders flagging for taxis at curbsides anymore, and you dont see many taxis plying the streets now. You want taxis? Walk to the nearest taxi stand. Yet there is no guarantee that you will get a taxi immediately

Is CDG wising up to the competition and fighting back? Yes, it is. Is it a confirmed losing game for CDG? I think not. There are many ways to change the business model and leverage on CDG assets / marketing to bring the battle to platform operators. Dangerous to extrapolate past Grab ride hail success to future performance - this is not how business works. Dynamics change when management seizes technological or social or regulatory opportunities. All being said, do not presume that CDG is a single trick pony whose development is dictated by taxi sector alone. That is a very narrow view. CDG is a global public transport company, not a Singapore taxi company. Bottomline is look at its revenue growth over the years - collapsing because of taxi? Far from it. No need to predict doomsday for CDG.

One of them is a newly joined guy spoted by my friend eating alone and dragged to join us. He was a Comfort taxi driver until 3 years ago when he resigned and became a cleaning supervisor working a in a condo under employment of a contractor. He said CDG had been calling gim to ask him to rejoin. So you see, CDG will not give up its taxi business. Pandemic so no choice? Running down fleet? Only 13% of total revenue? These are all excuses for potential, possible, and probable failure. Good tries, but not acceptable. Taxi was CDG' pride. It was the World's biggest Taxi Company. Compared to bus and train, which are the so-called CORE BUSINESS surviving on government's relief all the time, taxi is the only one business growable. Drinking continues!
